    I auditioned the G2.2 last year and ended up buying it as there is a significant improvement over the G2 that I previously owned. I like the tonal balance and the level of detail the G2.2 delivers. It’s also very musical, for want of a better word.

    First of all I'd like to see I love your reviews and secondly but just as important your channel along with "new record day" TH-cam channel (and perhaps few other audiophile TH-cam channels), I love the effort you and new record day put in regarding micing up your sessions, so we can hear what you are listening to. You both do excellent micing up. Brilliant... I appreciate the astuteness what you relay to us regarding your findings off the presentation of a particular audio equipment. That being said I would like you to review one more streamer DAC preamp and compare it to what you have reviewed so far and that is the NAD M66... as it's in a similar price bracket to the hi-fi Rose. I hope you are able to make this and if so I am looking forward to hearing your findings

      Thank you for your very kind words and feedback. Indeed I try to share everything with you guys as I also like such YT tests and I even picked the Schoeps microphones thanks to channels doing microphones comparisons like I do here with audiophile gear. Noted about Nad, I'll try to do a next batch of streamers some day but it all depends on the availability of the units. Some distributors and manufacturers are super excited by the option of free review and some seem not to be interested at all. Also comparison reviews arent easy for some of them since some products are 90% sound quality and 10% marketing and others can be totally the other way around. And you guys will instantly hear it ;)

    Hi, what is the Qts value for your F10 Select? I have open baffle setup the higher the qts vale it is better for open baffle applications. I am diving into open baffle speaker building, and I do realise any open baffle sub cannot match the dedicated sub, so I have incorporated two SVS subs in my system. I went for SVS subs than REL because SVS can be adjusted on the fly through the dedicated app, to your harts content. Your speakers are excellent incorporating the best of open baffle and closed cabinets for lower frequencies. Thanks.

    Great comparison. Thank you. I use the Auralic G2.1 in my system and love it. On the video I found I like it best on the Beautiful life track in both the presentation of vocals and piano. Less clear of a preference in some of the other tracks. Also, since I am an apple user, the app works pretty well for me. Another interesting quirk is that the SQ is clearly best through the app with WiFi and roon disabled. Background is blacker and there is an overall calmer feeling. Unfortunately that’s not practical for every day listening. But That may not be the same in the 2.2 version.

    My preference:
    1. Auralic
    2. Eversolo
    3. HiFi Rose
    The Eversole had the widest soundstage but somehow the sounds weren't that solid/tight compared to Auralic. In this respect, Auralic was completely satisfying. Auralic's soundstage was a tad less wide as Eversolo (barely noticeable if one didn't pay attention) but I find myself sometimes tempted to characterise Eversolo's soundstage as "scattered" rather than wide. Auralic also controlled the top end quite well while Eversolo sometimes seemed to have trouble tempering the sibilance. Somehow, I heard some very nice sounds in the lower midrange come through that I didn't discern from the other two. HiFi Rose was lodged in between the other two in character and consequently not outstanding in any way. (And I totally agree with you that its sounds are more forward: I could see the whole stage closer to me.) I can't help saying this: Auralic was noticeably the most satisfying.
    (Disclaimer: I have substantial hearing loss in the midtones on both ears and hence am informed by a bass-centric hearing preference. This does not simply mean that I like music to have a preponderance of bass. But it does mean that what little of midtones that I hear may be impacted by my bass centricity. I've always believed that there is "covariance" across the highs, midtones and bass and so one's enjoyment of each of them isn't solely determined by the sounds within just that one range but rather that each is also impacted by its interaction with the other two ranges.)

    Enjoyed your balanced conclusion and loved your description saying one is like a Lambo whilst the other is like a Bentley. I sometimes listen to some systems and one might sound more detailed and exciting, like driving a 1.6 litre sporty hot hatch on the motorway where as another system might initially seem more boring but there's a sense of class, luxury and ease like driving a 3 litre Mercedes or Audi saloon car on the motorway. It's not always one is better but which presentation you prefer at that time depending on your mood.

