11: Mack’s are the ONLY trucks that can drive through a flooded out street or even a river with water to the top of the hood and never develop issues from it. They ARE the workhorse of the industry and no other truck can beat them. Love my bulldog!

Had a 237 Gold Dog with a 6-speed, 2 stick overgear tranny. The last notch was from 35 to around 70 m.p.h. if you had enough room. If I'd had a 12-speed I could run with 290's. As my father told me that truck would make a real truck driver out of me. It did for over 30 yrs OTR had a hell lot of fun doing just that. I miss those days.

A 1951 LTL with off highway bunks, a 1968 R600 with a Columbia dump box, a 1975(?) RL700L with highway bunks all with quadraplexes, they were all great trucks to drive. A 1974 DM800SX with a Columbia box. The absolute worst truck I ever drove. The DM series did a lot to take Mack down in the Northwest, we never saw one that wasn't in the shop. I used my seniority to keep in my 66 which was worn out rather than take a new DM series. Big, heavy sprung, triple frame yet they could not keep an axle or a rear end intact. I have driven other Macks up to about 1998 off and on, they all seemed to be pretty good. My all time favorite though was the 66 R600 with a quadraplex.

Mack should have merged with Scania, the Swedish truck manufacture and Volvo’s biggest competitor.
Scania and Mack had a lot of collaborations, it started in the 50’s with Scania buying bus chassis from Mack, Scania delivered many engines to Mack and together in a joint venture they developed the legendary V8 diesel, which Scania uses today, 16L and 730 hp.
But around year 2000 Volvo as the new owner to Mack stopped all this, Mack was going to use Volvo’s largest engine which was under development

allways though of macks as a generic truck.should all be black & white with TRUCK on hood instead of MACK.they can do about everything on average.but cant do one thing really well.guess thats why at one time they ruled the market for garbage & dump trucks many years ago.

I was never a Mack fan until I fixed one that had no power. A DM model with a 300 hp Mack engine twin stick. One I figured out it's power issue you could load 20 yards of gravel on it pull out of the pit and in 4 gears be doing 60 mph, go through a town at 35 mph in high gear and climb a hill without shifting, the bulldog would just growl, that changed my mind on what a MACK really is

@@RJ1999x FRom the 237 to the 300 and 300-plus jobs, the torque rise was incredible! 12 or 13 to 2100 and pull solid from one end to the other. A 3406B would come really close if someone knew how to set one up. But the old ones were the best. .

@@lewiemcneely9143 Drove a CL730 with a 400 Mack for a few days helping a friend, load 73000# out of a pit and push every cat and Cummins up a hill at 65. In fact you could start the bottom of the grade at 65 and top it at 73, while 500+ cats and Cummins would back off and grab gears. The MACK would drop a few RPMs and just lean into it, turbo screaming big dog growling and just pull. Guys on the CB would ask what motor and the HP . Those 2 trucks made me into a MACK believer
