Watch the video to listen to my feedback on all of those units. You can find my opinion there as well as sound test demo of the units compared.
The Eversolo DMP-A6, Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition, and Eversolo DMP-A8 are all digital music players that offer exceptional sound quality and a range of features. The Eversolo DMP-A6 is the base model, while the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition is an upgraded version of the DMP-A6. The Eversolo DMP-A8 is the most advanced model of the three.
The Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition offers several upgrades over the base model, including a more powerful power supply, improved clock circuitry, and a higher-quality digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The Eversolo DMP-A8, on the other hand, has a larger display, a fully balanced preamp section, and supports both RCA and XLR inputs and outputs .
Some suggest that the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition offers a more refined and detailed sound compared to the base model and that the Eversolo DMP-A8 offers a warmer and more lifelike sound compared to the Eversolo DMP-A6. With That I can agree, but there is in my opinion a star in the middle - Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition
A post on MartinLogan Audio Owners Forum suggests that the Eversolo DMP-A8 is a larger version of the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition and includes ARC HDMI and many upgrades. The post also suggests that the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition has a bunch of upgrades over the base model.
A on AV.com suggests that the Eversolo DMP-A8 offers a more spacious and warmer sound compared to the Eversolo DMP-A6. The review also suggests that the Eversolo DMP-A8's fully balanced preamp section enables more flexibility when setting up your hi-fi system ⁴.
A post on Audio Science Review compares the Eversolo DMP-A6, Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition, and Eversolo DMP-A8. The post suggests that the Eversolo DMP-A8 is the most advanced model of the three and offers a more refined and detailed sound compared to the Eversolo DMP-A6. The post also suggests that the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition offers a more refined and detailed sound compared to the base model.
In summary, the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition offers several upgrades over the base model, while the Eversolo DMP-A8 is the most advanced model of the three. The Eversolo DMP-A8 offers a more spacious and warmer sound compared to the Eversolo DMP-A6, while the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition offers a more refined and detailed sound compared to the base model. Ultimately, the choice between these models depends on your personal preferences and budget.

thank you for your efforts, excellent job on the recording quality you put others to shame, this its a fantastic dimension to your reviews, many reviewers give their subjective opinion but its very hard to know if their listening experience/preference matches mine. i have been building my own dacs and amps for many years plus speaker building so i would say i have a fairly objective ear that generally agrees with measured data. What is very interesting is i listen then make my own summary of which i like the best and note down what i think is better or worse then i listen to what you have to say and 95-99% of the time we agree.

Thanks you very much for the demo. Your comparison helped me decide to go for the A6 Master, over the A8..., why? because I heard the some differences, but the difference is not enough for me to justify the additional cost of A8. I was leaning towards the Master before I found your channel. I can't wait to hear it in my system. Please note if I could hear the differences on my Mac, I can't wait to hear it in my system. Thanks for your time and efforts, bringing this video to us. Have a blessed days.

Had the a6 me and upgraded to a8. No external dac. Going directly into McIntosh power amp via xlr. In my system, a8 sounds much better. Bigger sound stage with a more analog sounding presence. Good detail and separation of instruments. Sound is more warm compared to a6 me.

Thank you for the video, it was very informative and helped me decide which Eversolo streamer to get. I also have open baffle speakers (PAP Quintet 15), terminator 2 DAC, Audio Research Ref6 and Rogue Audio 180 monos. But I have been using my cheap laptop with win 11, as a streamer, thanks to you I ordered A-6 master edition. Planning on upgrading the power supply soon, as an option is available to do this. Thanks, I have become a subscriber as well, well done on your good work.

Just discovered this video and thank you for the content. I've had a A6ME for 10 months and really enjoy it. However internal DAC is a bit bright for my taste and I have paired it with A Gustard X26Pro with Gustard U18 DDC which is a significant improvement over internal Dac. I did notice on the video a difference between the A6ME and the A8. The difference with the Gustard is a level above both.

@VirtualHiFi - Excellent video and incredible work investigating (and sharing!) the recorded comparisons. Question: DSP aside, on the A8, did you find that changing the DEFAULT filter setting from "Short Delay-Sharp Roll-Off" to "Slow Roll-Off" helped with the "artificial" sound and artifacting? (TERRIBLE choice for a filter default, unless Eversolo assumes that you have a "MUSHY" and unresolving chain that the A8 has to "cut through" to create an illusion of resolution...) [edit] Excellent tip on the CD capability! Thank you.