    I still have the original auralic aries. I could not justify the additional cost in terms of improvement when I auditioned the G1 and G2. The Rose 130 is exactly what you said bigger, more 3d. You can here the realism in the vocals in your video over the other 2 streamers. I went ahead and purchased the Rose. I'm very happy with it, and TH-cam is a great addition. The app is so annoying at times. It works but is not very intuitive in favour of the user. I am now looking at roon to eliminate this problem, but the sound is why I kept the Rose, although I won't forgive the app. Hopefully, HiFi Rose will improve this section with updates.
    The Rose can is not as laid back as nicely as the auralic but yes as you say that reverb is so nice.

    Seeing that R2R DACs are known for their "analogue-iness" and holographic presentation, which of these streamers would you prefer with let's say Holo Audio May? I'm currently rocking Eversolo A6 ME with upgraded PSU but I'm intrigued by Hifi Rose RS130 now as it also seems to be offering what I'd need from streamer (local library playback from either M.2 drive or USB, wifi connectivity with an app to control the unit and USB output). It's not that I don't like the A6 in my system and I actually don't really need more holography nor soundstage (which is something you highlighted as main improvement on RS130 when compared to A6), May is already great at that, but perhaps I could fancy a tad more punch and control in lower frequencies. Plus I'm not sure whether the A6 does my system enough justice - while I understand price is not everything, it's a fraction of a cost of my other main components (aforementioned Holo Audio May KTE, then for amps I have Holo Audio Bliss KTE and Feliks Audio Euforia Evo and quite a wide variety of top of the line headphones). Anyway, great hearing your thoughts on differences between the units.

    Hello, Thank you very much for this comparison, I always wondered how the HiFi Rose and Auralic would have sounded in my system. Honestly I am very happy that I didn’t spend the extra money to purchase either the HiFi Rose or Auralic. As far as I am concerned there was no difference, I would rather spend the money in upgrading the speakers or the DAC which makes a big difference than streamers. Please compare the class d amps including the Eversolo class d amp as well. Thank you for your efforts. I have checked your speakers but I prefer bigger speaker drivers, at the moment I am running Tang Bang W8 1808, with 4 15” Eminence speaker drivers per channel. Looking for another driver which will be better than the tang ban, any suggestions? I have tried Voxative AC 1.6, and in my opinion the tang bang is better. I have also tried the horn (Beyma compression driver), it certainly an improvement over the Voxativ but was harsh, so I switched to tang band.

      Thnak you for your comment.
      Yes Eversolo is the best bargain here. Even though the change is not night and day, listening with the Auralic adds a lot to depth and magic of the system. So its just a cherry on top. Costly cherry ;)
      Yes spending the money on other devices might be better, but I'd definitely prefer to get the auralic than on the amps at the moment. I had the Fosi embarassed so many amps not that it's not even funny.
      I'll try to do such Class D wars and will try to bring some silly nearly to hear too lift High End amps for comparison ;)
      The Tang back that you have is a very colorful drviver and Voxativ is definitely more Lowther like in the Character with bigger presence in the upper midrange. In Cube we have different approach and we like to balance the speakers very nicely. You can here the entry level already retired Fc8 driver in a MLTL cabinet here th-cam.com/video/HjIUk5voWdo/w-d-xo.html
      10" drivers are even richer sounding in balance and you can cut them in the OB even lower than any 8" drivers which gives great presence in the lower midrange.
      All Cube drivers has a QT of around 0.45-0.5 which is a sweet spot for good Fullrange driver balance.

    Great video, great recording skills!, It is possible to hear differences between all three. But why are there there differences again ? Embedded DSP effects is the answer as all these products have signal processing baked in. Harmonic excitation in the 500 Hz to 1.5k Hz range accentuates voices and instruments i.e. 3D like. Spatial effects are achieved by delaying and/or repeating parts of the signal along with stereo widening effects. Analyze the raw and processed signals to see the differences. High end audio is like smart phone cameras, processed to perfection.

