Great stream as usual. I've been following you for so long... I gotta say your success is well deserved. I was gifted a membership during the stream and unfortunately I was listening and not watching the chat at the time so I kinda missed it, but whoever gifted that to me - thank you! It's very much appreciated. 😎
30:31 Vals “Honey colored hair” I think that’s super important because honey doesn’t freeze. She has power over the cold. And on a tangent that’s why Frozones Wife is called Honey in the Incredibles 👌
Btw the "half hand" is probably a reference to the orthodox schism that is explored much more in depth in Elden Ring. The Old believers split off when the new patriarch made them do a different hand gesture with three fingers instead of two. In Elden Ring the Two Fingers stand for order and division and the Three Fingers for fiery chaos that melts all existence back into one pot.
Love that you’re expanding the mythical analogies of other stories. Yay! Princess Bride is one of my absolute favorite movies. Happy New Years Lightbringer fans!
24:53 Everything you're saying so far about Night's Queen being Nissa Nissa, being a Stark, is only reinforcing my belief that Jon is the Nissa Nissa Reborn to Dany's Azor Ahai Reborn. Its alllllll coming together, David.
I loved your thorough insights in this stream, and your study of the underlying lore and mythological references - excellently done, as usual! I second the person who mentioned "Pan's Labyrinth" as another potential study case, and for books, I think Philip Pullman's Dark Materials would be a goldmine! I forgot to comment in your last video, but I would also be very interested to see you delve into Narnia's lore and mythological references!
Love your content sir professor, late to the live stream but i would love you to dive into the dark tower mythos. Crazy eldritch lore in those stories. Keep up the great work!
I know you said not shows and I've watched you for so long I know you don't watch much TV but you should look into watching FROM! You wanna talk about myth and an entire fandom dedicated to solving the mystery together...one of the best fandoms I've ever been apart of! Picking apart the sets in the backgrounds of scenes, songs they play, clothes they wear, art they display, because it's a clue...everything is a clue! The show runners and actors are cool and do interviews with TH-camrs and actually participate with their fans! I took the longest break from ASOIAF content I've ever taken because I got so wrapped up in FROM! Tony Teflon got me watching it a few years ago and it's just a fun show to be apart of!
One of my all time favorite authors is Anne Bishop, she has several different series/ worlds to choose from and they're all excellent. Lots of empowered women characters, you might find her world of the fae series most of interest to you.
finally catching up with your last few streams and videos! it would be awesome to see you cover the One Piece manga. It’s full of mythological symbolism. I think you would really get a kick out of the series too. Not to mention, non-manga fans (especially youtubers who cover books) catching up to the One Piece manga has been really popular on youtube for a hot minute now!
I would love this kind of treatment with the Kingkiller Chronicles by Rothfuss. I don’t think we will get the final book but the way you theorize would be so much closure and so interesting. There’s so much myth woven into the story and it’s only two main books so not too much of a lift.
Throwing out a bunch of random movie suggestions! Book of Eli, Labyrinth, Pirates of the Caribbean, Neverending Story, Oh Brother Where Are Thou?, the Thorn Birds, Treasure Planet, the Matrix… maybe even Disney movies..?
Only 6 minutes in but you could cover Wheel of Time. Basically go over the ideas and myths that influenced the over all story, the different cultures, and characters.
