The current movie draft was in production around the same time Minecraft Legends was in development, leading them to borrow ideas. It’s still mostly based off the base game, otherwise we wouldn’t see stuff like mining trees and crafting.
If the movie was aimed at “all generations” then why not do animation? Kids love animation! And so do adults. Why make it live action if it was aimed at a younger demographic? That doesn’t make sense.
Like for real, we already got the template for this out of the LEGO Movie. Animated with a plot and premise that actually respects both the younger and older fans of LEGO. Or, hell, even Minecraft Story Mode was more respectful to the general fanbase despite being a dumpster fire lol.
I'mma be honest, you'd be surprised by the number of adults who will refuse to give something a chance on the sole basis that it's animated. Not saying that it shouldn't have been animated, just saying, "so do adults" is only true to an extent.
He shouldve played the wither, or the ender dragon Wither couldve been british old man and the ender dragon either feminine voice or jack black. Why couldnt they make it a musical?
I showed my 11yo the trailer. She cringed, laughed in horror, and said she didn't want to see it. She and I have been playing minecraft together for 5 years. She should be target audience. She hates it already.
i don't know who would like it , the only reason jack black is remotely right about the new generation watching it is because 2 year old's cant tell a good movie , as in i think the only people who are gunna like it are small children , so young they cant tell the if a movie is terrible

That's what I been saying! We were TOLD that Jack was going to VOICE Steve, Not live action him. -__- I feel like we all got spat on.
The difference between the Sonic movie and Minecraft movie is that the Sonic movie was mostly live action with Sonic himself being most of the cgi, but in the Minecraft movie, the whole world is cgi. They don't have time to fix this, so it will remain ugly
They fixed Sonic with no issues & they thanked the fans for it; Disney & Warner Brothers need public relation managers & specialists to reverse backlash instead of expecting this kind of viral marketting to succeed
With all due respect, Jack Black should keep his mouth shut. He even admitted himself that he hasn’t played the game in years so he should DEFINITELY take the advice from people who have.
Exactly, him saying "for new generation". Oh the new generation that know nothing of Minecraft yet but some who knows it cuz of some Minecraft vets like Technoblade (peace be upon him) , DanTDM and many more. @@Pulowski Well true but it should at the very least be respected as a childhood classic that even people who don’t play anymore should be able to enjoy. Minecraft is just one of those timeless games.
As a grown man, I'd personally prefer that the new generation gets films and shows that are at minimum decent and not just cash grabs. You'd think Hollywood would have learned from the 3 decades' worth of failed video game movies.
As a kid I watched movies with deep and emotional stories that were still something kids could watch and enjoy. And now they think movies with deep or emotional stories are only for adults and kids can only watch movies that focus on jokes and being stupid to be "fun".
As I kid I cried at plenty of films that were scary, but I’ll never forget the first time I cried at a movie because it was genuinely emotional. It was when I watched Inside out for the first time in theaters, over 9 years ago. It’s still my favorite Pixar movie to this day. Kids deserve better
They just want to show they produced something with the budget maybe, as long as it all can sound good on paper, the shareholders will be fed something acceptable/satisfying
At this point, if ur gonna watch it at least pirate it. Ik it’s wrong but these big companies need to start realising how powerful their audience is and they can’t just ram this crap down our throat.
Fr I was so confused and not vibing with jack black as steve when i saw the real trailer but after seeing a fully animated fanmade edit my opinion completely 180'd. Hearing jack blacks voice coming out of the steve model actually feels pretty alright.
@@0ceanking I'm telling you just putting Jack Black as a voice actor? That's more than good enough. In fact honestly he just fits more to be a voice actor. Best example? Po.
@@0ceanking Jack black actually narrated the main character (Steve) in the Minecraft novel: The Island. Hearing his voice an animated Steve would be pretty interesting and a nice easter egg. Jack Black's responses to the backlash are immature considering he didn't make the movie he just acted in it (he could at least pretend to be on the hate train or say he just did it for the money)
Jack Black's terrible response of the backlash is a solid example of why you should never let fame go around your head. Just because he's successful at other movies like Kung Fu Panda, Mario movie, even Jumanji (even if it's cheesy af), he has no right to insult the fans who criticize the trailer.
He's so used to be loved by everyone that when the film he's casted in gets backlash, he takes it very personally. You can't just expect people to love you all the time
I'm not a minecraft person, but I feel it's safe to say that we're done with hybrid movies. After Spider-verse, the world wants fully-animated adaptations. We know it can be done well.
Does anyone else think this movie has too many main characters? I mean, why can't we just have the two main iconic characters, Steve and Alex, lead the movie?
I am so DONE with this “blame the fans” garbage from the hyperwealthy Hollywood glitterati! Keep your wallets in your pockets and maybe someday someone will get the message.
"blame the fans" ??? If they have to blame the fans because they decided not to make a good adaptation, they simply don't even have enough faith in their own project to make the movie appeal to fans.
@@TheMineproKidThat's right they don't, because Wb is only doing this to exploit the current video games theme going on in the movie industry In their dreams they would have made this movie if sonic and Mario movie failed