    • @VirtualHiFi
      @VirtualHiFi  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comment. It may be so since everything matters, the power supply, application, topology, cables, connectors etc. the most important thing is that there is a difference and the only question left is is it reasonable for each of us to spend our limited resources on this one particular component. ;)

    • @williamobrien6936
      @williamobrien6936 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In digital domain I agree that that audio circuit design can make a difference, but a relatively minor one. The biggest effects are from the flavor of DSP algorithms used by various manufacturers. If anyone doubts this then I encourage them to install a programmable DSP in the signal path and experiment. With a few careful tweaks you can replicate high end sound even on modest equipment. For example, you can make FS speakers sound like open baffles, increase or reduce the size of the sound stage, have voices to pop out of the mix, etc. with a few DSP settings tweaks. People should be aware of what is really going on. @@VirtualHiFi

      @@williamobrien6936agree 100%. These "high end" manufacturers will have you believe that it's the quality of the parts that create the sound but anyone who has a good understanding of digital electronics knows this is not true. They will tell you that jitter is a problem so you need super expensive stable oscillators when in reality a sufficiently stable clock for SPDIF will cost very little. If it's "bit perfect" it will sound 100% the same. If you're hearing differences, this is down to baked-in DSP. EQ, phase shift etc. you'll only be able to see this by doing packet analysis on the digital output.

    Very interesting! I have the Eversolo a6 me with upgraded power supply... listening here, even from iPhone, there's differences. Hifirose has more punch on low end but the auralic... that has it - on the first piece, the piano and space and sound is as I hear it, most relaxed. Eversolo is good, just less relaxed, less punchy...
    Who can explain a streamer to a have had this level of differences being audible? Dacs, amps, even ce players or record players... but streamers?

    • @Chris-hy6jy
      @Chris-hy6jy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It just means they're not "bit perfect" or the manufacturer has deliberately tweaked the phasing between left and right channels. A bit perfect SPDIF signal with zero phase shift and good clock stability will always sound 100% the same regardless of the price of the streamer.

  • @Rascallucci
    @Rascallucci 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    It really depends. If you are not a serious streamer which I am not, the Eversolo is probably more than good enough for me. However, if I am thinking ahead for my next upgrade in terms of the system as a whole, say a Gryphon Diablo 300, Marten Oscar Trio, (not sure what DAC yet), then I think HiFi Rose will probably be the way to go. Actually, there is one more brand that you didn't test and that is Aurender. Aurender came out way before HiFi Rose and its price point is ridiculously expensive, may be they thought they could cream the market at that point. Take the W20SE for example, this isn't even the top of the range N30SA 2-box model and it is already asking for US$23K!! I don't know whether there is an Aurender dealer near you, but it certainly would be interesting to audition/review it to see what it is all about. In my mind, correct me if I am wrong since you have an IT background, a music streamer is essentially just a computer of some sort that has been optimized to reduce noise and interference for high fidelity music, I really don't see how it could be worth US$23K, but I could be wrong.😅 I also wonder since HiFi Rose came out, could Aurender even be struggling? I can see a lot more people going for HiFi Rose just for their huge screens alone over Aurender.

      Thanks for sharing. Yes I am going for the Auralic, since it sound better in my system, but I'm all in for the functionality and looks of the HiFi Rose. It's the best streamer for high-end lifestyle market for sure. If I were not for 100% sound journey I'd be more than happy with the Rose. Auralic IMO will be more universal one. So yes it's all about the balance. I never judge the sound by the price. I heard amazing things costing pennines and bullshit sound for milions. It's just expensive things have the advantage since they can be built with better quality components. But in the end if the designer is clueless or (just an engineer without passion for listening critically to their creations ), 1000$ device and be better than 10000$ one :)

The streamer is a relatively cheap Project Stream Box Ultra that was 600 pounds a few years ago and i think it still costs the same. The sound, in my opinion, is exceptional. These streamers cost a lot more. I have not heard them, but I doubt they can make the sound better. They only carry digital ones and twos etc etc. it's the dac that is important, not the streaming device. If you look at pictures of the insides of the Auralic, it's almost empty. Some copper shielding won't do anything. Even a laptop will give exceptional sound.

