Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 To be honest 'Gimme Chocolate' would not be the first song I would recommend to someone for their first experience of BABYMETAL - it isn't a bad song and it is great fun at live shows (and you wouldn't believe the mosh pits it starts), but it can go either way - some people never get past that first "atatatatatatatata dokyun" and assume they are either a joke or a gimmick and never give them another chance. There is so much more to them - they do have other fun songs, but you will not find one quite the same and they have plenty more that are far more deep and meaningful and where the Metal and Pop elements (you were right, they have fused the two genres) are blended rather than clashing.
I will apologise now, this will be a long comment.
They are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and, since the start of April this year, Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in ... their role is just one of the things that makes them stand out from other bands and it is key to how they control audiences of thousands and have done so from a very early age. This concert (recorded December 2013) was the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday. Yuimetal and Moametal were both 14.
The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues.
After Yui left Su and Moa continued as a duo for the next 4 - 5 years through to their 10th anniversary in 2020 and a bit beyond, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns dancing in the third spot. Momoko was the only remaining Avenger from about March 2020 and was finally revealed as the official new third member on 1st April this year.
They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other musical styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. 'Gimme Chocolate' is one of their fun songs, they have many others which are a lot deeper - but nearly always positive.
BABYMETAL really are unique in that they invented their own genre and their own way of doing things. Do not try to categorise them as just one thing or to put them in any one box. You will not be able to predict them, just expect the unexpected. They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band (as you saw for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal ... something I absolutely never thought metal needed before I found them). Nobody has been able to do what BABYMETAL do (some have tried, none came close).
They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which was set up by the Amuse talent agency as a way to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management, TV presenting etc) with a view to their choosing how they would like to continue their career when they were at school leaving age (15 in Japan).
BABYMETAL was the pet project of one metalhead producer who was inspired to experiment with this fusion of Metal with JPop aesthetics after seeing Su-metal singing with her previous JPop trio and being very impressed with her no holds barred singing style and stage presence - she was only 10 or 11 at that time. He pictured her fronting a metal band and got his chance to work with her when her previous group ended and she joined Sakura Gakuin.
In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from Sakura Gakuin (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right.
You wondered had they progressed. I can confirm BABYMETAL have gone on to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (and have won international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Their big arena shows are spectacular, but they put on great shows every time, even in smaller venues and festivals as they tour the world where they can't always have all the special effects and flames etc too.
Early on they did not have enough budget for a live band and guys in skeleton suits (called Babybones) would go on stage just for show, miming the instruments to pre-recorded backing tracks (Su-metal's singing is always live). They were phased out bit by bit after it had been decided BABYMETAL would split from Sakura Gakuin, so a live band (I will tell you about them in a moment) played at a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows from October 2012. The last big concert where the Babybones appeared was called Legend 1997, it was in December 2013 - the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday (she was born in 1997, this was her birthday party and this was where 'Gimme Chocolate' was filmed) - the live band (the Kami Band) came on for the last 5 songs.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. There are many people who have played in the Kami Band as they all have their own bands or other commitments and they swap in and out depending on their availability, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians have played the vast majority of concerts and they are the ones you will see in most live performance videos.
The Kami Band became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions.
The Kami Band of the West - American musicians - have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019.
Their official videos are all very good and there are a couple that should almost be compulsory viewing, but BABYMETAL are best experienced live. Even they say so themselves.
For another reaction I would suggest their first major event outside of Japan, one of the biggest metal festivals in the UK - and they were placed on the main stage in front of 50-60,000 UK metalheads who didn't have a clue who or what they were (and a few that did had only seen the 'Gimme Chocolate' video and thought it was a joke or gimmick and should not be there so had threatened on social media to throw bottles of urine and boo them off stage ... fortunately neither happened).
They were aged 16 and just turned 15, in a foreign country where they didn't speak the language and had about 25 minutes, just 5 songs, to win this crowd over.
The last song of the set is 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (call it IDZ it means Bullying, No More, For Ever) live at Sonisphere UK 2014. You will hear what the crowd thought of them at the end.

Yes, it's possibly a good thing I came in via Distortion and then Karate because I'm not sure I would have gone down the fox hole if I heard Doki Doki Morning and Gimme Chocolate first. But like @minstrelblood9110 said in another comment, I can now appreciate this song thanks to AJ Hartley's discussion.

