- NOMAD SCULPT - How to make hair using Hair Cards
Most 3D programs have a hair system for making realistic looking hair. Nomad sculpt doesn’t have that but since we have got the ability to add textures and create a UV map we have been able to make something called hair cards using a black and white alpha map.
In this video I’ll cover off the basics of creating hair in Nomad. I will show you how to make hair using hair cards and also show you how it looks on a detailed character.

I like the idea of doing more Premieres as they let me chat to friends as the video airs. Like a mini Live with no hassle.
Brilliant tutorial. The procedural approach when you mix them together is the most interesting thing in this. It doesn’t have to be hair, it could be anything like people etc.
Hair cards are insane, I'm gonna have to start experimenting with them just to give my 3D sculpts that extra oomph, though I predominantly sculpt with 3D printing in mind learning these techniques would be highly beneficial.
Yeah you need a few techniques under your belt with hair. I moslty sculpt it.
Very cool.
This is such a great video. Thank you
Thank you
That was useful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Hello, I am applying the hair cards successfully, thank you very much for teaching me this. I'm curious about one thing: will the hair cards come out securely in the 3D printer?
Amazing 🔥
I notice that your background moving while moving camera view, 13:26
How to make that ?
SO that's just changing your background to the environment and bluring it. You can find in in the Background tab.
Do you think a video will help? I could cover 5 or 6 ways to make backgrounds.
@@SouthernGFX thank you, I tried before, but environment not moving. Turns out, I just noticed now that "attached to camere" must be unchecked
@@SouthernGFX of course, looking for your next video. your video always helpful
is "Technical pen 1" a custom brush? i don't seem to see it on procreate
It’s just ‘technical pen’ found under ink and the 1 means I might have messed with it a little bit nothing major. It’s my most used brush
@@aroid_artist mine works DRASTICALLY different than in the video though
loved it this technic looks so mutch easyer then what i was doing befor thnx m8
This is one of the easiest ways for sure and the best looking results I think.
As always, a great informative video - but you should have waited, because with version 1.85 the tube has a UV and makes the hair card thing even better. Ok, the workflow is the same…
Gives me opportunity for the next one :) I’m so excited about this next release.
There is so much new in the new version that all tutorials should be revised. Of course I am happy for ALL USERS, because we are already using the new version as a beta. Best regards.@@SouthernGFX
Great succinct video…you make it look easy! 🙏🍷🎩🎩🎩✌️
Very lovely. Isn't this technic still appliable and the only way with modern PC software since game engines can only take them in this way? I don't think there is a vanilla method for them to see Blender or Zbrush hair system right?
Do you have any videos or know how to do this for like feathers on a bird? im incredibly new to nomad ;n;
Thanks, as I would only sculpt this in the past. Are there any downsides to this technique when you export this to another platform afterwards, say Zbrush or Blender?
Could you show us how to put the hair together to make a hair style? Im currently trying to make a regular hairstyle but i dont wanna crash the app with duplicating so much lol
I looked b4 i typed this lol but by any chance do you have your iPad info ( model specs etc )?
M1 16GB 1TB is my main one. I also record on a 2020 6GB and a 2018 4GB to show lower machine performance. This video is on the 16GB. I’d say 6GB minimum and if you get the free Geekbench app you can see all specs on a machine. RAM is king!
@@SouthernGFX1 TB iPads are pretty damn expensive, but I think I should be fine with my 2021 iPad pro with 256 gb of storage and 8 GB of RAM.
@@DafSpi yeah they are all expensive comparatively. The storage makes no difference as it’s the ram doing all the work and 8gb is fine. Everything I’ve ever shown can be done on the 8gb
@@SouthernGFX I know the storage doesn’t make any difference, but only the 1 and 2 TB models come with 16 GB RAM. Those models cost a fortune, though 😅
New here, how did you change the max amount of free space from around 2 gb to almost 16 gb?
Do you think an 11 inch iPad Pro would feel too small to sculpt on?
I’ve got the 10 or 11 in iPad Air 5, super fun to sculpt on.
Wow
Glad you like it!