I have used the Eversolo A6 ME for a week now, what an improvement over my dell pc running win 11. Very dark background and vocals to die for, and very pinpoint of instrument placement. I could even hear the singers breathing. Remarkable improvement for low cost, I have retired my laptop for good. Thank you. Just a small request can you please make a video comparing the Eversolo AMP F-2 to your other class D amplifiers you have? Thank you.

I have owed A6, A6 ME and now A8..... To me they are all good, the Sabre Dac in the A6's are ok, but the A8 sounds better if your not using a external dac, the AKM dac are much better to "me" than the A6's.. The A6 ME is very good if your using an external dac, the A8 steps up the game in the Dac arena if your not using an external dac.

Interesting review, although our system's and possibly taste are different. My system like yours is as neutral as I could get except that I have an integrated valve amp so as far as posible I can rely on my choyes of valve's to influence my sound.
Your description of the A8 as not having the same tonal richness of the A6 master therefore is a plus to me.
Also as it happens if a sound engineer walked into my room they would be horrified as my other hobby is keeping tropical fish so varios reflective glass surfaces. my feeling is that part luck part design I have created sound traps at the points where a sound treated room would place "Audio sound traps" the so called first reflection points. Trying DSP there fore would be particularly interesting to me to compare and possibly learn about my rooms normal acoustics.
PS I know others disagree with me but to me whether I'm listening on my sound system or my tv it is still my speakers I'm hearing so I like your opinions, comparisons and user experience but I never listen to sound comparisons .Though your recording sounded much better than most (verry clear)I still did not hear any difference though my tv.

Good job on the recording… I completely preferred the stand alone A6MA over using it with the audio external DAC. Next time use the same music for all A-B comparisons. There just isn’t any audible advantages using the external DAC combination for the extra cost! The A6ME is a steal!!!

Bought my son an A6, which he told me to use until May. Been feeding a Macintosh with my CD collection from a vault2 (Bluesound), and a substantial album collection, but between ears damaged from years of playing bass with very loud drummers, chainsaws, and guns, (and having recorded and mixed more than 40 cd’s in my personal studio), I can just barely hear any difference between the two A6’s. That being said, I will likely buy an A6ME in May, as I like the basic interface, and may hear a difference in my listening room (and really, the price difference is minor compared to the cost of some other streamers out there). The comparison between albums and an A6 is a study in slight digital artifacts that I wouldn’t notice without doing an A/B test. I think the things you don’t really like about the A8 is actually that the unit is good to the point where you may be starting to hear the digital artifacts in the source material…sometimes more is not better.

    • @VirtualHiFi
      @VirtualHiFi  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

That might be it since yes I could start hearing the sound being a bit more digital. I have revealing open system and it was over the top for sure. The HiFi Rose RS130 had very similar balance, but did not share the same character.

This is an excellent comparison, well done and I know this takes a lot of work video and audio wise to put this together. Well done. I'm a newbie and was savings up for the Hifi Rose Rs130 love the big screen and vu meters but ever solo makes it hard to justify spending the cash there at hifi Rose. Question: Do the VU meter actually move according to the sound output or do they move randomly?

Maybe do the power supply upgrade for your current model? I have the a6 ME and bought PD Creative linear power supply. It absolutely transformed the Me a6 to a machine I sort of " had to " like to a machine that I really love. the differences are worth every $$$ . Linear power supply is a great upgrade to get rid of harshness and digital sound and move it towards a much more warm, open, spacious sounding analogue sound. Not sure if you'd get quite the same upgrade experience on the a6 but I'm sure it's the best upgrade you could do. Power cables make a difference too. They can very much change the overall sound of any device.

Listening again, with a different system, now I heard the A8 being slightly more natural, but both have some small shoutiness. I liked them more with their internal DACs for that reason, albeit a bit more smeared. For the price, I'd still choose the A6 ME with an LPS since I'd only need the digital out.