When BABYMETAL started they were pre-teen girls and the group's goal was to make metal music that young girls their age could relate to. So their earlier songs were about getting up to go to school (Doki Doki Morning), sleep overs (Uki Uki Midnight), a 15 year old going to her first metal concert (Headbanger), wanting chocolate but worried about weight (Gimme Chocolate), ant-bullying (Ijime, Dame, Zettai), etc. Even though the topics for were for young people, the music was still heavy AF! And of course, as they grew older their music and topics matured too.🤘🦊🤘

  • @road-runner
    @road-runner ปีที่แล้ว +18

Excellent first reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
Yep, the lyrics are plain simple: they want chocolate and they are a little worried about their weight but it's chocolate so who cares? 😁 And yes, the instrumentals are so freaking metal. And it's this juxtaposition the reason why this video went viral in 2014, helping them a lot to get recognized internationally at the right moment (just before their first world tour).
I like seeing the bands/groups evolving through the years. And BABYMETAL's case is incredible. This was already a big concert but they started performing in small venues and even malls (not joking). In 2014 they sold out two nights at one of the most (if not the most) prestigious venues in Japan, the Nippon Budokan. And two tears later, they performed another two back to back concerts at the freaking Tokyo Dome (Japan's biggest indoor stadium, with 55k seats).
A lot has happened since they started in 2010. One of their members had to leave due to health issues. One of their guitarists died in an accident while stargazing. They were forced to change their choreo and formation and several things didn't work. But they were able to overcome all those situations and now they are stronger than ever.
I second the suggestions for "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (Live at Sonisphere 2014). It's a more serious song and that particular gig was probably their most important moment ever.
But if you want to jump right away to present, it's also legit. So, "Mirror Mirror" is a great option.
    Until next time!
    🤘🦊

Hi, nice reaction! The statue on the background looks like Maria but is in fact Amaterasu, the Japanese Goddess of the Sun in Shinto mythology (the native Japanese religion). BABYMETAL references also a lot to another Japanese God: Kitsune, the Fox God. The handsigns at BM-concerts are for that reason a bit different from usual metal concerts in that they resemble a fox-head (in stead of the horn-sign). You will notice in many or their performances, most notably "Megitsune", one of the oldest and most famous songs. BABYMETAL is a lot of fun and high energy always!

well,grington300 summed up just about everything regarding their history. no real need to look further to find out what you need to know about that. you are exactly where i was 4 months ago. the first song of theirs i heard was "gimme chocolate" after seeing it suggested to another you tube reactor i watch. since then i've become pretty much obsessed with babymetal. i have a list of at least 20 favorites, and that's before really getting into the new album. i have tickets to see them for their final show of the upcoming u.s. tour (at the you tube theater appropriately),and i listen to and watch them every day. as grington300 has pointed out their story is fascinating, and really does parallel the beatles' story in some ways. they were extremely popular in their home country, and then went overseas to become an international phenomenon. their music has matured over the years. songs like "the one", "arkadia" and "monochrome" are as far removed from "gimme chocolate" as "love me do" was from "a day in the life". i'm sure you're going to get loads of suggestions,so i'll just say my most recent favorite (which changes about every week) is "akatsuki". there are quite a few videos of different performances of it on you tube. i've been watching the one from the fox festival 2017 a lot. the channel "for the fox god" has a wide variety of great live performances most with english subtitles. looking forward to what you choose next!

Thanks for the reaction. Honestly, you were a lot more open minded about seeing this vid for the first time than I was years ago. Also, if it seems ridiculous to mosh to Babymetal, watch their Road of Resistance live in Japan performance, you will change your mind. Subbed because I like your open minded attitude, and hopefully you will check out more Babymetal. You seem to like Su's voice, so you may like Babymetal a lot. People that don't like them often say the voices are too high pitched, but being older, I liked a lot of 80's bands with singers that sang high notes a lot like Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, and so on. So I liked her voice right away, and it didn't seem out of place with the metal sound to me.

To see their progression, start with their earliest songs, "Doki Doki⭐Morning", Uki Uki⭐Midnight" "iine!" and "Megitsune". Then watch "Ijime, Dame, Zettaii" live at Sonisphere 2014.
Then go back to 2013 for "Headbangereer!!!!", "Akatsuki (Unfinished version)" and Babymetal Death" all live at the Legend 1997 show (same show the Gimmi Chocolate video was taped).
Next would be "Road of Resistance Live in Japan" video.
"Amore" live at Wembley. (Babymetal was the first Japanese act to headline Wembley arena in 2014).
From there, you can bounce around between the first two albums "Babymetal" and "Metal Resistance" before heading in the third album "Metal Galaxy" and then finally the most recent 4th album "The Other ONE" (Babymetal's fanbase is called The ONE for reasons that will become apparent as you continue your journey down the Foxhole).

