Agreed, one of the aspects of a movie, which makes it what it is, is the SFX, as an editor, sometimes I have to make weird stuff with sound to get a really cool effect which sometimes, goes unnoticed but without it, the video would lose quality.
@@Jacob-ib4zx then again, or so you think. not every one works in a big studio. these guys worked a lot to get there and they deserved it aint all rainbows and sunshines
i dont mean to be off topic but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the password. I love any assistance you can give me
Funny enough I’m in school for audio post production right now and we were talking about this movie last week. In a broader conversation of vehicles in general, but this was one of the movies to come up
y'all should look at 'Gravity' .. that movie had just come out in theatres when I was in school for audio engineering..a well deserved Oscar win for sound that year.
YES. Finally a PROPER sound breakdown. I've worked on set and in post for over 15 years and I rarely see coverage like this letting the sound people really break things down properly. Love it
This is such a cool and thorough explanation of the difference between sound editing and sound mixing. I think all members of the Academy must watch it before voting in these two categories again, as for most of them it's just a very nuanced, technical part of filmmaking that they are in the dark about. Great video and great film!
@@nikitalavrenov8048 And it's true many of them don't know what a good sound is. I read an Academy member's predictions a few years back, and he admitted that without shame. Luckily he abstained in these categories. But imagine a movie professional saying he doesn't know what a good-looking movie is ! It's so weird, because you can make millions with good sound and a few budget cameras (Blair Witch, Project X), but without sound you can't make a movie even if you have a RED camera with a $100000 lens.
This is what makes beginning filmmakers feel more confident. Sound design broken down into understandable elements that they can use in their own shorts. Great content!
I knew there's a lot of work put into sound in movies (well, now I know about sound editing and mixing but 15min ago I did not) but holy shit, I did not expect THAT. I learned so much from this clip. To think that there's so much thought put into such simple things like steps to emphasize some character's personality when sound wasn't even present there to begin with! I wonder if these guys can live their lives peacefully though - imagine you go out and you hear some really cool sound and your first thought is that you gotta record it cause it could be useful someday! XD Also, thank you Vanity Fair for all these break down videos. They're truly fascinating!
My wife is constantly annoyed that I get excited about sound everywhere I go and have to have a portable microphone/recorder with me everywhere. My daughter (who's 6) is starting to get into listening all the time and wants to record sounds too though so I have backup! Haha.
Really love all of the VF vids with professionals talking about the thing they do and love. So many great insights. I really appreciate the extra, well-presented visual explanations too.
This is a really good intro to sound design as a discipline. Really get a sense of how complementary it is to a film's sense of atmosphere. The soundscape and film editing in Ford V Ferrari are outstanding, especially during the racing sequences.
This is So far the BEST Explanation and Breakdown of What is Film and Sound Mixing for Film. THANKS A LOT Guys for Making Such detailed Video on this. Now I can Just Share the link of this to the People whom I want to explain what is Sound and Film Mixing. Keep it Up!
Gosh, this is sooo amazing! They totally deserve all the credits because the sound plays such an important role in this movie, for real. Thank you for making this video, it’s really impressive!
Thanks for putting the spotlight on these amazing artists. It shows how much passion and professionalism goes into these "soulless Hollywood movies". Movies are so polished today that audiences take most things for granted. But there's no recipe. Making a movie is always a miracle, let alone a good movie.
I just questioned before the Academy Awards what the difference was between the sound editing and sound mixing categories. Maybe still not 100% sure, but terrific demonstration of sound mixing.
Editors are the builders, mixer is the foreman. Or you can think of editors as orchestra musicians and the mixer as the conductor. Editors create, mixer balances everything.
You can have a good camera and shoot beautiful video and be happy about it. Only until the sound takes over and gives you goosebumps. God, recording it and putting it on the timeline and mixing is so much fun. SOUND TELLS STORY!!!.
I saw a vid about that guy with the GT40 he built. It’s actually a Superformance GT40. They’re making them still but are in the registry so they are in fact real GT40s but without racing pedigree and providence
Very cool. Great to give people insight to this world. I'll be pointing folks to this video. It's so much easier to digest than my droning explanations and the comments I get when people see me mix dialogue. "You loop this often?" "Until it sounds good." and they glaze over after the third playthrough. :)
Their job is so underrated but without them there would be no movies
@puppiesinspace or so you think.

@@KickassTechnology sound people only?
No, the sound people selects the nominees and then all Academy members gets to vote on who should win.