To understand the screaming hinge specifically, and all of GoT generally, you must study the texts of Fall of the House of Usher, and also Lancelot du Loc
In the 1988 fantasy novel Lavondyss (about a wildwood that can generate physical manifestations of mythological archetypes) there are a group of green men called the Daurog, they have horns and tusks, are made from plants and they give birth to birds. In summer they help humans as long as they don't enter the heart of the wood. In winter however they transform into wolves called Scarag, who hunt humans and drink their blood. Obviously this is drawing on the same folklore any myth that George is, but I think the green men who specifically turn into blood drinking wolves marks it as a possible influence, along with phrases such as "the shadow of the forest" "heart of the wood" and "ghost of the tree". "only in winter did the wolf emerge to stalk the snow wastes and the bare forest for prey"
3:36:52 it makes sense that Bran the Builder is a girl in another way - when Bran was looking back in time to the life of the weirwood in Winterfell, the last image he sees (and therefore, likely, the first thing that the tree had ever seen) was a woman slitting a man's throat. Maybe he was Brandon? So, his blood built Winterfell. Or he took credit. Or maybe it's "Brienne the Builder" - it's a very similar name, so much so that i was sure you said "Brienne" instead of "Bran" in this very stream! (Or maybe they misremembered the name, and it was "Gran the Builder" 😂)
David, as someone who commented on your first video about the Others (“The Others Were Green Men!”), I need to point out something that stands out even more in this second one, “Did Night’s Queen Make the Others?” After watching Michael Talks About Stuff’s “What the Others Actually Are Explained,” the similarities between his video and yours are impossible to ignore-especially in how both theories are structured and built step by step. Michael’s video presents a tightly woven argument about the Others being shadow creatures created through icy magic, with roots in unnatural births and shadow-binding. He begins by establishing the mechanics of shadow magic in the books, including its parallels between fire and ice (e.g., Melisandre’s shadow babies). Then, he transitions into discussing the role of the Night’s Queen as an icy counterpart to Melisandre, wrapping it all up by tying the Others to themes of corrupted life and unnatural creation. Your second video follows almost the exact same structure: Starting with shadow magic as a foundation - Both videos explore how GRRM’s mechanics of magic allow for the Others’ creation, focusing on parallels between fire and ice. Discussing the Night’s Queen as the focal point - Both delve into her seduction and union with the Night King, framing her as the architect of the Others. Concluding with themes of corrupted life - Both suggest the Others are magical constructs rather than a natural race, emphasizing unnatural creation and disrupted cycles. The structure and progression of these arguments feel so aligned that it’s difficult to chalk it up to coincidence. Add to that the timing-Michael’s video was released days before your first one, and now your second follows shortly after-and it starts to feel like more than accidental overlap. Splitting the theory into two videos further gives the impression of stretching content that was originally laid out succinctly in Michael’s single video. I’m not accusing you outright of lifting Michael’s work, but when the arguments, structure, and even the order of progression are so similar, it raises serious questions about inspiration and acknowledgment. If Michael’s video informed your approach, I think the respectful and transparent thing would have been to acknowledge that influence. Right now, it feels as though his ideas have been restructured to fit your channel’s mythological and symbolic aesthetic without giving proper credit to the original work. I’m a fan of your channel, and I think your storytelling adds a unique angle to the fandom. But part of what makes these theories thrive is collaboration and recognition of others’ contributions. When creators don’t address overlaps like this, it risks eroding trust. If there’s a reason these parallels exist-or if Michael’s work inspired parts of your theory-I’d love to hear you address it. Transparency would go a long way in clarifying this situation and preserving the integrity of the fandom discussion.
They have been doing several live-streams together these past few months and are closely aligned in their theories. It could be a case of the Multiple Discovery Theory, or it could be that one took more than a bit of inspiration from the other, possibly subconsciously. Shout-outs were given, though, and both praise each other's work. Conscious malintent may not be in effect here.
Here is what I can glean from you and Michael's videos: The Others are Green Men, their souls trapped within icy bodies by the Bloodstone Emperor and/or Night's Queen, via the sacrifice of Nisa Nisa (a Child of the Forest/Greenman/Human hybrid who was also the Amethyst Empress and Bloodstone's sister wife). The Greenmen, whose souls are linked to Weirwoods (which used to be green) are taken captive by the two sorcerers, turned into Others, their trees turning red and white with death, now empty of their souls. So, when Greenseers (who are descendants of the Greenmen and Children) go "into the trees", they are stealing the empty carcus of Greenman soultrees and access the ancient spirit world that the Greenmen once lived in. But they are not meant to inhabit the trees: they are mortal, born to die, unlike the Greenmen, who live forever, so eventually they pass away, though strapped to the trees their bodies last longer.
That's a pretty good summary, and I think the solution has to do with Bran being able to download that entire invasive hive mind, so that the trees are empty again. I think it is Jon and Dany who will shove them back in the trees with some shit that goes down at the Heart of Winter, or maybe Winterfell, or the Nightfort, hard to say because they're all basically parallel locations
After having to turn it off 20 mins in, I'm back and ready to settle in and watch the stream as a nice pre-bed relaxation! And seeing y'all went 4 hours, it's a good thing I'm tucking in early XD
its actually really interesting that ib and winterfell are latitudewise parrelel since they both exist as these northern bastions that interact with others and keep them at bay/sacrifice to them in the case of ib/craster
Thanks for the stream! Here is a comment for the old gods of the algorithm. Your last couple points got me thinking. George said before that he likes the partnership of Antman and the Wasp.Jon and Dany will have something similar when they finally meet and combine forces. I'm kind of wondering if the Last Hero or some other Stark and the Night Queen could have had something similar? If she built an icy form of the weirnet for the dead green men to live in, that could mirror Dany leading the Others back into the trees at the end of the series. Jon becoming some kind of leader for the Others could also mirror whatever relationship the Others had with the Starks in the past.