    @autohmae ปีที่แล้ว +34

Thanks for this reaction. You touched on a bunch of good points, much better than the average reactor, subscribed. Very, open-minded. Some would go as far as reject this as a joke.
If it is a joke, then they take their joke very seriously.
Babymetal definitely started out as 'fun-metal' and it has helped people with depressions, etc. An other theme Babymetal has always had is inspirational, so a good fit in that sense too.
Their are adults around them, which have a lot of experience who created this song. The lyrics are 'in their voices' aka something they would write.
Babymetal songs can have multiple interpretations. And one unpopular unconfirmed opinion from very small number of fans is that this has a WW II reference, the guns and onomatopoeia (gun sounds in Japanese) used in the lyrics suggest a maybe. The idea is that during the surrender of Japan the US soldiers had chocolate and the kids (especially orphans) were starving and asking the solders for chocolate: gimme choco. Lead singer Su-metal has said this song is about wanting chocolate, but worrying about weight. So this is the one we go with, nobody would question her of course. Let's just say the ladies in Babymetal, because of all the dancing, do not have to worry about their weight much. Probably why this is a touchy subject is because Suzuka/Su-metal is from Hiroshima, so their is always a WW II reference in that sense and people prefer it to be just a fun song. Maybe it's just a reference to Kanchō, which is a prank some kids do.
I can compare them to The Beatles a little bit or at least make some connections, Babymetal's first show which shows they 'made it big' is at the Budokan in Tokyo, Japan. This venue is famous, like Royal Albert Hall or Madison Square Garden. The Budokan is actually a sports venue, martial arts to be specific which usually has a stage in the middle, it was build for the Olympics of 1964. Who performed first there as a music act ? The Beatles in 1966. Babymetal performed there in 2014, got the record of youngest female act. Babymetal performed on TV in the US, where was their US TV debut ? Almost the same as The Beatles, who were on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Babymetal was on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in 2016, at the Ed Sullivan Theater.
The Beatles got known for their genre blending/experimentation, Babymetal is similar in that regard.
Babymetal has actually been at Abbey Road as tourists as part of their first world tour in 2014 to see/learn about musical history. Their is also a video online of them walking on the famous cross walk.
OK, this is probably where the connections end. 🙂

@@AxeSwipe2011when it comes to music coming out of Japan, especially how it relates to what appear to be the two most popular bands, I’ve always correlated BabyMetal to the Beatles and Band Maid to The Rolling Stones. BabyMetal is experimental and tries different sounds and genres, and Band Maid is more in-your-face rock ‘n roll. I don’t think BabyMetal and Band Maid see each other as rivals as much as the Beatles and Stones, even if it was a bit of a friendly push-each-other to top one another rivalry

The gun fingers are in fact exactly that, at the same time they are making gun noises atta tatta ta etc so they were indeed sticking up Su for the chocolate. You picked it well that this is jpop mixed with metal, you will see they find many interesting ways to combine these two genres, no two songs are alike and there are no filler songs each one of their songs has been well written produced and choreographed and their live performances are well above most other bands in quality and professionalism. I think this was one of the best reactions to this video I have seen, thank you! I worry a bit when this is the first someone watches, it gives a very stark representation of their mix of j-pop/metal/idol/kawaii(cute) and for some it turns to "nope" quickly from that version of shock. I look forward to watching as you continue!
I'm a huge fan of this band, they are just fantastic. You spoke of progression, if you are interested in that in a single shot you can check out versions of "headbanger". It's a staple and iconic song in their catalogue, telling the story of a 15yo girl going to her first heavy metal concert, and mixing her concerns and thoughts of the future with a love for heavy metal, that both her adult life and love of this music are taking off at the same time (very generally speaking). There is a version from when they are starting out at a very young age, performing for family and friends as part of Su-Metal (lead singer's) "graduation". Then a mix version that kicks off a massive concert which doubles as her 16th birthday, then a metal version at the same concert, then one from more recent shows with compilation of a few concerts. If this is interesting to you I'll reply with links - it is a fairly concise version of band growth. Otherwise (obviously) it's also even more fun just to find and watch their stuff starting with older moving on towards newer.
My top suggestion to most new fans is easily findable searching "babymetal road of resistance live in japan (official)". It's one of the best single song performances I've seen in any genre, and it is a real turning point for the band at around this same timeperiod. They get invited to play Budokan and are the youngest lead singers to ever do so, are the first band to play Wembley in the UK, win multiple national and international awards in their field (including locking down best live band for multiple years) before they are eighteen. They have only continued to improve their craft over time.

