Dwight Qawi, the shortest cruiserweight world champion ever indeed is a great example of that size don't always matter in boxing. Chris Byrd was also a fine example. Originally a middleweight, who after his Olympic silver in 1992 decided to become a heavyweight when turning PRO. Why? Partly because the money was better there, but mostly because Byrd always felt more natural boxing bigger men in the ring. And with Byrd's great defense and counter-boxing skills allong with fast hands was all enough for Byrd to become a 2-time world HW title champion, despite he was really a blown-up middleweight!
That 7ft1 guy. I'm cut from the same cloth as the Thomas hearns and the Marvis haglers,... Me. Sure you are mate as Marvis haglers must be some new boxer on the scene.
Joe Rogan actually asked Mike Tyson if Fury was the best HW of all time and both contemplated seriously. 😂 Mike found peace, in the 80s he would swing at Joe for asking
Are Larry Holmes and Ali “little guys”? Bc Usyk is literally the exact same height. And fights a little heavier than them and Foreman in their prime. If we’re talking “little guys” of the modern era, David Tua is the only answer. Tyson works too but he always seems smaller on the ring, Tua fights in a way that makes you forget he’s giving up so much reach. On that note it must be stated you overlooked the Tyson vs Ribalta fight while a shame bc it was the defining fight he needed in his early career when he was at his most poised and prepared he’d ever be. Jose, one of 3 brothers oddly with the same name, towered at the 6’6 mark and absorbed probably the most damage I’ve ever seen in my life. I have no clue what Jose had for dinner vs Tyson that night but it was the best single display of a chin in one fight that i can recall. And he could box having beaten Spinks and IMO he won both the Holmes and Dokes fights.
Usyk's size appearance is odd. Many many of the presenters and commentators will say "oh.. he's actually a lot taller than I thought'. He seems to have the build, the 'shape' of a man you'd think is 5'10, maybe 6ft tall? but he's a pretty well measured 6'3. This squares with *most opponents claimed height. *tyson fury has grown from 6'6 to at one point 7ft tall so... who knows The other thing worth mentioning is Usyk is a damn lean 222lbs and there is no bulk muscle or fat on him. that said, he's also fought 'lean machines' like AJ (i think 255 2nd bout?) and Dubois (240?). Tyson Fury actually did look damn good vs Usyk1 at like 262? But to the point, Usyk isn''t small. on a level canvas, wearing flat boxing boots, while AJ is obviously bigger - the difference isn't some insane 'david vs goliath' and while one may be crouching and another straight there are angles where Usyk seems 'bigger' at least across the chest and shoulders. Dubois was light at 233 vs Usyk but you don't really notice any special size difference. and think of all the talk pre-Fury1. People were talking as if this was an insane 'david vs goliath' (this was used frequently) and how a human giant couldn't just hurl him around etc etc, the 'Size difference battle' and YES there was, but, Almost from the face-off the story is really more about fury's height. his weight, his size wasn't really talked about much and soon after the height story dissipated and it was 'Fury's long arms'. once into the fight you realized Usyk wasn't THAT much smaller. Its not some crazy Valuev vs Haye level.
The thing about power is that it has diminishing returns once you get at 200LBS.. A heavyweight can gain 10, 20, 30 , 40 LBS and that wont increase his power nor his durability that much... it also decreases stamina and speed immensely as well and the trade of for just a miniscule of power is just not worth it... go watch the strongman fight between eddie hall and haftor.. you can see their punches from a mile away.. a 200LB C class pro boxer could pick them apart and threw 3 combo of punches against them because they are that slow !!! and they are gassed by round 2 or 3 which is funny to watch😅 If you can increase your power infinitely.. then obese people or strong men competitors who weigh 300 to 400LBS would be the heavyweight champions, but they're not. The best size will always be 220LBS, 6'2 like Ali or Usyk... its just the perfect blend for speed, power, stamina, reach
With skill, power, speed, chin, stamina, pressure, ring smarts and sheer determination you can overcome a lot of size limitations. I'm willing to bet Gervonta Davis would put the average non-fighting 250 lbs man on the canvas at will.
I never thought of 6'3" 225 pound men as being little. That's more than enough size to get the job done if a boxer has the requisite skills like Usyk has. Hell, if anything Fury probably needed to shed 20 pounds.