The Manderly’s were the Green Hands at the mouth of a river they were then exiled to the frozen mouth of a river in the North. Symbolizing the transformation of Green Men and the alive side of the weirdwood net to the Others and the frozen side of the weirwood net.
ur cookin right bro this is damn good material tonight thanks! i just got off of a 14 hour shift n u got me intrigued. u got me thinking we might ACTUALLY see the karstarks in other form attack winterfell
The Manderly v Peak parallel works even better if ASoIaF Theorist's timeline is correct and the Andals (followers of the 7-pointed Star) arrived really early in Westeros.
I'd absolutely be obsessed if you'd approach Elden Ring Lore, very connected to ASOIAF, could be some streaming content if you wanted to play but you can also just cheese through the game, look at architecture, and engage with the lore descriptions, or even engage with lore w/o really playing the game.
I was thinking that we can track the Long Night and the events there from Aerys abduction in Duskendale (The sun disappears in a "Shady Glen/Eclipse" event, and afterwards the Sun is "corrupted/mad" which can mean the non sun situation of the Long Night, and it ends with the "Sack of King's Landing/Weirwood net" and the event at "The Tower of Joy" in which each of the Moons die, one destroyed in a permant way (the fiery one with her baby dragons falling) and the other in a sort of death/rebirth as an undead stone (a lifeless moon) instead of the lively one that gives birth a magical "Moonchild/Sunchild" that will bring everything into balance again. The Sun with 2 Moon wives is also very present in this event as a whole. The Sun "first wife" is the fiery one and afterwards he goes to the second one. We see this in Raeghar with Elia and Lyanna, Bloodstone Emperor with the Amethist Emp/The Tygerwoman (CotF?) and even with Aegon and Rhaenys/Vysenia. Maybe we should track the kids of them to know more about the outcome of the first Long Night, and maybe see what will be done in this one.
You could make a video exploring the myth/symbolism of The Lighthouse and Hereditary (maybe The Substance and Nosferatu too? lol) I'll watch anything you make to be honest
2:45:26 I'm now even more convinced that Ygritte's Nissa Nissa death is a sign that John is not Azor Ahai - it's 1. not his arrow that kills her, and 2. the things she says draw connections between them like they're the same kind of person - ice women, stolen girls, kissed by fire and doomed by the narrative. I'm also fixating on the theme of young women being blamed for the deaths of kings who cannot love them - Brienne, who gets blamed for Renly, and Sansa, who gets blamed for Joffrey. I'll be keeping an eye out for further iterations of the theme, for sure.
yeah I don't think you logic holds up here, meeting no disrespect. I don't know if you've watched my Jon Snow Azor Ahai video, but there's a whole hours worth of evidence that yes he is, including a dream where he does kill Ygritte with his flaming red sword we are supposed to notice the dichotomy between Jon's choices in real life, where he never chooses to kill innocent people, and the role he's being forced into - AA reborn - which is some kind of rebirth of a magician who did murder his wife or whoever Nissa Nissa was. Jon is a good lad and will pass the test
Lord of the Rings has lots to dive into especially when you consider the Silmarilion and assorted letters. The Witcher and it’s real world European folklore (ie The Wild Hunt etc)
Love the streams- been watching for years but just was dumbfounded by the content. Two things- have you ever read the Dresden Files? That version of the Fae has a lot of really good parallels throughout. Also- I'm not sure this is the right stream, but the Allyssa's Tears prophecy (That she will not know rest until the Tears reach the valley) Is it possible that the Others will show up in Eyrie, freeze the Tears in such a way that they reach the ground, and become a pathway for the Others to invade, AS WELL AS causing the Eyrie (and thus Alyssa) to fall and "Find rest"? ANyway- love your work
The Sidhe are an interesting Fae that can tell us a lot about the Others. The Weirwood net is probably an equivalent to the Otherworld (fitting). The realm of Truth, Fantasy, Horror, Dreams, and Nightmares the Fae call home. It overlaps ours like two harmonizing waveforms. I prefer Slough, they are beings of shadow and irrational fears. Very misunderstood. Sidhe however are Imperious. Courtly. Lawful. To us, they seem incredibly cruel. From their perspective man is a perversion of nature and a usurper of Order. From their perspective they can justify the wholesale slaughter or thralldom of man. They are very IN character during their introduction. How they allow Waymar a one vs one but treat him like an afterthought. They don't represent chaos, but cold rigid order. My question is what broke the unicorns back? What happened between the time of Raymond Redbeard and Mance Rayder that set the Others to ramp things up and go on offense?