Great reaction! I'm glad you enjoyed Babymetal, they are an absolute musical treat. As you explore more Babymetal, you'll notice them transitioning from the "Cute Metal" when they were little children / mid-teans, to recently, a more mature version as young adults with a much better blended pop / metal sound. With that said, they definitely have some of their heaviest (also darker) songs in their early catalogue as well.
Babymetal's MO is always to be different, to push the envelope, and to experiement with Metal and genre mixing with Metal. So one can never full know what to expect from them, which is half the fun.
If you want to see a recent 2023 live performance, here's an excellent one of their song Monochrome: th-cam.com/video/2bQo7L7I3_o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rVPH4dnT3FT00BkW.

They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. • @Jordan-Ramses
    @Jordan-Ramses ปีที่แล้ว +29

The lyrics are a lot deeper than you think. But Babymetal avoids controversy and would never talk about it.
Babymetal is a fusion of Japanese Idol and Metal. They were the first to do that and invented their own subgenre of music. They are one of the most original groups ever.

    • @silly_programme5061
      @silly_programme5061 ปีที่แล้ว +3

As with any work of art, audiences can read interpretations into it that were never intended by the artist. To me, the attempts to link this song to post-WWII power dynamics between Japanese civilians and American soldiers smacks of the desire I've seen many times in new or casual Babymetal fans - wanting them to be 'more metal' by trying to make the topics of their songs more serious or "deep" like the topics traditionally covered by other metal bands.
What the people with this attitude have missed, in my opinion, is that Babymetal doesn't need to be like other metal bands. They don't need to be adult-oriented and serious and masculine. They are _more metal_ in rejecting the trappings of metal tradition and forging their own path, regardless of the hate it earned them.

    • @Jordan-Ramses
      @Jordan-Ramses ปีที่แล้ว

@@silly_programme5061 so how exactly do you think that you know what the artist intended? I never said what it meant. Don't put words in my mouth. I said the lyrics are deeper than people think. Knowing a little about Japanese songs the lyrics are probably thoughtfully ambiguous. A lot of Japanese songs talk about a subject without offering an opinion or have several possible interpretations.

    • @silly_programme5061
      @silly_programme5061 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Jordan-Ramses bro 💀 where did I say I know what they intended? I said "to me" and "In my opinion" rather than saying, to just pull a completely random example out of thin air, "The lyrics are a lot deeper than you think."

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥
It seems you already got all the info you need about this song and group in the comments, so I'm gonna save my wall of text coz I'm really late, but regardless as much info you see in the comments there's not enough comments to fill all the info you need to know about this amazing group and global phenomenon, that's why i will suggest some places where to get those basic info as well a bunch of recommendations where to get clips safe to react since Amuse, their agency, is a heavy blocked wall when it comes to their live performance, especially after 2015.
Don't worry, The Beatles reference is kinda accurate saving the difference but you will know in this journey that the UK is like their 2nd home after 2014 when performing in Sonisphere Festival.
So if you wanna meet a crazy mosh pit that should be a good start with:
    - "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 official.
    Or...
    - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official is another song to meet also the Kami Band and the real live sound.
Gimme Chocolate!! split the waters among fans as a first recommendation but either hate it or love it there's no doubt it got crazy amount of views and it's responsible of getting attraction from new fans all over the world the moment it was released.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time 🦊🤘🍫

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      th-cam.com/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/w-d-xo.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      th-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/w-d-xo.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/dU38CYkpBvI/w-d-xo.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      th-cam.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/w-d-xo.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      th-cam.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/w-d-xo.html
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/w-d-xo.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      th-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/w-d-xo.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      th-cam.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/w-d-xo.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      th-cam.com/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/w-d-xo.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      th-cam.com/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/w-d-xo.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      th-cam.com/video/ESzY9dL613Q/w-d-xo.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      th-cam.com/video/1dT1ywYR5So/w-d-xo.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      th-cam.com/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/w-d-xo.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      th-cam.com/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/w-d-xo.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      th-cam.com/video/M8FKumvh-w8/w-d-xo.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      th-cam.com/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/w-d-xo.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      th-cam.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/w-d-xo.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      th-cam.com/video/gDne0xwniTg/w-d-xo.html
There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.🦊🤘

