Interesting recipe. I watched nigella lawson and she puts an apricot glaze on hers and decorates the top with nuts and dried fruit. Delia Smith covers hers with marzipan and fondant. She likes to soak hers in brandy. I'm American so I've never eaten one but I think it would be so fun to soak one in alcohol by feeding it throughout the season!
Im going to give this a try for Christmas 2025. Already made a badic one but this sounds way better n also meeps longer. Goto use brandy instead of whiskey.
Love how the inner primal Irish lad in him that wanders the moors searching for his bonny sweetnums, comes forth with that deep rumbling voice! And the cake, man, just as handsome and wholesome as you are! 🙈❤️ Merry Christmas!
HI Chris I'm making 20 Christmas cakes for the old folks this Christmas ⛄🎁 and i soak All my fruit in rum and then i mix all the wet ingredients together before
I made some Christmas cake for the English museum, but without the alcohol and called it fruit cake. People said it was good and looked surprised. I’m making this recipe for home.
I’ve got all those ingredients Chris, so definitely going to have a go (except the deep tin) but that’s easily fixed. Have already made the puddings (I make for three friends as well) what Irish house hasn’t got Guinness and Jamesons 😂. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family ☘️❤️🌹🌈
Sounds like a good Christmas cake! My Ukrainian grandmother used to make Christmas cake. She put raisins, dates & prunes(dried plums) the glace cherries, & pecans or walnuts, I don't remember. I haven't had her cake since 1965 when she passed away. She did put rye whiskey & rum over her cakes & she made them in tins that had the hole in the middle. She too, would pour whiskey & rum over them. I don't like the ones they sell in the stores, & my mom never made them. I don't know if I have babcia's recipe or not. I loved her Christmas cakes that were so moist as a kid, but I didn't know until I was grown that it was the alcohol that probably made those cakes so good! I don't like Guiness, but I do love the Jameson's here in the U.S. Your kids are just so adorable! Handsome young lad, & a beautiful lass! But you're very handsome & your wife is drop dead gorgeous so you made beautiful children!
Yes dates and prunes are good too! 👌🏻😊 Your mother sounds like an amazing woman who knew what she was doing 💚 Thanks very much Phyllis. Hope you have a lovely Christmas ☃️🎄
Hi, I am going to try your Christmas cake. Looks amazing. Do I need to make any adjustments to oven temperature or time given the higher altitude where I live. 5k above sea level. Thanks
Your video made my day . I'm going to make this . Your presentation is the best I have seen and the family involvement was utterly charming . May I ask why you used almond flour , please ?
@@irishbakerabroad I intend to, wish my children were as young as yours it would make it more fun! I will be baking the Christmas cake. God bless you and your family have a blessed Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
@ made the cake last night. Feed & wrapped up. Are you doing any icing on yours? Looking for a recipe for almond paste & royal icing. Can’t tolerate the shop bought fondant.
What is almond flour? Is it the same as ground almonds? The father is so good looking and they have two lovely children - the mother must be thinking she has died and gone to heaven . . .
It must smell good. You’ve got the mini-me’s hovering about. 🍰
Irish fruit cake looks delicious!
Thank you very much! 😊
Your little guy had me at "Whatchoo talkin' bout Willis" - did NOT see that coming 😆
80's sitcom references for the win!
😁🙌🏻
Merry Christmas. Watching you makes me miss Ireland so much more. Cheers.
He is not in Ireland - he is in a European country, I think he said Belgium in the beginning of the video . . .
Denmark.
I do think that they meant his Irish Accent and Irish baking is making them miss Ireland, though
Thank you. That is what I meant. I should have made my point a bit more clearer. @@deeangelvampire
My wife made this the other day and we've just had our first slice of it. Hands down the best Christmas cake I've ever tasted.
Love this. My aunts would make this in Cork and add almond paste on top and cover with royal icing.
That’s right Frank. I was thinking of doing that meself 👍🏻☘️
We added Brandy to the cake top over a couple of months! It was a drunk cake by Christmas but sooo good!
Brilliant Chris. My Granny used to make Christmas cake, love the smell!
Cheers Paddy! Fair play to her 🇮🇪☘️😊
Lovely children, I have made my christmas cakes, but I am going to have a go at this one.

No, just under the video in the description Kristen ☘️

Hi Chris,Thanks for your recipe. Can you tell me please how much flour you use?
240g. The recipe can be found under the video 😊☘️
Must try recipe please
Go for it. The recipe is in the description! 😊
Great cake Chris, thank you. Do I need to keep feeding it whiskey?
In the description, I believe he said he feeds it every two weeks - a total of four feeds before Christmas Day.
Why do you use the whisk & not the paddle to cream the butter sugar?
I couldn’t find it at the time but you can use both. I’ve made this cake with a paddle too ☘️
@ made the cake last night. Feed & wrapped up. Are you doing any icing on yours? Looking for a recipe for almond paste & royal icing. Can’t tolerate the shop bought fondant.
Yum
Thanks Eileen! 😊
Hi, do I use salted or non salted butter?
I used salted ☘️
Plus how far in advance did ya make it, and how many times did ya feed it the Jamesons please?
I made it on the 6th of November and fed it every 2 weeks 😊
Also, brown paper? Like what we used for covering our school books and copies back in the day? Or something else?
Evening Chris,
Technical question - if I was to make smaller individual ones, using your recipe, what heat/length of time do you recommend?
How long should I make the cake before the big day?
You can do it now. Preferably 2 months to a month before Damian ☘️
@@irishbakerabroad thanks
are you from county derry?
No I’m from Dublin ☘️
If I can't get Almond flour can I just use more of the other flour used?
(Saving this for next year now)
Or just use ground almonds or some breadcrumbs 😊
Hi, Chris just before I start can you confirm No baking powder or Baking soda? Thanks
Yes, no raising agents needed Donal ☘️
No need to use baking powder?
@@tessyjacob6260 Not necessary for this 😊☘️