It's actually really funny when someone uses this exact argument just to not pay attention to the actual problem of why is a problem in the first place It reminds me the many many "reviewers" of kid animated series that use this exact argument with a bad series, not trying to understand why is a problem in the first place. Manchild behavior
Black needs to understand that there will still obviously be human voices and human characters (as in animated humans). It’s not that deep or important to make it live action. People will be excited to know his presence in a film and that doesn’t have to mean it has to actually show him as a live actor. They don’t need that to gain everyone’s attention when it’s the fucking Minecraft movie for crying out loud. Also, I’m pretty sure even more people will end up watching it if they did fix it which would make them even more successful
Listen, i love Jack Black as a actor but I'm honestly baffled that he thinks that his role as Steve in the Minecraft movie is the best thing to ever happen since sliced bread, you can't call just wearing a blue shirt and calling yourself "Steve Minecraft" is a true work of art that deserves to be displayed inside a world famous museum for everyone to admire, and no amount of musical talent that he has can save this already dumpster fire of a movie. Note: Apparently what he said is not even real at all.
They honestly should have made it a 1980s dark fantasy type film. Hello there animations made a Minecraft trailer in this style, and it looks sooo good.
@@MoopersYT I can't think of a single movie that has come out in the last 20 years that even BEGINS to compare to old-school Disney films. Lion King, Hercules, Aladdin, Fox and the Hound, the list goes on and on. All of those movies provided very child-appropriate stories but ALSO very powerful moral lessons as well. They were so much more than just "haha funny joke, isn't this funny, you like minecraft, right?" Pretty much every major kid movie from the 90s and early 00s always came paired with a good moral lesson tied in with it. Whether it was Karate Kid, the Orignal Jumanji movie, Matilda, The Mighty Ducks, The Land Before Time, or whatever movie you can think of, it almost always had at least some undertones of mature morals to teach you. And perhaps most of all: They were original stories. Not just trying to cash in on a fad. Now... the industry just tries to slap a title on whatever they think kids are into nowadays in hopes that it will sell. Skibidi Toilet movie, prime example.
Another commenter has pointed out this entire video may be faked though, there aren’t even any sources indicated and I can’t find any article saying what was claimed here.
I will still watch it, just wont pay to see it. My kids have played minecraft for years and they still are interested. I never judge a movie by its trailer since I have been let down by awesome trailers and I have also been surprised with trash trailers.
„It’s for a new generation“ That doesn’t mean that the old generation that actually grew up with the source material can’t complain about a shitty cashgrab movie 💀
they better type /kick @s cause if they just left the internet along with their shitty ass movie then we would be as happy as ever coping like this is the equivalent of "we will survive" despite being out of food and water with no roof under your head they should just cancel the movie in the first place
"Modern audiences" is just a codeword for "rubes who don't know the source material". Like anybody that thinks it's shit is non-modern, living in some ancient cave somewhere. There used to be a time where there was just "the audience" and that was it. But then Hollywood went complete moron and decided good movies are bad, and bad movies are good. And so they twist the narrative arround the movies failing: it's because of the audience not being "modern" - it afcourse has nothing to do with their piece of trash movie being shit. The good part about all this is it doesn't work like that. This movie is going to bomb and they're going to lose their ass. And Jack Black, instead of shutting his face and letting this run out, decides to insult the audience and ruin his reputation. The people he's trying to defend are the people that will stop hiring him eventually, which makes him even more of an idiot. Let it go, Jack. Move onto the next thing.
Yeah and the Sonic team listened to their fans and changed Sonic's look in order to look more like his in-game version. They recognized their mistake and fixed it, these idiots here accuse the Minecraft fans of being wrong, they don't accept to change or fix anything. They cannot understand that this will be their loss