This was a very attentive, thoughtful and open minded reaction. Better than most reactions to this song I have watched, and I watched a lot. Your remarks on bands progressing, the Beatles and the girls beeing the selling point were pretty spot on.
The guys in sceleton suits are actually only pretending to play instruments, as the band could not afford to hire real musicians at the time. The girls performend to preproduced tracks put together by their producer. Soon after the label behind the project realized the potential, they decided to put money into the band and hired first class session musicians for the live shows. This so called Kami band sometimes gets a moment in the spotlight where its members can display their skills with insane solos either inside the song or as an intro. They are kind of replacable but then they are not. Some of the early Kamis are known to have had an important impact on the musical development of Babymetal, and some claim that the death of their long time lead guitarist in 2018 changed the music that came afterwards.
You expressed a desire to see how they matured. My favourite "grown up" Babymetal song is "Kagerou", the theme beeing jealousy. The choreography is very metal, powerful and cool. The song is already three or four years old by now, but the performance is a far cry from the small girls in red tutus. Look for a live version or compilation with Kami intro; there are a number of those here on YT.

Babymetal was formed around the vocal talent and stage-presence of the lead singer, Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto). She has been singing professionally since she was 9. If you like her voice in this studio audio track video, you will probably love the live recordings as they are generally not processed. And their story of progression musically has been wonderful, with Su-'s voice, talent, and skill very much a part of that progression. As another fan was fond of saying: Always more Babymetal, forever!

Babymetal is a band of layers, On one layer they want chocolate, on another layer they have hands like guns to show they feel under attack to maintain a certain body image. On another layer in Japan girls are required to hand out chocolate to male coworkers on Valentine's Day. They call this obligation chocolate, giri choco. This song is gimi choco, it was released for Valentine's Day 2014, and their not giving the chocolate away, they're keeping it. So you can enjoy the band at the surface level, the frivolity and joy, or dig in and understand what their message is. Not all of their songs make social commentary, but many do.

Well, it looks like Grington covered everything so there's little I can add although I do think you hit the nail on the head about BABYMETAL making metal fun . . . or, at least they did. Nevertheless, BABYMETAL has only a bit over sixty songs and you're sure to find most of them quite entertaining. I will be the first to agree with the One that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they have several music videos that are real works of art and definitely worth looking into (“Doki Doki Morning”, “Iine!”, “Megitsune”, “Karate”, and “BxMxC”. In my opinion, those are BABYMETAL’s best MV’s - so far!).
I've compiled what I consider to be BABYMETAL's top twenty songs/videos here on TH-cam; it contains both live performances and the above mentioned music videos. I sincerely hope that you consider reacting to them all (except "Gimme Chocolate!!" - one down, nineteen to go) th-cam.com/play/PLdhz2aj0pt4zPl0BZLevPUR9uHKQA27uj.html
Consider it a road map for your journey down the foxhole. I recommend that you start at the top of the list and work your way down: it starts with the very first MV they did (2012) and moves forward to 2019. I should mention that I cannot guarantee that reacting to these videos won't be blocked but with some creative editing that shouldn't be a problem.
BABYMETAL recently released their fourth album “The Other One”. I would strongly recommend that you react to their earlier work before delving into this last album: in my opinion, the contrast is striking.
Finally, I suggest that you avoid compilation and fancam videos like the plague: compilation videos are, in my opinion, an insult to both the viewer and the band; the music is certainly overdubbed, and the changes in venue and costumes (sometimes even personnel) can be confusing if not completely annoying. You won't be reacting to BABYMETAL, you'll be reacting to a highlight reel of BABYMETAL. And fancams generally have terrible quality and sound thus being basically a waste of time.
    Sorry about the wall!
Enjoy your trip down the foxhole! (You're in for a wild ride!!!)

    1. Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro Budokan live (you'll probably like this the most out of all the popular recommendations, highlights the kami band behind the girls the best, invite only arena, Ozzy played here back in the day)

2nd month for me going down this fox hole with reaction videos being a fave. You immediately saw the singer's tone which I missed initially perhaps being distracted by the show. So, a suggestion if you want to see their 'progress.' Assume they continue have good metal and a show, they do, but go for a video from the youtube channel The First Take and the song Monochrome. It's stripped of the 'show' like the original MTV Unplugged- but oh what a show it is. I've not seen a reactor take the leap from their first big international hit to this mature stunning performance. Think of going from Love Me Do to Harrison doing Here Comes the Sun solo. Subscribing to see where you go next.

