  • From Veronique's TV special in 1989 shown on Canadian Television called VERONIQUE ELECTRIQUE, this clip is in support of the Richard Carpenter/A&M Canada produced album simply called VERONIQUE.
    In this longer medley from the first half of the show, Richard performs, with orchestra, "Superstar", "Someday", "Yesterday Once More" and "We've Only Just Begun".
    My thanks to good friend Murray for tipping me off to this TV special and the Veronique album.

    Richard you are the best piano player in the world. And your sister had that voice.It's nice to see the smile on your face and enthusiasm.Feb.3, 1983 I was 15 and heard the news from my mother. I fell apart. I saw the images on TV that they no longer broadcast. It's taken me decades to get over it. Loved u when I was8 in 1975 and at 45 in 2012...

    Are you stupid? Richard is a genius. His arrangement skills have only gone up, since he was an unexperienced piano player with the Carpenters. People who are premature in their musical journey cannot see this, though, and think Karen was the only thing that made the Carpenters special. She played a huge role in this, however, for me it's Richard's constant arrangements that make their music worth listening to. This recording displays his amazing skill once more. I personally hope to hear more!!!

    I love Richard’s more recent recordings, especially when he sings songs like Something in You Eyes. His music is every bit as enchanting as it ever has been. And his voice is both depthful and tonally beautiful.

    Hi! I'm the same age as you and found out the same way too. I will miss Karen for as long as I live. I only wish the kids today listened to the music that we grew up with. But then again, every generation thinks their music is the best! :-)

    Isn't it incredible to think that in 1989 they were already referring to The Carpenter's songs as classics. Of course the songs are classic but it's so difficult to realize how much time has passed since those wonderful days of the early 70's 😢 When I listen to The Carpenters it's "yesterday once m💗re".

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All Carpenters songs were classic upon release. Besides that, music had gone so far by 1982 that early 70s music was certainly classic.

    RC is talented but if someone else was singing his work, would his work been as well known all over the world? Karen's biggest issue is that she was in a family who could not accept that not only is she talented like RC, she is also special

    No one ever squeezed more out of a song than Richard Carpenter. Close to You was a flop from other people until he got hold of it. He heard We’ve only just Begun on a bank commercial.

    This is a wonderful tribute to Karen -- no vocals, just music. Because nobody can sing these songs as Karen did. Richard's genius is on full display here; thank you Richard, for the music. ❤️

    In this video of Richard Carpenter playing the piano beautifully on a couple of famous Carpenters' tunes "Yesterday Once More" and "I Need To Be In Love", it looks like he has a scar on his lower right jaw - where and how did he get that?

    I've seen Celine Dion singing with Elvis, him in a hologram, and I imagine how exciting it would be to see Karen's Hologram singing with Richard! It would be a resounding success! Here's the idea! Maybe this tip doesn't reach Richard or some Music Producer! Hello from Brazil! Carpenters forever!

    The flute and other instruments used for Karen's parts in this medley (though beautiful) pale in comparison to the matchless, beauty of her majestic voice.

      I dont know what you can do when the real Karen Carpenter is dead. To have someone else sing them would be woefully inadequate. To me having instruments do the solo parts is a good compromise. Not trying to necessarily replicate Karen's performance but allowing Richard to present his magnificent talent and giving just a shadow of what once was with the incredible duet of Richard and Karen Carpenter.