Yeah, even if they wanted to "fix" this movie now, they can't. Not without scrapping the whole thing and starting over. Which makes me even more convinced they're going to double down, if for no other reason then because of the sunk-cost fallacy.
i reckon Minecraft movie will be good. And also I don't agree that minecraft should be "aimed" at adults; yes it should be bearable, as in nothing too cringy and so on, but still it should be aimed at kids (like the mario movie), as it is a PG game, and it wouldn't make sense to make it more serious than that. For me, I will consider the movie to be good if it follows two things - if it is iconic, and the plot is entertaining. What i mean by iconic is that it shouldn't be some arbitrary villain like Wither Storm (I do like minecraft storymode btw) but something that is actually in the original game lore. It should stick to its core values like mining and creating, which is what made Minecraft as minecraft. The trailer focuses a lot on showing how it sticks to these values, and proves that it will potentially be iconic. For the plot, we don't know anything but there are potentially intriguing dynamics such as Steve upsetting the piglins, which Movie Theorists (channel) covered. In conclusion, we don't know how the movie will go; it really can be a good movie for all we know. I feel like Jack Black is totally correct in saying that people will be inclined to criticize it, given how big of a game it is. I feel that all the criticism is coming from confirmation bias - people see immediately that the CGI is disturbing and build negative thoughts based on that. However, I will add that I think that the CGI will be something alarming at first but the audience eventually be accustomed to it, so I don't see it as a bad decision to make minecraft a live-action.
These actresses/actors need to understand that responding to online hate most times is a bad idea. Of course is not easy to ignore, but the internet is ruthless, the more you care about, the more people will hate.
Having millions of people abuse you.. I can't imagine never slipping up, they're just as human, and regardless, JB isn't smothering it in what happened with snow white talks, so I'd say he's handling it better than Miss Z did. They'd understand hate online more than anyone.
But you also have to remember the hard work they must have poured into this. So it makes sense for them to feel a little on the defensive side. Especially when people are shutting it down without even giving it a chance. Sure, an animated MC is what we prefer, and we may get one in the future. But can’t we just enjoy a live action MC. It could be decent.
@@whereaboutsunknown3822 Some scenes showcased in the teaser are funny, but the premise of this film is one of the worst so far. The plot seems like a rip-off of Jumanji with added brain rot. The foreign-language dubbing in the teaser is embarrassing (with “such a toolbag” translated literally, at least in Italian). Returning to the plot, given the endless possibilities of Minecraft, it could have been literally anything. Additionally, the movie doesn’t represent Minecraft at all. I understand the heavy use of CGI (even though they could have taken an approach similar to that used in Minecraft’s release trailers), but most of what is seen in the movie isn’t even in the game. Realistic windmills, a horde of piglins flying with ghasts (even if it’s cool), and the overall landscape (which looks like it’s from some strange mod + the blocks are all of different sizes)….. Plus, part of the plot seems to come from Minecraft Legends, which feels odd since that game was a total flop. They can’t expect to have a good reaction from fans just because they say, ‘Hey there! Here’s the Minecraft movie!’ (even though the only positive reviews are for this exact reason, from people who like the game and want to see a movie adaptation regardless of whether it’s good or not). Throwing in random famous actors like Jack Black or Jason Momoa won’t save it either. If all these points are accurate, Warner Bros can only hope to minimize the damage or hope people watch it simply for the novelty of a Minecraft movie. But don’t take my words the wrong way. Maybe this movie has a different plot (though it’s unlikely) and turns out decent. Still, the chances are probably below 5%
Jack got paid to defend the film. Movie stars are paid for post production. Side character no. 5 with no career isn't gonna try as hard to salvage a disaster

