I'm glad I was old enough to experience Vanilla WoW. I don't think anything will ever capture that feeling. It was legal crack man, anxious to leave school only to come home to play until 3 am then wake up in 3 hours to do it all over again.
wow madseason been churning out these videos really fast, im glad because i remember they used to come out like once every couple of months a few years ago
Regarding SoD XP @33:47 as someone who didn't start playing SoD until phase 4, I did find that a 150% XP bonus ruined the normal leveling process for classic. For instance, if I remember this properly, lets say as a human I'd do Elwynn, then Westfall. I'd want to do deadmines next but maybe not be quite up to the ideal level to run it smoothly. I'd then go to Thelsmar and start questing there until I hit the right level to run DM and then move on to Redridge or Wetlands. Now, by the time you finish Westfall you're basically over leveled for DM and no one is running it. The only reason to do the other "second zone" is if you just want to earn the 300% quest currency rewards. I know I can turn the discovery buff off, but if I do I lose out on the quest reward bonus which makes it hard to keep up with trainer and profession costs. It'd be nice if you could keep the gold bonus but turn off the XP bonus.
What you were "Cooking" is 100 percent right and what Boomers like me complained about during Cata. I started playing in the second half of Vanilla and didn't clear all current content until Wrath. Because of that my 25 man LK kill is STILL my top memory. I quit during Cata. Bot because I thought the game itself was complete trash but because LFG and LFR had destroyed the community and RMT and Boosting took over. Nothing felt special anymore.
i'm a retail and mythic plus andy. i appreciated playing some classic for the nostalgia of it since i've played since 2004. i even had some fun in SoD but retail is the thing that keeps me coming back. i have so much invested in achievements and collectibles and just sheer time. i love the raids my long time guild and dungeons. i hope that they make some improvements to the story in the future xpacs
yee m2 mate i like retail more than classic i play wow since tbc and like u tiped a toe in SoD and classic wotlk but im not enjoying it that much and i go back to retail
M+ is so much more fun than doing some easy outdated dungeons in classic. I like the scaling difficulty and the pacing. Mastering your class and getting into high keys is so rewarding in retail.
I think retail is best enjoyed by people in a longterm guild. For people without a guild, it's hard to find one, and be welcomed into the warm social raiding aspect of the game. In classic it feels easier to get into the warm social aspect without a longterm guild.
Up until I quit mythic raiding due to time I was in this spot as well. CE progression is rewarding and fun and engaging. Playing your character (and doing so well), improving week to week is so rewarding and fun.
Yeah as someone who played toward the end of OG wow lvl 52 when TBC came out. I enjoyed classic vanilla, and tbc and wrath. But SOD isn't enjoyable for me personally. The vibe is totally off. The community is what made OG Vanilla and TBC so amazing. The larger community has grown toxic unfortunately.
I played the game using white and gray gear only - that brings you to vanilla and above difficulty. It's not possible for all classes, i played a hunter but what it teaches you about your class is insane. Having to use every skill was a ton of fun. Looking for a vendor that sells white gear was great. I've done it when max level was 120 i never used fast travel, i never used mounts. It was a great experience. And still if you surging for Iron Men challenge WOW i made it to easy for myself because i was using food and i felt it^^.
He's kind of like WoW's Historian. So although he has had similar videos/talked about the same topics here and there, ultimately they're different. Also it's fricken hard to come up with new stuff to make videos about the same game over and over again.
Eh, I thought so too until I watched the video. He includes a lot of new info and it's a lot more concise and focuses purely on classic. Talking about private servers and other neat little trivia
i remember i had the alpha server and played it before release.. dont remember much about it more then mobs had too move before attacking if you stood in them.. had some class mates and we went as humans to Undercity and killed elites as low lvl, might be that we never killed one but they couldn't kill us
Cata subscriber numbers started to drop off before LFR was even released. The xpac was too hard for people, not that they got the carrot and got bored. LFR was only released on the last patch when dragon soul dropped, before that people would complain that 5man heroics/raids were too hard. People said Wrath was too easy so they made it harder in Cata. They pulled you far away from the carrot instead of giving it to you, opposite of what Xar is suggesting.
I feel like Ulduar was like the first raid where it showed that majority of wow classic players dont have enough skill to break through. Then TOC was easier and in ICC they had to add buff. Id say that cata was bit harder than pre nerf icc which implies that big part of wow players will not experience the part of the game that wow was navigating towards which is raiding compared to lvling. And in a sense it loses purpose as they made leveling sort of a ,,learn your class before raid”
I don't agree that you're wasting your time playing on private servers with the argument that they will eventually shut down. If Blizzard releases an expansion, or Vanilla Classic that you love and enjoy playing A LOT, you're enjoying that time that you have because they will eventually release a new expansion that will be different and you're gonna have to start over in one way or another anyway.
