This sounds like exactly my kind of thing, like no thanks but 7 wonders. I love big crunchy euro games as much as the next person, but medium-sized games which put really impactful decisions on one cool mechanic are so much fun to me.
Yeah I am really interested in it too. I feel the bidding should make the destruction of your empire more funny and not as bad as in games where it happen in a deterministically way.
Excellent overview! Empire's End had been one of my most anticipated games, and I really feel like you gave me a great sense of how the game plays and the experience it creates for the players. I'm sure I'll be backing this game, now I just need to decide at what level.
Nice overview. Looks like a fun puzzle with some interesting decisions. I find I really like the tense, agonizing decision style games more than the loose, combo-tastic/point salad style games where it feels like you can always find a way to do most of everything. Thanks for the video!
Amazing preview! Sounds like quite fun and I really enjoy that yes you destroy your city but you gain more resources to prevent that next time and you gain an advantage to tuck. Really clever to avoid complete desperation ! Thanks for the great content !
I think it is venerable that the game disempowers you, or shows you a great civ and has you make key decisions on how it may be destroyed. To add more agency and sense of loss, I would even like the game to go further and allow you to draft a unique set up or play as a distinct race. As a question, is it possible to avoid all disasters? Achieving that must feel great, and I implore a design which is looking at something from a different perspective. As much as we like to build stuff on our tabletop, I don't see it as a true negative when a game is purposefully approaching that expectation and tipping it on its head.
Thanks for the preview, Amy and Maggie! I’m with Maggie in that I don’t like the feeling of things being torn down. Space Station Phoenix, Copan Dying City, and this game are passes for me. I’ll stick with Space Base! :D
Great video and very informative overview as always. Maggie the game you BUILD things, and you will like very much should be Everdell. Did you play your Complete Edition box yet?
Hmmm. I'm on the fence on this one. I enjoy bidding games and civilization themed games. "No Thanks" is always fun to get to the table. However, I don't know if my friends would tolerate the continual punishment this game deals out. I might wait for retail. The Kickstarter version with the wooden pieces seems a bit expensive. I think I can wait on this one to see how the reviews are.
I know this is gonna sound minor, but I didn’t see any asymmetrical powers…..that differentiate your Civ from other civilizations. Because of this, I decide to pass on this game. Great review from Thinker/Themer.

OMG the thumbnail is so good.

just received my copy, for some reason, it gives me vibes of 7 wonders even though it plays nothing like it ... great review thanks
It’d be great to see you two go back and forth throughout the video.

Maggie looks like a Charlie Brown character in the thumbnail
I really appreciated the similarities to Space Base with the entirely different theme and very different game play. (Very Garphill Games)
I really like the concept of this game. Definitely going to check it out. Thanks for the heads up. 😘

I think the asymmetry emerges as people lose different things from their empire.
