What an amazing talent Karen Carpenter was! Not only a superb singer, but to play the drums with feel and always looking so relaxed and playing everything needed to make the music sound so good. I`m a professional drummer with my own Big Band and Jazz Quartet and I know Karen loved playing those Ludwig drums and she was an excellent drummer. Plus Richard doing those amazing arrangements is why this Burt Bacharach Medley is a winner. To do this all live outdoors and sounding so tight and with so much feel for the music is why bands like this you hardly ever hear today.

Karen displays a very powerful voice at times during this performance, and quite high. Something that really was never captured on the recordings. I never knew she could sing with such power. Her voice was simply flawless.

Yes. In their earlier days, Karen sang naturally with what they call an "edge". That means she wasn't soft & fluffy all the time, as they'd transformed her to be in mid 70's.
I loved it when she sang like an Angel, along with, "don't mess with me" vibes! 😎

I was one of those who was blown away by the Carpenters in 1970. Being a musician and choral singer, I recognized a great piece of music and went out and brought the "close to you" album after hearing it for the first time on the radio. Love that harmony...and I also sang "We've only begun" to my wife on our wedding day in 1974.

She died of a broken heart. But she did what she loved. She was well loved and helped build an entire new genre for older baby-boomers...adult contemporary rock. John Denver and Gordon Lightfoot was also part of the new genre she created. The genre she helped create ended about the time she died. Love you Karen.

This video is not a joke, I just cried for two things that should be incompatible: the beauty of this music and the interpretation of The Carpenters and the faces that I have seen there among the public of beings condemned to die in war or to die in life. Faces with empty expressions and primitivized emotions. Damn the wars and the scoundrels that promote them.

Absolutely the best video of the Carpenters I've ever seen. Their talent is overwhelming. No gimmicks or distractions. Pure and simple musical ability, and no doubt a lot of hard work. This music is timeless unlike much of what came out of that era. I wasn't around back then but my admiration for them continues to grow the more I'm exposed to their music. This performance is staggering. Very few of today's bands could match the Carpenters.

They were perfect pitch. I imagine it had a lot to do with their family and it’s appreciation of music.

I remember loving this group and her and many of my friends would say "hey, they are square and not very attractive". I'd say but have you listened to their beautiful blend and harmonies. Remember they were competing with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Mamas and the Papas, and the Animals, the Doors - and they just didn't fit in with the wild, drug taking groups of that era. But I still loved them anyway.

Watching Richard look at the old cars, i can tell he's a real car guy. Average folks wouldn't shut the doors only using the outside door handles. I've done this all my life 😊

Passei muitos e muitos anos dizendo a ela que podia não ter morrido, que é linda e devia ter ficado por aqui... Quanta música linda poderia ter cantado pro mundo! Mas acho que já sabe disso...