5:38 i haven't played wow much since MoP, but in counterstrike i go to thirdperson cam to see what something might look like to abother pkayer, and i INSTANTLY fall back to my wow movement keys to strafe Im sure thay speaks to the immersion of a mor direct control vs click2move
I don't think playing private servers is "Not cool". Its against policy for sure and risky for a streamer but I compare private servers and game IP to music. It's not against law to do a cover of a song and perform it differently, you can upload it on youtube for others to enjoy, the line is set at profits - you cannot profit from using IP that way in any direct way so I think its cool people took the IP and created their versions of wow for others to enjoy, as long as they weren't profiting from it.
Its legal to cover a song (and release it to a streaming service) if - and only if- you buy a cover license. Could apply this same logic to private servers
What happened between Wrath and Cata, was the opposite to what Xar is saying. Cata was too difficult for players while Wrath was too easy. Players got their carrot in Wrath and then in Cata players couldn't even see the carrot. I remember specifically that the difficulty was a very popular complaint about Cata.
They don’t want to spend a lot of time making content that only 5% see. If they quit after they beat lfr, I think that is fine if they come back in the future.
Dude, the one of the best MMO's ever was click to move, Ultima Online. I had no issue being immersed in the game and in fact it's the second best immersive MMO I've played with Asheron's Call being the best. Click to move is fine.
Raid finder is a good thing. I'd wager 80% of wow players simply can't exist in a guild and raid structure. Those players deserve to experience the content all the same.
I agree with Xar on the Difficulty thing. Make raids difficult, it's more fun. Preferably 40 man, so 1 person's gear doesn't matter as much as teamwork matters. It makes guild more necessary, which is good.
@@giovannypena5803 It's not all about the results. The act of doing the raid together, should be fun. If that'a not fun for you,. you should play something else.

I was in a private server before it went commercial... I even had my private server for me and my friends... of course I switched to commercial the first day it went live!
I started in tbc, through that and wrath I didn’t 100% any of the raid content, come Cata I cleared everything on heroic, LFR if anything gave me the confidence to raid with all the angry sweats
Running Incursions in SoD should not level you 10X faster with 10X gold. This makes the WORLD of warcraft pointless and the only thing worth while is incursions.
@42:00 what you're talking about here... This is one of the reasons I feel ALL content shouldn't be available through LFR. I am one of those people who stopped raiding after wrath, but continued through LFR on later expansions, so I would be affected by this. But I think it's a good thing. I feel LFR should only be available for the first raid tier, or maybe even the second if there are 3. You never give the player everything. If you want to see endgame, you need to progress.
I can say I never cleared the endgame for vanilla and tbc but I didn't continue because I never cleared it, I kept playing because I enjoyed the game, all it was.
I think you are right about players quitting after Cata, because they beat the game essentially. In Vanilla I never even hit 60, because I was playing bgs and they didn’t give experience back then. I was always chasing the end game content and I was okay with not always achieving it on time.
i actually remember the abyss server emulation kit for the alpha client... i had that back in the day... also wowemu... :D pathfinding was horrendous...
Stolen IP? I don't think blizzard has ever released anything for the public use so they would be hosting servers without blizzard data. Server just calculates the positions and whatever
The only version that i can say was trash was WoD due to the garrison. That was the beginning of separation in regards to the player base. It really made it to where the main towns became less populated and the world began to feel empty.
I used to play original WoW. Cata was okay, but WoD is what killed my interest. Idk if my memory is getting sloppy, but I swear Pally's got intro'ed on BC with Blood Elves. I just remembered main was Lock until rolling Pally in BC 🤷🏽♂
That was all lies I promise you Blizzard has always had many backups of all their expansions from day one. If you know software and business you know this for a fact.
You have said it before but they really just need to continue classic as classic and add zones and bosses to the original world and just continue classic all the way to lvl 100? Idk thats kind of high but at least to 85.
I have a hdd that has a BWL era version of wow and private server files (2005 era). I use to take it to internet cafes and host raids and custom stuff. Problem with private servers is tge people running its get greedy and power and corruption.
I disagree on LFR providing the ability to clear the raids. 10mans, 25mans, normals and hc's did that. Blizzard made sure every guild could at one point see Arthas because of the 30% buff. The introduction of LFR during the Deathwing raid was unnessecary in my opinion. Though i do think cata normal raid bosses were generally harder than wotlk raids.
And then this dude with his life content clearing point but talking about how for wrath it was clearing heroic ICC and heroic uld into lfr and making this like some original thought when it's been regurgitated a million times like bro i usually pove his videos but god hes dense
For SoD I don´t mind speeding up the leveling a bit, or offer new, fun (not incursions lol) ways to level a bit faster. But leveling way too fast just to hit endgame is... not that fun.