Two great books (they aren't series, so it should be easier!) are Spinning Silver and Uprooted by Naomi Novik! They are Eastern European folklore heavy, but very related to ASOIAF, too! Excellent books!
I really liked Uprooted as I was reading it, but kind of hate it now when I think back on the poor writing and characters. The author herself admits she just shoved a bunch of fairy tales in her story without contextual justification.
@NeverUseAnApostrophe You know, that analysis of Uprooted is fair. I don't like it nearly as much as I liked Spinning Silver. I didn't know why and didn't think about it too much to figure it out. But yes, the characters were only alright, and the story was convoluted. If you haven't, though, I think you should give Spinning Silver a chance. I especially enjoyed the audiobook - the reader was very talented.
I watched a movie yesterday called Sword of the Valiant and wanted to mention that the Green Knight in it (played by Sean Connery) seemed like a great visual reference for Garth if you need more images on hand.
@David Lightbringer m8, since you asked, I’d be willing to pluck out my own eye and toss it into a well in order to learn what you might be able to teach me about The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. Thanks for the great content!!
also ive always wondered if sandor killing lommy was about the destruction of the order of the green hand which happens in the fields of fire, and sandor ofc has a burned face
Yeah my kids have gaelic names since our background is mostly scottish and my 2nd daughter is Maeve. Gaelic spelling would be Maedb but pronounced the same, so I went w/something people are more likely to get right :)
Re: dreamers falling onto ice spikes: the trees are timeless, and touching them sweeps you up into their wake and you have access to the whole timeline and you're vast.... then, if you suddenly lost that, you'd be demoted back into linear time, ..... you'd be stuck in place in the current moment, Impaled upon the Now. A dreamer floating quickly past this scene of the fallen would see their diminished consciousness as being stuck in moments that flit by as you speed on. I dunno what the Others are doing with those babies, man. But I think they LIKE having Craster in the world, makes it a brighter place for them to see a human ending his bloodline in subservience, as if Craster lives not because of any magical contract, the worth of the babies being negligible----no the Others could cross the line and kill Craster anytime. the reason they don't is because they have issues psychologically and he's a balm that makes them feel better about the ancient wrong done to them. Like Craster is offering them the apology the human race has LONG OWED the Others. He's ceding his seed to them, saying they deserve to exist and we humes don't. And this is somehow a makegood for how we took the right-of-way from the Others. We blocked them behind the wall like a child in Timeout, but really mankind is the child. We get it backwards and call the Children of the Forest the children when that's us. We're the usurper, the infant race, the ones with the cold hearts. If they need to get below the wall to reconnect to the weir net and the Hightower has refused them forever and a day, we're also the Long Knight.
What a stream, my head was spinning! Gonna have to do a rewatch when I'm not totally stoned so I can pick up whatever I missed 😅
That's the lore rewiring you mind to receiving the blessing of Garth
I say get even more stoned next time, Garth expands our perception..it is known..:)
Nothing feels better than opening TH-cam and seeing David’s dropped another 4+ hour banger of a livestream
No matter what you produce its ALWAYS engaging. I've used so much of what I've learned about the series in my own writing! Thanks LML
4 plus hours is crazy, bruh keeps dropping when I’m down. He brings the light. Therefore…. David Lightbringer ❤❤❤
Azor Imhigh Confirmed 😏🤷🏿♂️😮💨
Great stream as usual. I've been following you for so long... I gotta say your success is well deserved.
I was gifted a membership during the stream and unfortunately I was listening and not watching the chat at the time so I kinda missed it, but whoever gifted that to me - thank you! It's very much appreciated. 😎
You are my favourite for all things a song of ice and fire. Please never stop. ❤
Time for some soothing tea!
Hey LmL, lurker here, just wanted to say I love the classic opening theme is back.
When they write the history of Dave's streams, they will say the game of taking a shot everytime he name-drops 'Odin' began today
Better make it shots of apple juice!😊

Peach juice :)
@@martinkrog5943 very nice one
You'd die of you tried it with azor ahai, or Nissa Nissa 😂

I would love to see your breakdown of all the mythology in the movie Midsommar.
oh there’s a ton of amazing alchemical references in that film. ❤
Immediately starts watching it from the beginning to enjoy the entire stream❤
Great stream! Thank you for the 4 hours of juicy other symbolism. Praise Garth!

