- In this video I will show you how to replace a worn out Pfister single handle shower cartridge. This is a common failure component after many years of use. The issue can be a leaking shower or lack of hot or cold water. The replacement procedure is not difficult and can be done with some basic hand tools.

My Compliments. Our 1940 home was renovated about 20 years ago and just recently the shower/tub has been acting up. Suddenly we were scalding ourselves in the shower and got no cold water. After researching I learned of the valve cartridge that needs to be replaced; haveing an old Pfister assembly your video gave me exactly the directions, step by step, thoroughly and precisely the way I needed. I am no plumber but handy enough: I had shop in 7th and 8th grades - yes I'm that old.). Thanks for a good job and saving us retired folk a bundle on a plumber. (No offense plumbers you deserve your wage, but some of these tasks are beneath you!) LOL.
Excellent video❤
hmm...the white plastic ring at 0:57, for me it's on the other end, touching the big round metal plate. And the collar it's on faces the other way.
How can you tell what model cartridge you have? That’s my big problem I don’t know which one to get.
Great vid thx! If we have a main water shutoff in the house that should be enough yeah? No need to go to the street?
Yes, as long as the water is turned off.
I have fister valve and can't remove it. It is very similar to this shower handle in the video. I turn it counter clockwise and then it gets stuck and can't turn anymore. I feel if I force it with a monkey wrench or regular wrench I might break it. What else can I do? Thank you for the video.
Do they make repair kits with gaskets & "O"-rings?
Hello, I was replacing my shower cartridge, but I dropped the black plastic ring show around 1:33. I couldn't find any replacement parts for this, so I wanted to ask if this is an important part of the faucet that I would have to replace.
The black cover is on the other side and I can’t fit it out of the hole any suggestions 1:39
Maybe they tiled over the fixture making it difficult to remove. You might want to try using a Dremel drill with a cutting wheel to trim the edges all around.
I did these steps exactly and now my faucet is leaking from the handle - From the white valve extension
I installed my new cartridge exactly as shown in the video but now the hottest my water gets is warm and at max hot, the water temp drops back to luke warm/colder. I've already adjusted the anti scald as far as it would let me and all other fauces and showers get hot besides this one. Is it possible the brand new cartridge is defective?
Take the handle off. On the front of the valve, you should see a black thing on the bottom that you can turn. That is the temperature control and is set that way from the factory for safety. So you will need to set it to the hottest setting or whatever you want to make it confortable for you
Which handles are compatible with this cartridge?
What size screws are those
I opened mine and it does not have the black plastic ring but it has the screw holes. Is this normal? Thanks.
Yes that's fine. Perhaps yours didn't come with one.