I hate when someone says, "Well it's for young children!" or "It's for a new generation!" That's an excuse: it should be for everyone, it should be for the community. It should appeal to the new fans, but to the old ones as well who been there since the beginning and grew up alongside the game. Minecraft is special to many of us, it was a piece of our generations childhood and now it's a piece of a new generations childhood. Why so rude man ? Imagine you have made this movie and people say this . Would you love to go bankrupt bcoz people didn't even watch your movie and made their opinion ??
I disagree with your statement that the movie should be for the adults and I also disagree with Jack's comment on "You are not the target audience", it should be for everyone , minecraft is the most sold videogame in history, everyone has played it from every range of ages, it is literally a game made for everyone where the only limit is the player's imagination. It should not be "for ONE group of people" it should be for ALL people, kids, teens and adults.
Playing Devil's advocate here, but I think they should reconsider their target audience, not just broaden it to literally everyone. After all, if I remember correctly, "If you appeal to everyone, you'll appeal to no one." The target audience shouldn't be kids, but Minecraft fans themselves.
They just dont understand that us, adult and teenagers are the ones who grew up with this game, this should be for us, and im not saying it shouldnt be for kids, i think theres movies where it can be enjoyed by kids, teens and adults, this does NOT looks like one of those movies
I agree, minecraft is literally a game for everyone where the only limit is the player's imagination. It should not be "for ONE group of people" it should be for ALL people, kids, teens and adults.
I think even transformers one is a movie that everyone can watch. It's got animation, so it's less scary for the kids, and it's got a couple adult jokes and also some of the original 1985 transformers feel in it. A perfect example
not to mention that gen alpha is raised on ytkids which are filled with ANIMATION, i repeat ANIMATION!! like yeah, sure dude they'd definitely love live action amirite???
The Lego movie had a target audience for kids but it was made to also appeal to people of all ages because that's what Lego is all about. Even cartoons like MLP:FiM and Bluey followed this philosophy as well. They didn't dumb things down, they respected their target audience and you can tell the amount of love and care put into the shows. So the whole "It's a kid movie and so it's only meant for kids" argument isn't an excuse for such a poor attempt for a videogame adaptation, especially for a game that's been a staple for so many people's childhoods.
From his Bowser interview, Jack Black admitted that he doesn't act as the character. He acts as Jack Black. So Steve isn't actually Steve in that movie. It's Jack Black.
also, the detective pikachu movie was really good. :]. it handles creature design really good. like the pokemon is still recognisable (doesn't look jarring), just added that realistic cg to it (tho some look better than others)
Reasons why I do not support this movie: -That's not Steve, that's just Jack Black in a blue shirt -Sheep, llama, all the mobs fall into the same uncanny valley as Movie Sonic's original design. -It's yet another isekai movie where people get thrown into a "different world" *cough cough Mario Movie cough Jumanji* -"MINECRAFT IN 2030" ahh graphics -Where's Alex? -If we wanted new people to add besides just Steve and Alex, why not use existing skins like Zuri, Sunny, Kai, Ari? -HOW THE FUCK ARE PIGLINS IN THE OVERWORLD? -Assuming these piglins are supposed to be main villains like they look to be in the movie, why not make them something like anti-heroes instead when we have obvious candidates for main villains like the Ender Dragon, Herobrine or even the Wither(storm)? -What the hell are they gonna do with the villagers? Will they be uncanny ass CGI like the sheep or arguably even more cursed live action?
Well, at least Mario Movie actually references how the Mario bros got from Brooklyn in the OG Mario Bros. game with all the pipes and crabs to the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario Bros.
The isekai plot could've been fine, I mean there's a reason Minecraft in real life was a trend on TH-cam back in like 2015. The problem is, with isekai you either go all in on random humans in a game world or turn them into CGI characters within the game world. You can't have NPCs like Steve be human too, it doesn't make sense.
piglins in the overworld i think because of Minecraft legends. Doesn't make sense to me why to use the story from that game instead of the original but yeah
In my opinion i am with the Britsh Brothers on this one. They should definitely just change the characters to be pixelated, have actual crafting and not made up crafting like the two buckets in one tool. Also if the other people that are going into the minecraft world at least give them a story behind them I mean in the description of the teaser it just tells us what their names are. And in the teaser maybe actually make the piglins that help you no look like the bad ones. If anything the main villain should be the enderdragon. Oh and to Jack Black I understand that you have never played minecraft but maybe don't just try to act like the movie would only be for generation alpha 2018-2025. Do you guys think that the game should still look realistic just with pixelated people?
The only studios I trust with video game adaptations are (prolly not) Paramount and Universal (as long as they have the right people). Warner Bros fumbled HARD with Minecraft.
I remember watching all those (un)official Minecraft movies on TH-cam as a kid and got super giddy when they added the Universal logo at the start. I was a huge super fan of Universal when I was a kid so seeing these films pretend that Universal created/distributed them amused me