Good one thanks. The size of the A8 makes the A6ME a better bet for me.
I installed the LHY linear supply on my Bluesound Node (N130) so I know that particular upgrade works well and look forward to your review of the A6ME with the new linear power supply installed before I consider any moves. I have a simple Topping E70 Velvet DAC on my Node but may go the R2R route in the future. Kind of like the BluOs app so am hesitant to make the step up with Eversolo unless it is a great difference from the Node.

I had the ME at first with my monitor audio platinum 100 3g and my headphones hifiman arya stealth and a topping a90d. I liked the sound from both sourses. Then i traded in my ME to an a8. Definitley better sound from a8. I sold my topping, and i am still waiting for my new ifi audio pro ican studio. A newer model of signature, so i have not tested the a8 with my headphones yet. I even bought eversolos 2ch amp f2 for my monitors. For what i heard you did not mention about the a8 has loads more settings than the other two.

Thank you for your feedback. Indeed I try to concentrate on the sound as much as possible. Al the settings and features are a bit secondary to me, provided I can use it comfortably (apps etc). I believe there are systems that will benefit from the sound character of the A8 for sure. My use case is that I use extrenal DAC anyway and I liked the a6Me characted as a streamer a bit more :)

Thanks for posting the streamer-only comparisons. Most reviewers tend to just gloss over this comparison. Via IEM's, I think a lot of your impressions come from what I heard, which is A6 Master has a more pronounced upper-to-mid bass, way more than A6 and mildly more than A8, so A6 Master will give more richness to vocals and more punch and that "analogue" groove. I believe this is a pleasant coloration, more like good vinyl, but if I had A8, I would use non class-D amps to balance things out and end up with slightly more resolution than A6 Master. JIMHO.

I have just replaced my thirty year old stereo system with the Yamaha A-S3200 integrated amplifier and Klipsch Forte IV speakers. I am now getting into streaming, but being short on cash I purchased an Echo Link. It is functional, but I want a better streaming experience, so after doing my research as to which streamer would best accomplish what I want in a sound system I've decided to purchase the A6 Master as soon as possible. Thank you for the video and I could definitely hear the difference between the A6 and the A6 Master.

I own the A6 Master Edition. I think the internal DAC is pretty good. Good soundstage and natural. In my experience it is worthwhile exploring its filtering options. However, I found the bass range to be too warm and colored for my taste no matter which filter I used. I use it USB out to a PS Audio DS MKll DAC and found digital heaven. Can’t imagine ever needing to upgrade to anything else.

I like the organic sound of the A6ME. As you say, the A8 sounded a bit more digital.
The A6ME, while it may have a narrower soundstage, I felt that it had a slightly deeper soundstage than the A8.
However, I felt that the A6ME offered lesser sound resolution than the A8. If I have to choose between the two, I would be torn.
Maybe a future A8ME will be the absolute sweet spot!

Curious to your thoughts. I have a Mcintosh. C2700 preamp, which has a built in DAC. Therefore, I was planning on using this as a streamer only. Hooked up to Bowers 802 D4 with a McIntosh 462 for power.. The question is whether you feel the streamer in the Eversolo is better than the one included in the Macintosh. You may not have any knowledge, but I’m just wondering. If the streamer is not very good in the McIntosh, does it make sense to get the A8?

    • @VirtualHiFi

Since you have a streamer already and I hope Mcintosh did a decent job the best would be to test it. • @Rascallucci
    @Rascallucci 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I actually see it quite differently. Correct me if I am wrong, for the A6 and A6 ME comparison, no external DAC was used right? I actually liked the cleaner sound of the A6 over the A6 ME because I believe once I run the A6 using my own external DAC as well as my amp and speakers, there will be enough "sauce" if you will to make it sound even better. This is much evident when you run the A6 ME and the A8 through your Weiss DAC, once you did that both streamers actually sounded extremely similar. The only difference I could detect was the A8 sounded darker with less noise and I saw that as a product of the much better power supply in the A8.
So, my take is as follows, for me I would pick the A6 without a doubt over the A6 ME and A8. I believe the unbelievable low price point of the A6 is why it is such an attractive package because pound-for-pound in terms of money vs performance I don't think there is a streamer on the market that can beat that. Once you start looking to add more money on top of that sweet spot of a price point in trying to gain extra performance, I think it dilutes why the A6 is so special in the first place. Personally, once you get to that A8 price point, I would be thinking what the heck I might as well go all the way and buy something that I really want like the HiFi Rose RS 130 although of course that is significantly even more than the A8.

