Shawn Tubbs Mr Shawn … Thanks for the comment! You’re videos are incredibly inspiring … Transcribing what you’re playing in them has been really fun and a great source of new ideas. Always look forward to watching what you post next. But could you maybe play at a little slower tempo … it’s really difficult to work that stuff up to speed. :)
I just discovered Shawn Tubbs today on a different video, and I've gotta say he's very impressive. So musical, so unique. Listening to him I can't help but hear influences of a couple of my all time favorites, Steve Morse and Jeff Beck. This lick in particular sounds a lot like there's some Dixie Dregs in there. You've nailed it and thanks for the breakdown and giving props to this great guitarist. Carrie Underwood is blessed to have found him.
It's not only these kinds of lessons that will forever set you apart from everyone but your ability to recognize talent to teach from, like ST...shows that you have good insight. Your style of teaching is so very, very smart...and I'm glad you don't so dumb down how you go about it. You clearly have a good sense of your target audience. I'm not a big theory guy but you make it "sensible" when you talk about how to think about what you're doing. Oh yeah, and you play like a freaking monster! Thank you...will share because you do.
+Brian Tong Thanks so much Brian for your kind words! It only took us 8 months to respond to your comment ... but that's only because we let such kind words go to our heads and we developed a pretty large ego where we thought we were better then everyone else. ha! Just kidding ... just been super busy around here for quite some time. But really thank you for your comment. So glad you enjoyed our lesson and that you like our teaching style. We do try and straddle the line of teaching everyone from beginner to advanced ... but we never want to "dumb" it down. We just think that even if someone is at a less advanced place in their development ... that doesn't mean that they should feel like they can only handle learning simple cheezy stale pentatonic licks. We try and breakDown some of the more complex stuff in easy to digest ways so that everyone from beginner to advanced can get something fun from it. And I really appreciate your generous comments in regards to my playing. I'm just like everyone else ... trying to improve everyday ... and hating how much I suck all the time (that's a disease most guitar players struggle with). I have good days and i have bad days ... but the journey is so incredibly fun! Hope you stick around cuz we have a ton more Shawn Tubbs lessons coming and a bunch of other things that i'm sure you'll dig!
+Mark Young Thanks so much Mark! I'm going to show your comment to some of my high school teachers ... they never offered the "genius" word to me ... and it always made me sad! Ha! But seriously ... glad you enjoyed the lesson. Hope you stick around cuz we agree ... Shawn Tubbs is a crazy good player and we have lots more lessons on his stuff coming!
+Herber Lugo Thanks so much for the Sub! Glad you enjoyed the lesson ... hope you stick around we have a bunch more shawn tubbs stuff we've transcribed and we're doing lessons on in the coming weeks!
Please do more of these! I've been replaying Shawn Tubbs constantly. The guy is outstanding and like phrasing is mesmerizing! PLEASE PLEASE DO MORE VIDEOS!
+david bakker Yeah ... Shawn is one of our favorite players as well!!! And because you said PLEASE (in all caps and twice) ... we will indeed acquiesce to your request and do many more lessons on his playing. :)
+Shawn Tubbs Thanks Shawn ... for the kind words and especially for the inspiration you give us all! (this is what is called a super delayed response ... only took 7 months) Ha!
Brother, you're one of the most amazing guitar players I've ever heard... First time I heard you play was your demo of the signature Bob Burt AH Gre8t Distortion. I just about freaked out! Oh, and bought the pedal..... You're a monster. Through and through. Always a thrill to watch you play...
You are awesome Tony! Thanks so much for the kind words! You are too generous with your praise ... but I'll take it and enjoy every word of it! And glad you dig the bob burt pedal ... it is pretty great!
Guitar Breakdown You're very welcome.. And brother, you are all of that, and more! I've met almost every stellar player on record, and the better they were, the more humble they were... And you just proved that point. Thank you for your response. Your very kind response... And just keep on playing, I love every minute of it!
***** Thanks so much for watching. Yeah ... there's so many talented players out there ... we stumble on new artists almost daily. It's hard to Transcribe everything we want to ... not enough time in the day. If there are any players you know of that we haven't done videos on ... feel free to let us know. We're always up for being introduced to new Guitarists! Thanks again for the support!
Chris Kohler Ha! I don’t know how “cool” i am … but I’ll take it! Thanks so much for the kind words! Yeah, Shawn plays some AMAZING stuff. He’s such a great player. I’m addicted to transcribing … and as of late … I’ve been jumping between Transcribing Scott Henderson and Shawn Tubbs stuff. So much good stuff to Learn!
Shawn Tubbs is indeed one of the best guitarists in the industry. I have known him since freshman year high school, and we were in a new wave band together for several years, before he moved to Nashville. Shawn has performed with many renowned artists including Scott Weiland (whom was also in high school with us), and of course currently touring with Carrie Underwood. Scott picks Django Rheinhardt like no one. Any style, any genre Scott is the master. His older brother Lonne is a very fine drummer, and Shawn's twin brother Scott is a fine musician too. I'm an artist developer in CA, a jazz/classical recording artist at jamesrspencer.com . Nice lesson video. Shawn is the man to to study if you are a serious guitarist.