    First, thanks for producing content like this. I spent way too much time listening to this, considering that it is a TH-cam video. I would suggest a greater range of genres to present as audition because they are all too similar being acoustic jazz/pop. Great music but way too limited. The over arching theme to me was that there really isn’t much in it between these three. I did hear some differences but nothing in quality really. Any sonic characteristic differences may likely be indiscernible with more complex music. I thought the Denafrips vs A6 video showed greater difference between the two even with the same basic music. I listened via my high end headphone setup twice then went ahead and hooked up my computer to my main 2 channel system for a final comparison.
    Cutting to the chase, over headphones I chose the Rose 130 as tops on 2 songs (Chlara/Yamamoto) and 2nd on the other 2. I chose the A6 as top on two (James/Chamberlain), but 2nd (Yamamoto) and 3rd on the other (Chlara). The Auralic was 2nd on the Chlara and 3rd on the other 3. On my speakers, the A6 maintained the same spots, but the Rose dropped its 2nd to 3rd thus the Auralic had two 2’s and two 3’s. Bottom line, if price was equal I’d probably choose the Rose 130 over the A6 and the A6 over the G2.2. Given the GUI interface/apps and that the A6 is soooo much less expensive, I don’t hear enough to make me chose the others over the A6. That’s my impressions of the three. Thanks again.

    Much better as you go up in price. However the products are for different markets and prices. Ever solo is for USD 2500-5000 set ups. Rose is for those spending all their money on hifi. Aurelic provides emotional improvements that only are justifiable if you do power treatment and acoustically improve the room and place speakers accordingly to room modes. Aurelic suits USD 35000-60000 range set ups. So different market. If you like to better the Aurelic for less price than the Eversolo, get a proper disc transport, get a used good AES/EBU cable and use a decent 10-15 year old high end dac (multiple transformers, galvanic isolation and good components (even if chip is old it will sound more high end and less hifi). It is hard to get good sound from streaming but easy from discs. But 99 percent should buy an eversolo and improve the rest of the system like getting a proper power cable that improves the Eversolo to surpass higher level streamer dacs.

On contrary much budget streamers like WiiM Pro EverSolo DMP-A6 have really good apps and integrations with hires audio platforms. He has probably around $80,000 in audio gear, and I have went from $30,000 in gear to around that $7000 mark after finding what works. It all boils down to the actual user experience, if it is buggy and will not work when you want it to, or limits your ability to play the services you really want, what good is it? And that is where usability comes in, and the reason there are so many of us out here that recommend and really enjoy these WiiM streamers.
      I am not a fan of the WiiM DAC, it sounds ok, and it is very passable for casual listening, it is not that bad.
      Now, put a quality DAC on the WiiM, like my PS Audio unit, or any quality DAC, and I think most folks would be hard pressed to hear a difference between the WiiM and a high dollar streamer.

Why waste money on a more expensive streamer that can't sound any better? Bits are bits. Streamers and dacs are commodity items now. My Wiim Pro Plus in my office sounds just as good as the DMP-A6. I just got the A6 for the eye candy of the screen. The only thing it makes sense to spend more on now are good speakers. I just looked up the price on the Hifi Rose. $5,195? There are no bits traveling through a cable. It's modulated current that forms the digital information. This signal may be distorted leading to timing error and jitter. Furthermore every cable acts as an antenna thus may pick up electrical noise such as EMI or RFI. That noise does not change the bits but has an impact on the analog circuits in the DAC, diminishing the perceived audio quality.
      Consider it as two glasses full of water; one is pure and clean and the other is polluted. Chemically both are H2O (bits are bits), but think of the difference it makes on your digestive system if you drink the polluted water...
      Higher end gear usually takes more care of suppressing noise using galvanic isolation etc. and avoiding jitter.

Should no t cost a fortune.