I am not a fan of a long leveling experience after doing it so many times. I don't quit the game, but I get what you're saying. I would pay money to not level at this point, I am SO done leveling in WoW through stuff i've done time and time and time and time again. I've leveled alts through every xpac multiple times
My broke ass 15 yr old played on private server in 2002, bosses were not scripted, some zones only had one bugged mob lol, spells were all bugged and wrong, we still played though
That was my introduction in a way, I bought the battlechest, couldn't maintain a sub and joined "Underworld Private Gaming" for cata content. Fuggin loved it man
I feel like Blizz is launching too many versions all at once. It's like you can't chill for a bit or you will lose the opportunity to play that version with players cause the population has moved to "the next thing". And maybe a lot of people end up not even taking the time to come cause it's already gone. If it's cool, don't try to move on from it so quick... That's how I feel.
"Hiring the Nos devs". I think you meant fucking over the Nos devs, completely dismissing their ideas and then feeding the community a shit sandwich called "Classic".
Yeah subscription 20 years ago was aceptable because you dont have any competition, now you have a new free to play game every 6 month thats its a huge problem if you want to keep players.
Btw guys dont get me wrong i admire blizzard, keep mmo server running is a massive teamwork effort, people lose interest really fast keep people playing is really hard.
you could do the game with just 4 classes: warrior, cleric, mage, and thief. that's all you need. back in the 90's, before any mmorpgs I played a MUD and it had 4 four classes I just mentioned and that was all it had. MEDIEVIA. It was a great game but then they added a bunch of fae crap in it and it was ruined.
Man i want to get into classic but the lvling is so boring and i have to watch videos on where the dungeon quests are but im trying to lvl rn so when u get to lvl 69 ill get back to you
Bitching about the micro transaction in classic is so disingenuous. The MAJORITY or players in classic were buying gold, and using that bought gold to pay for boosts where you just stand at the instance and wait for the mage to finish SM or ZF or whatever. You're reeeeeeing about the wow token did nothing but change who you bought the gold from and you know it.
Just gotta throw it out there your idea of how correlation works seems a bit off. We know for a fact that giving people the carrot kills the chase this has been proven in countless psychological studies. Sub numbers dropped almost out of the gate for cata in 2010, look at the graph its almost instant a few weeks or a month in(why this most likely happened is in the preach video you watched). LFR isint introduced until last raid of cata which is way before sub drop and level boost is pandaria pre patch so even after that. So its not correlation if it happens before the thing you want to correlate it to. TLDR is your conclusion is most likely correct but how you got there very incorrect XD which is funny but doesn't make you wrong and yeah they should stop throwing the carrot in out face hoping we will chase like good ol times.
i play private servres becuase they are free. i cannot afford a subscription nor the full game. i will continue to suppoer private free servers until the monopoly that is overpricing things in an econmy of making the little man smaller is taken down.
Madseason is so lost. :D like the players who really wanted pure vanilla during wotlk are so far and few and he is stating those things as ”facts” having played cata classic these past few days it just feels so much better than any classic version so far. I mean sure madseason can whine for fresh vanilla and play it with 10 friends not sure if its worth for blizzard though. Kek

They should release WoW Alpha Classic
lol why? so you can run around for 10 mins lmao.
yep
Riot said that their mmo finaly wont happen no ?
you could do the game with just 4 classes: warrior, cleric, mage, and thief. that's all you need. back in the 90's, before any mmorpgs I played a MUD and it had 4 four classes I just mentioned and that was all it had. MEDIEVIA. It was a great game but then they added a bunch of fae crap in it and it was ruined.
MUDs were the shit. Used to play one in high school till it closed down
I loved classic wow so much and sod had me so excited but it did not stick for me at all
ye and classic rerelease was 5 years ago and people talking about "to soon" smh
OSRS players stand up and UNITE! Don’t be hating on click to move my guy😩
_Hi Xaryu test TARISLAND !!!_
Wrath classic classic classic when?
Why only reaction content now ? 😢
You're the second person I've seen say that. The first person said it in a less nice way lol I just think he wants an easy life now
I cant watch this vid. Mad seasons voice drives me crazy.
They already stopped making the riot mmo
They are still making it. They just announced they were going lights out and wont be making updates for a couple of years.
Dude retail is absolute trash. The defense mechanisms for that awful game are actually impressive.
i play private servres becuase they are free. i cannot afford a subscription nor the full game. i will continue to suppoer private free servers until the monopoly that is overpricing things in an econmy of making the little man smaller is taken down.
WoW without a Druid would not be playable, sorry.
Kek
Hello
you have no shame
It’s not cool to be playing private servers because I can’t profit from it - Xaryu
WoW is click to move wtf
is too hard for this mad season to talk louder, very annoying