Shawn is a great player, and this is a very nice tutorial! To my ears that maj7 in the first part of the lick should have been a dom7, since we are playing over a C7 chord. I think Shawn made a little mistake here. At that blistering speed you would not notice it, but at slower speed it does nout sound ok.
Hey Andre ... Thanks for checking out our lesson. Yeah ... shawn is amazing ... one of my favorite! As for the analysis of what's going on ... it's definitely in the eye of the beholder. I hear ya and agree with ya to one degree. But I actually don't think it sounds "not ok" when slowed down. There are so many things i used to think sounded too "out" for my ears. But the more I listen and play that kind of stuff ... the more my ear likes it. It's like food ... if you eat caviar for the first time ... most people would hate it. But the more you eat it the more it tastes good. But then again ... to most ... it still tastes like garbage ... so maybe those notes also sound like garbage to most. ha!
Hey Rik ... our website is indeed still active. We are in the process of starting to upload more content again (it's been quite a while). We are also setting up a patreon structure for all the extra content ... like tabs/transcriptions ... as well as exclusive content for those who wish to access it. All will be up and running again soon. Thanks for sticking around ... we have lots of fun content coming soon.
@@TheGuitarBreakdown So there is currently no tabs or transcriptions available for download? I know I saw some of your videos and was interested in downloading the tabs for the exercises. Could never get them. Well I'm happy that you'll be back and running. Keep me posted and thanks for the reply.
chris smith Why not just enjoy the lesson and give him the chance of a bit of an introduction? Maybe it wasn't meant this way, but describing the intro as ''wittering'' seems a bit disrespectful. For one I like to get some context with the licks. Anyway thanks for the lesson David, Shawn Tubbs shure plays some damn tasty licks.
Tim Rodenburg Thanks Tim for the support. It's greatly appreciated. Yeah, "wittering" sounded a little funny. It always makes us throw our hands up and laugh when folks seem to be so dismissive of the amount of time and effort it takes to make these Free youTube Lesson Videos. I mean, you see it all over youTube ... it's the wild west. Some people just want to grab all the free stuff and the only comments they post are "what was crappy about the Free experience". What are ya gonna do! We're not in this game for praise or hails of appreciation ... but the hit and run ... drop a negative comments ... it's a strange world out there. Anyway ... thanks again Tim for watching. Glad you liked the Lesson. Yeah, Shawn is truly a monster! Stick around ... we have a bunch more Lessons on his terrifying stuff to come.
chris smith Boring? For some I suppose ... but man ... he gets to play with new Gear all the time (who doesn't want to do that). And he tours the world, filling stadiums with Carrie Underwood (and even if that's not your type of music ... it'd be awesome to stare at a beautiful woman all day listening to her amazing voice). And ... either way ... hopefully Shawn keeps putting out "boring" gear demo videos ... because we've learned so much from each and every one. And yeah ... paying the rent is good. Lol Hope you at least enjoyed the Video Chris ... Part 2 will be posted Thursday ... it has some more great Arpeggio and Chromatic ideas.
Guitar Breakdown yep great lesson!! learned alot and appreciated it. sorry if you didnt like my previous comment i didnt mean to be rude. its just 4.35 is quite a long time to talk when i dont even know if im going to like the lesson/licks. perhaps go straight into the lesson, then when the viewer is inspired by the style the 'insightful insight' will be more enjoyable. Although others may prefer it as it is!!
ashmaan27 Oh man … no worries on the previous comment. We didn’t take it as you were being rude at all. We appreciate any and all comments. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Yeah … it’s hard to please everyone when giving a youTube Lesson. Some people could care less about the talk and thoughts behind the lick. Some folks just want to know where to put their fingers and they’ll figure out the rest if they want to. But others have expressed they really like the 3 minute nuggets of information. So we do our best to please as many as we can. The intro play through’s in our videos are basically our … “hey, this is what we’re gonna teach in this video”. Then we do a bit of talking … explaining where to get the tab … how were gonna approach the lesson and a little about the artist we are Breaking down. Anyway … Thanks for checking it out. Hope you stick around for part two (will be posted on Thursday) where we do less talking … Ha! … and go over the rest of the licks in the little solo. Some great arpeggio and chromatic stuff in that one.
Guitar Breakdown On reflection i think maybe i havent been as appreciative as i should be at all the obvious hard work youve put in and i shouldnt really encourage others to be skipping past the info. Thanks for all the hard work guys!! But more importantly for offering it to us for nothing!!!
ashmaan27 Oh man ... don't even think twice about it. We're just glad to have you checking out our videos. We appreciate your support! And thanks for the kind words and comment!
Thanks Dave. I'm truly flattered that you would take the time to do a video.

Great. Good video. Yep. Shawn is a tasteful dude and he’s a great spirited guy.

Guys, if you want to avoid the wittering just scroll on to 4:32 for the start of the lick.