Here we go. Another victim smacked in the face by three kawaii girls.
Starting off with a lyric quote from Dio. Nice!
Here we get a song about girls liking chocolate but afraid to gain weight.
That's a far cry lyrically from Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath.
But it's soooo much fun. This is the perfect introduction to Babymetal. Most people get their intro from this song. The unsuspecting throngs have mostly been smacked in the face and love it so much we keep coming back for more.
Great reaction. Moametal (stage right) and Yuimetal (stage left) were born July 4 and June 20 1999. Su-metal (center) was born Dec 20 1997. In concept this makes Moa and Yui the younger twin sisters Su being the big sister. Note Su's attitude of annoyance at the beginning of the song as Moa and Yui sing until she breaks out as lead vocals and dances. Later in the song they do a Fox God hand sign. You'll learn about the Fox God as you explore the band.
At this time the backing band was called the Baby Bones Band. Later it would become the Kami Band or Gods of Metal interchangeably.
Babymetal is a subunit of music school Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy) for middle schoolers. All three girls where in main unit and performed as part of Sakura Gakuin and also members of other sub units. Their story is quite inspirational.
You could actually compare another Japanese band to The Beatles. That would be Band-Maid. There is a female band comparable to Iron Maiden Lovebites. These two bands and many others are made up of ultra-talented musicians and singers.

It is a shame that so many reactors first experience with BabyMetal is Gimme Chocolate.
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old iifriends and classmates who attended an idol school/group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.

Great reaction !!!!!! You might want to check out the video of Baby Metal doing Gimme Chocolate live on the Steven Colbert show, it has pretty good sound quality. The song is really indicative of J-pop influences combined with heavy metal sounds. Their early songs were more younger-oriented possibly because of their age. Doki Doki Morning, Iine (not line, it's pronounced "ee-ney"), Kimi To Anime Gitai, Catch Me If You Can, Megitsune, Ijime Dame Zettai and a few others. When "Headbanger" was released it was like the heavy curtain crashed down, lol. I would suggest that you react to "Headbanger live at the 2013 Legend 1997 concert". To me it's the best live version of the song. There is so much great music to process, enjoy.
On another note, you are a veteran rocker as I am. I'm 76 and have pretty much seen it all from Joey Dee and the Starliters to Baby Metal and Band Maid. Japan has produced a huge amount of great music in the rock category that has pretty much died here in the States. That goes double for all-female bands, which were very popular at one time. There are almost 20 excellent all-female bands right now that produce fantastic quality music. Band Maid, Gacharic Spin, Nemophila, SCANDAL, Lovebites, Aldious, Doll$Box and a host of others. In fact, I think 2023 has seen more Japanese bands touring here in the US than ever before and they have been sellouts in every city. Band Maid, who I think you should take a serious look at, was here twice this year, in May and August, after a sold-out 20 date US Tour last year. They are the real deal. That brings me to a group named Glim Spanky, who have resurrected classic blues rock, like Blood, Sweat and Tears pre-David Clayton-Thomas when Al Kooper was still involved, and the Al Kooper's Blues Project. It consists of vocalist/guitarist Remi Matsuo and guitarist Hiroki Kamemoto, and they use session musicians for their videos and live performances. Remi has a voice very reminiscent of Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and Bonnie Raitt. Just check out their live video of "Circle of Time" from their 2020 TH-cam livestream concert. The reason I bring them up is that you mentioned The Beatles, and they are the inspiration for Glim Spanky, but more like the Rubber Soul album. You will not be disappointed.

This is a kind of a right of passage, and while they have since eclipsed this several times over. It is where many of us started out. At present, Babymetal is celebrating their 10th, although technically, 13th Anniversary.
Where they are preparing for their US tour with Dethklok and Jason Richardson. Babymetal has also had some pretty amazing collaborations over the years.
From DragonForce with Road To Resistance. To Arch Ememy Allisa White-Gluz with Distortion. To Bring Me The Horizon with Kingslayer.
Which BM is also preparing for a tour festival with soon. Babymetal just released their 4th album, "The Other One," over the summer. Which is definitely worth checking out as well.
However, if there is one performance that exemplifies Babymetal at it's best. "Rondo Of Nightmare" Mischiefs Of Metal Gods (Live at Budokan Black Night) is it!! Welcome to the foxhole!! 🤘🎸🦊🔥

While Kei Kobayashi denies it, I think the guns might be a veiled reference to WW2. The phrase "gimme choco" is one children said to the allied occupiers after they surrendered. I remain somewhat convinced that there is *some* link to that, even though they deny it. It would be a very Japanese thing to avoid controversy that way.