@@GikamesShadow but those Minecraft animators aren't hired on specific days to do certain work like they would be if they worked on the film, and also there are more parts they would have to change than just the CGI. there's plenty more work that goes into it, like what are the characters interacting with, or where there looking. the object permanence is very important when there's CGI x live action occurring and would take more than a day to probably animate even the encounter with the sheep. considering that scene is probably going to be only about 5 minutes, and a 90 minute film, we're looking at around 18 days just for the reanimation, not to mention the remarketing, reselling of the DVDs to cinemas, and everything else that would need to happen, it's far more complicated than people think, and they don't appreciate the amount of work that's been put into it
You’re unfortunately right, considering this IS being produced by Warner Bros. of all companies, which hasn’t been doing well in terms of movies lately.
The fact that within days over a dozen fully animated versions of the trailer that all looked infinitely better than the "official" trailer is just mind boggling.

They were so much more than just "haha funny joke, isn't this funny, you like minecraft, right?"
Pretty much every major kid movie from the 90s and early 00s always came paired with a good moral lesson tied in with it. Whether it was Karate Kid, the Orignal Jumanji movie, Matilda, The Mighty Ducks, The Land Before Time, or whatever movie you can think of, it almost always had at least some undertones of mature morals to teach you. The modern audience hates it too
"Modern audiences" is just a codeword for "rubes who don't know the source material".

@@sageneese It was. There are many stupid producers in the media industry, right now.
i reckon Minecraft movie will be good.
This is the case a lot of times but this surely isn’t the case😅

Knowing the movie may be some peoples first introduction to the game, it should've been an experience that captures the essence of Minecraft, not the essence of Warner Bros.'
When they say this, I counter with this: So children don't deserve to be given good quality content?
Yeah, it is an excuse. An excuse to get the "old fans" off their back about the most ridiculous critiques. What it sounds like is the community wants minecraft: story mode but as a movie, which is a non-starter.

what Minecraft needs to do to fix the movie

I disagree with your statement that the movie should be for the adults and I also disagree with Jack's comment on "You are not the target audience", it should be for everyone , minecraft is the most sold videogame in history, everyone has played it from every range of ages, it is literally a game made for everyone where the only limit is the player's imagination. It should not be "for ONE group of people" it should be for ALL people, kids, teens and adults.
Yeah! Literally! In these days there a like only a few movies and shows that are meant or targeted for EVERYONE. We need more
Based comment, while I understand what the video said, this comment sounds a lot better
Playing Devil's advocate here, but I think they should reconsider their target audience, not just broaden it to literally everyone. After all, if I remember correctly, "If you appeal to everyone, you'll appeal to no one."
The target audience shouldn't be kids, but Minecraft fans themselves.
@@riverriver9677 this is prob the best option
Finally, someone says it😭😭😭😭
They just dont understand that us, adult and teenagers are the ones who grew up with this game, this should be for us, and im not saying it shouldnt be for kids, i think theres movies where it can be enjoyed by kids, teens and adults, this does NOT looks like one of those movies
Adults have money, adults also happen to be major fans. Simple math dictates that one should appeal to fans in order to make lots of money.
not to mention that gen alpha is raised on ytkids which are filled with ANIMATION, i repeat ANIMATION!! like yeah, sure dude they'd definitely love live action amirite???
The Lego movie had a target audience for kids but it was made to also appeal to people of all ages because that's what Lego is all about.
Even cartoons like MLP:FiM and Bluey followed this philosophy as well. They didn't dumb things down, they respected their target audience and you can tell the amount of love and care put into the shows.
So the whole "It's a kid movie and so it's only meant for kids" argument isn't an excuse for such a poor attempt for a videogame adaptation, especially for a game that's been a staple for so many people's childhoods.
boutta be a worse disaster then megamind 2 💀

-"MINECRAFT IN 2030" ahh graphics
-Where's Alex?