I have been a slug since Christmas 😭 thank u for giving me something to watch as I slug it up in my fuzzy warm blankieeee 🤭
Love that you’re expanding the mythical analogies of other stories.
Yay! Princess Bride is one of my absolute favorite movies.
Happy New Years Lightbringer fans!
Excellent stream! Lord Lightbringer was cookin, as usual! Can’t wait to listen to the replay to catch all the little gems I missed live!
I like to do that immediately after as well ! Cheers
The Green Knight would be a fun mythical symbolism breakdown.

David, I wish your theories could be turned into an HBO show because they are truly epic
Wild how long that stream was - with no guests!? Thanks for answering my questions.
your thrones theme remix at the start is and will remain such a classic❤🔥

Wolf in sheep’s clothing! How did I miss that one!
I'd absolutely be obsessed if you'd approach Elden Ring Lore, very connected to ASOIAF, could be some streaming content if you wanted to play but you can also just cheese through the game, look at architecture, and engage with the lore descriptions, or even engage with lore w/o really playing the game.
yeah we did a whole 3 hour Elden Ring stream a few weeks back, check it out!
Man I missed the old jams.
💙💙💙💙💙💙great stuff ty
I don't know if you've watched my Jon Snow Azor Ahai video, but there's a whole hours worth of evidence that yes he is, including a dream where he does kill Ygritte with his flaming red sword
we are supposed to notice the dichotomy between Jon's choices in real life, where he never chooses to kill innocent people, and the role he's being forced into - AA reborn - which is some kind of rebirth of a magician who did murder his wife or whoever Nissa Nissa was. Jon is a good lad and will pass the test
Lord of the Rings has lots to dive into especially when you consider the Silmarilion and assorted letters.
The Witcher and it’s real world European folklore (ie The Wild Hunt etc)
If you're taking requests, I'll throw the Nag Hammadi texts in there as something to discuss
Awesome another new stream 😊 have you read Dune? Worth delving into?
Is totally worthy, check for quinns ideas for his reviews
Movies! Yes!
you should talk about the holy mountain or another jodorowsky film. maybe.
Season 1 of true detective! Im sure grey waste tim can get on that as well with all the lovecraft ajd chambers references.
A comment offering to the algorithm gods!! Praise garth!
Two great books (they aren't series, so it should be easier!) are Spinning Silver and Uprooted by Naomi Novik! They are Eastern European folklore heavy, but very related to ASOIAF, too! Excellent books!
👀
TIM TIM TIM TIM
if the others invade or get past the wall wouldnt the karhold be the last stop before winterfell
Can anyone explain to me the idea of the nights queen “creating the others”? Isn’t she herself an other? Then who made her?
She could have been born a normal human, like Melissandre, but exposed to ice sorcery.
Praise Garth 🍀
Yaye the princess bride!! my fave !! my brain is buzzing with movies n ideas now… go Dave!
5:48 It would be incredible to have some deep dives into pure mythology sometime.
Thanks so much Dave your vid’s are my favourite thing to listen to while I’m at the gym!
*vids. Never use an apostrophe to pluralize.
Starting my rewatch, had to lower the volume during parts of the livestream cause of my halflings so ready to fully enjoy now ❤
Narnia would be amazing.
Also would be cool if you covered Brandon Sanderson
the mists of avalon would be such a wild deep dive analysis!!!
Tad Williams!
1:18:56 White Walters
A new mammoth Mythical Astronomy, Symbolism video. take that Elio, ya big tool..
I watched a movie yesterday called Sword of the Valiant and wanted to mention that the Green Knight in it (played by Sean Connery) seemed like a great visual reference for Garth if you need more images on hand.
The others are the earths white blood cells
🎉🎉🎉
This us so fascinating. Any thoughts who the last hero would be?
I missed the stream, but Earthsea would be a fantasy book series you'd like too
@David Lightbringer m8, since you asked, I’d be willing to pluck out my own eye and toss it into a well in order to learn what you might be able to teach me about The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. Thanks for the great content!!
Seems a bit much tbf.
@@A_Black_Sheep94 real fans understand 🤷♂️
@@Chief.95 I mean like you could have tried to haggle atleast
@A_Black_Sheep94 I was never gifted in negotiations😕 I usually just plead and beg and promise literally ANYTHING🙃
Liza tulley = Jabba the Hutt
also ive always wondered if sandor killing lommy was about the destruction of the order of the green hand which happens in the fields of fire, and sandor ofc has a burned face