All of them are amaizng to be around and the display, nice working app makes the entry level A6 great. Imo the sound of A6 ME is well worth the extra money. but for some might not.

In my system the detail was over the top, and I did like the A6Me overall more for its analogue rich yet dynamic character. Addin the LHY LPS made the sound more detailed and wider withough loosing the analoginess. Hello, I really like your videos and your excellent sound recording work and I think you would be better heard if you also shared, with a link in your comments, your audio files on a sharing site where we could download them to listen directly without the bad filters of youtube! A short silence, for example, separating the 2 amps to allow us to identify each other, but we can also identify the youtube timecode and note it down to know when it's one amp or the other.
Indeed, when I listened to sound samples from your tests between the DMP-A6 and DMP-A6 Master Edition, I clearly heard a difference in volume in favor of the ME, and for those who listen, a small difference of 0.2 DB makes the loudest listening always better!
after several steps, I recovered your sounds in my studio one software, and curiously enough, I no longer found any difference in sound, so I was able to listen freely. But this remains with compression and other youtube optimizations nonetheless. what do you think?

    • @VirtualHiFi
      @VirtualHiFi  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hello and thank you for sharing your opinion. There are some volume differences, but they must be there otherwise all devices would sound the same. If one device has way more pronounced midrange than the second one, and I'd match the level to of the midrange the bass and high frequencies would be not as pronounced so it would be worse than the other one while objectively better since with greater natural volume the better the dynamics are at least in that frequency range. So its hard to balance and I use pink noise and SPL meter to match the volumes since that seems the most objective.
When it comes to better quality than YT, I am working on it :)

Appreciate that, speakers I like, also maybe expensive to upgrade. The vega g1 is maybe 5ish years old, has things advanced musically that much in streamer/dacs in a way to give you that wow moment or does it take critical listening to notice the differences?

    • @VirtualHiFi

With the Qualio IQ that I have here you can clearly hear the difference right away. , and if your Audio Physics are good you should be able too hear it too. It's very rare to note really hear the difference instantly, and I would never use such a brave words as I do if the difference wasn't audible at first few notes ;)

I'm not a fan of the preamps un those units. In my experience all DAC regulated volume controls more often than not using relays as a switches damage the sound and kill the energy and musicality. I have my eversolo all the way to the max and use a potentiometer in the amplifier.

This is a good question. The British Audiophile guy says to change the A8 to soft roll-off. Have not experimented with it. I have an A8 and use it as a streamer out to a Chord Qutest. I’ve meant to swap it out and share the internal A8 DAC with my AudioLab CDT9000 transport, but honestly, the energy i get with the Qutest DAC with both the A8 and CDT9000 is so good I’ve just been too lazy to change it!

  • @theoracleprodigy

A6 ME has more sparkle imo in the top end. A8 has less on the top end and maybe that is contributing to the sound stage? They are very, very close imo. I don't see that it would be worth it either for the upgrade and the A6 ME sounds better to me.

Very interesting test, but with the speakers I have, around 3000 euros, I don't really feel the difference between the A6 and A8, as if the A8's voice is more crystalline. Again the speakers make the difference....A friend told me after changing many speakers over a period of 40 years, with speakers over 10,000 euros you start to feel the clear difference between different components, DAC, preamplifier, interconnect... Now I have A6 Master with external DAC Topping DX7PRO, it seems more open with DX7, but I can't say for sure. Of course I have to change the speakers...

it's not about the money, and it's not that you need to spend some cash to get there. there are some cheaper stunning speakers that can do you good, as they are great d-class amps that you can get for up to 200$ but yes more money opens more opportunities, however one don't need 10000 in speakers to get there ;)

This new video sounds in mono compared to the previous one (DMP-A6 vs DMP-A6ME). In this one there is no soundstage at all. No way to pinpoint instruments placement. Everything sounds in the center.
Due to the sound being in mono , there is no way to compare in terms of soundstage and dimension, both streamers sounds identical.
The only perceptible differences are in tonal qualities due to the nature of both units.
Play both videos alternatively and you will notice the stereo and mono sound difference between both.

I really can’t understand how identical digital transports can sound different? Master edition got extra only in analog part , digital processing is the same.