Laws Of Physics: Square Cube Law. As your volume increases your skin surface area increases exponentially. That puts massive load on cardio. That's how size matters.
What does Fundora eat? Grass only? How the hell do you manage to get down to light middleweight at 6ft 6. His bones must be made of marshmallow or polystyrene.
its how you use your size, it goes both ways. frazier gave ali fits cause he fought low, he used his short height to duck underneath ali's jab so ali couldn't get a bead on him
Frazier ducked and Ali caught him there after seeing the trend/style esp during the round. Not unlike Tyson much later a short, powerful shot that really connected. Just lucky? We had yet to learn what he would prove to the World.
Been a fan of Usyk since his Olympic win and before he was a known name. He's technique is on another level. Fury IS big... but, he's convinced himself that he's a better "boxer" than he actually is. I'm not saying he's a bad boxer... I'm just saying he's not elite from a technical point of view. Fury has a great chin... he has an other worldly ability to absorb the punishment and keeps thinking... but, some of that is balanced out by his cocky, showboater attitude, which certainly cost him in the first fight. Is Fury capable of reeling in his personality and focusing on the fight? Usyk has won gold at the European, World and Olympic levels... Tyson's success was at the junior level, with a gold at the national level. Usyk had a long impressive amateur record with over 300 wins... Fury's amateur career was just over 30 wins. Long amateur careers are the norm with European fighters... with British and American fighters tending to go professional early. Usyk needs to avoid walking into those upper cuts that Fury had success with in the first fight... he got stung at least 3 times by them and any one of them could have been a game changer. Fury needs to clinch more and take advantage of his size to wear Usyk down in the early rounds. It'll be interesting to see what changes they make and if they have been able to identify something new to target. Anything could happen in the ring... but, it'd be a bad bet to bet against Usyk. He destroyed all comers in cruiser weight. And, he remains undefeated at heavyweight. There's a clear disparity in experience and technique in the ring. As far as the weight/size difference goes, Fury seems to have slimmed down a bit for the second fight. I'd suggest that is a good decision... but, I don't think it's going to make a genuine difference to his speed in the ring... I think it's probably more a case of him having worked on his cardio and endurance. Ring IQ is even... Fury is good at taking his time, figuring out what is happening and making changes in the ring. Usyk has a deep bag of tricks to draw from and has been coached by Lomachenko's dad since he was a junior.
What's more ironic, Mike Tyson isn't even as tall 5' 11", he's 5' 10" maximum. Size definitely is not the be all; Usyk has proved that on more than one occasion.
To be honest, it depends how you use your size to your advantage, look at a fighter like Lennox Lewis, watch him against David Tua and then see if size wasn't a factor in that fight.
I really like watching Sebastian Fundora but he scares me, he’s so tall and skinny that it always feels like he can get slept with one well placed shot.
Comparing all the tall boxers of the video to Fury it’s simply unfair , Fury is unique and Usyk unique as well , kudos to Usyk for the first win but it was a close fight I guess . Looking forward for the second and may the best man win 🥇
I hope there's no controversy in this Fury-Usyk fight because if Fury wins we get a rematch and if Usyk wins he cements himself as the best heavyweight of this era bar none.
Usyk is actually more muscular than Fury and fitter, too. Fury might be larger but he's mostly flab. Usyk is built like a rock, he's probably stronger than Fury.
“In a game of millimetres, the inches matter” … I keep telling my wife this.
Lol
Usyk 6' 3" 223 lbs with 78" reach.

Tyson 5' 10" 218 lbs with 71" reach.
Tua 5' 10" 235 lbs with 71" reach.

Really impressed with this vid. Usually you see ones this long and they are LOADED with filler..not the case here, very nice and well done.
best david and goliath match I've seen is Pacquiao vs Margarito
Usyk had a higher mountain to climb against Fury.
@@paoloalcantara2465 Absolutely, with the height and weight difference against Fury it's like watching a flyweight taking on a middleweight.

sometimes being the smaller guy can give you an advantage
Lol no, being smaller you always compensate with something else, in boxing you compensate with superior skills.
Fury cant take it that a small man beat him😂😂😂
Usyk is 6ft 3in over 100kg he is not a small man. Small men cannot compete with Elite heavyweights end of size mattress.
