      ramly factory just produced the patty, bread, sauces etc for burger and hotdog. all the stalls run by their owners. basically all stalls make the burgers by malaysian ways. but sometimes you may meet experiences and skills stalls. one of the skills they may slices in the middle of the patty, pour with pepper inside, its so great. 😋😋

      I once commented on another vlogger's video about where to go in Malaysia (because they directly asked me in the replies). It kept getting deleted idk why. All I did was list down places I recommend in KL. Strange indeed. The vlogger didn't know what happened either lol. Perhaps this comment will get flagged as well haha. Anyway, welcome to Malaysia!

    We miss KL so much! Especially the food.
    To be honest, we felt the same way when we tried Ramly burgers the first time. Given all of the incredible street food available in Malaysia, they didn't really wow us. Going to have to give them another go when we return! 🍔

      RAMLY is a brand name of halal burger patty made in Malaysia. So, different stalls have different ways of preparing their own style burger using that patty. Different sauces and veggies depending on the stalls. Usually Ramly burger stall owned by locals but currently many illegals immigrants from Bangladesh and Indonesia also set up their own stalls. They tend to go for money and sell not so good burger.

    Malay is an ethnicity, like Chinese or Indian. Regardless of ethnicity, we are all Malaysian (which is a nationality). So some of the food you tried is Chinese Malaysian. Roti Canai can be thought of as Indian Malaysian food. Malaysian food in general is very much a fusion of traditional Malay, Chinese, and Indian with touches of Dutch, Portuguese, Englich, Arabic, and several others with mostly local ingredients.

      My Dad spent time in, as it was then, Malaya, as well as Singapore and Brunei, back in the mid 1960's. It had such an impact on him, that growing up we would often have an adapted version of Nasi Goreng at home and it was my favourite. He remembers his time in Malaysia fondly.

    • @mikeandashley
      @mikeandashley  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thats awesome! That was one thing my family couldn’t make growing up, proper fried rice. We’d have stirfry and things like that, but using fish sauce and oyster sauce just wasn’t on the menu, only soy sauce. It would have changed the game. Being out here and learning about the ingredients has stepped up the game as far as making food from this region. 🙏

    • @SeanHendy
      @SeanHendy หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@mikeandashley To add to the Nasi Goreng story - My Mum is British, but was raised in Belgium, which is where she met Dad about 3 or 4 years after he had been in SE Asia.
      A few months ago I was asking my folks about the backstory of how Nasi Goreng came to be part of our home routine. Mum said that whilst we were in Hong Kong (a decade or so after Dad had been in Malaysia etc) she had been to a cooking demonstration with the Gurkhas, and one of the dishes was a version of Nasi Goreng, and so the family tradition of having Nasi Goreng in a British home was created.

      @@mikeandashleyalso just for a fun fact the spire at the top of the Merdeka 118 building that may seem like a "cheat", it's actually pretty common. For example the Burj Khalifa (tallest building in the world) has a spire that is way bigger than the Merdeka, but it doesn't look like it because they designed it to look like it's part of the building but in fact the highest floor that you can only go to is 3/4 of the building's hight.
      Burj Khalifa spire - 200m
      PNB Merdeka 118 spire - 160.4m

  • @stockiezen
    @stockiezen หลายเดือนก่อน +22

    You may ask the Ramly Burger street food vendor for "less sauce", in doing so it will be less messy. Personally, I prefer it that way. However, quite a lot of people like more sauce and subscribed to "the messier it is, the better it tastes".
    If you are really into food, plan visitation by region. North (Perlis, Kedah, Penang & Perak), East (Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang), KL is Central (KL, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan) and South (Johor & Melaka). Each region has their own special food and unique variations of taste buds. And not forgetting East Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak) with huge arrays of food and its preparations.

    • @mikeandashley

    29:15 it's kaya spread. I think jam is for fruit-based spread.
    I appreciate Ashley's genuine acceptance and liking for these under the radar, least mentioned flavours of Malaysia (or SE Asia) like pandan and kaya. If you have not tried this, please to the bread section of any grocery or convenience store and get pandan cake slices, pandan swiss rolls and pandan chiffon cakes. Better yet, try looking for these at bakeries. Pandan cakes are truly divine.

    oppss.. i have to stop u there.. at 11:40 u said "Chinese descent Malays" which is not correct. It should be Chinese descent Malaysians. Malay is a different ethnic group in Malaysia which are different from the Chinese. The term Malaysians should be used for the country nationality of all Malaysians regardless of ethnic groups. Malay, Chinese, Indians, or any other ethnic groups are basically referring the culture to which they belong to or relate most from.

    Those guys did recommend to you Ayam masak merah (literally Red cooked chicken *shrug* just a name) it is not rendang. That said everyone has their own take on rendang some are better than others as you discovered. The potato croquette is called Begedil. In general malay food is similar to Indonesian with some exception like a sweeter sambal for Malaysia whereas Indonesia focus on the heat. Kaya is a custard made with eggs coconut milk palm sugar or regular sugar flavored with pandan leaves. I prefer the ones made with dark palm sugar (gula melaka) . Ramli burger is just the patty every street vendor have their own way of making them in general Malaysians like it saucy and sloppy you can tell them to use less sauce. I hope you do get to find mee rebus (based on beef broth - very safe bet for yall.) another very traditional Malay style noodles. The peranakan noodles is also traditional they were the early Chinese migrants 15th century. Later Chinese migrants 18th century have a different style of cooking. I do have to warn you all Laksa noodles they all are seafood broth made from shrimp or mackerel or both. Every state has their own version of laksa so delicious. C'mon you gotta get accustomed to taste and flavors especially fish. lol.

      @@mikeandashley Ayam masak merah is almost like goulash which is based on red bell pepper however Malaysian use dried red chili pepper it has a bit more heat than say a paprika goulash. Regardless what people say don't just mix them all up in a plate because some things are really very spicy even for the locals. I mean some locals are used to the heat but lil ole me gets heartburn from too much heat. Mee Kari is a variety of curry Laksa that should use chicken broth.
