I have a friend who is an executive at CAT. He's a great guy, but I believe that hamstringing truckers, farmers, commercial fishermen, etc., with proprietary maintenance restrictions is what is driving many independents out of business. America was not built on those principles! It was built by guys like you, who are independents and scratch out a living by doing, learning and becoming experts at what they do. Do some independents buy black market (China) programs to help them with proprietary codes, passwords and such? Of course, but they have no choice if they want to remain profitable and independent in the first place. These codes, passwords, etc, should be part of the purchase price of the equipment and should be transferrable as well. An unforeseen consequence of this is guys keeping older equipment running for years/decades because they don't require the queertrons to fix a simple time critical maintenance issue.

It's crazy seeing a complete engine in application. I've installed thousands of peanut covers, head cams, fuel injectors, rocker arms, and tri sensors in thousands of engines but I'm on a pretty early stage of assembly so I don't get to see the finished product unless I see one of our vehicles in the field

Trick for getting the peanut cover bolts out is to use an air hammer powered bit holder.

It works equally amazing on floor pan #3 Phillip's as well for those trucks that spend time in the mines or haul roads

You used to get on youtube and the videos we're truly 100% random all the time, everything in the suggested areas on the side was videos of stuff completely irrelevant from eachother, youtube content didn't follow any sort of formulas back then it was random and unpredictable all the time, now you have to go out of your way to try and find good videos and it's always trying to find what you "want to watch more of" its a fucking bullshit ass lie nobody ever wanted any of it they just think everyone wants to see the same thing all the time without even asking us

I read a ton of comments after watching the video, I wanted to make some kind of comment that didn't show my illiteracy to bad. I'm 72 and most of my years of wrenching laying on my back on some island in alaska were on diesel related problems. I did my share of detroit's, cummins and cats. Not to mention murphys and other of name old equipment we had to work with but the equipment came to me when no one else would take a shot at it. I've done infreams and full rebuilds. I am not a school learned mechanic but just pulled wrench's since I was to young to argue with dad. From doing king pins to doing cam bearings was kinda my school of do it till you get it or blow it up and the first engine did do just that and it come out of my wages. I took pictures when it was possible but many times that just wasn't the case. From changing swing motors in loaders to head bolts in macks. I got better with time but wouldn't trust myself with the new stuff that came out more or less when I quit. I got tore up from the floor up and the one thing I learned real good was if it was cat yellow it was because they thought it was gold and it was by the time it got out to the remote camps where you worked when everyone was asleep. Gold streak the parts in and a week later you got the parts so you had five or more rigs to work on at any one time. I can remember coming in for dinner thinking that was what time it was and I was grease from op to bottom but scrubbed as much off as I could. The boss made me a seat at the cook shake that day and told the cook that the grill was on for me at any time I came in but he also knew that I saved him thousands of dollars. He even flew me in a bottle of expensive whiskey once with don't share it with the crew till they wash parts for you/LOL. I was always tired but I made twice what anyone in camp did and he gave me bonuses for the good work I provided him. As far as flashing and setting ecms it never hit my wheelhouse and I changed the timing set on a 1693 cat motor that was our lowboy truck. Ya I turned up the pumps and I did stuff that I ain't proud of but it was what the boss wanted and I gave it to him. I'd put my mony on the young man who puts his hands on the wheel everyday and isn't afraid of grease

Good video..... Only drove one truck with a Cat in it and that was a1985 Ford CL9000. It was a 425 horse (don't remember the engine 3406 maybe?) Been a LONG time and I wasn't really into trucks just needed a job bad. Pulled logs and equipment with it. It would pull. Not run fast but damn pull. I do remember that. Don't let folks get you riled up. You know what you are doing. Sometimes you have to step out the confort zone and try stuff. Only way you will find out if it works.

I myself had my truck did the same way but a lil different and it cost me out the butt. I originally had a stock 3406e then changed it with two piece Teflon coated pistons 60’s injectors 800 hp cam and 550 jake braker tune which I fried two piston cost she was rolling the coals . Now I rebuilt it again differently I changed the manifold to a bully dog ceramic coated and bully dog turbo and arp stainless steel boats. I went back to 58’s injectors to stop the coals and I might change the tune will post a new video shorty of the change

I just got a rebuild on my 3406 e cat. They wouldnt turn it up or build it to a 550 because they said the 10 speed wouldnt handle the torque. Well, guess its time to snatch it out, looking for a 13.

@fomoco 🇺🇸 My brother brought home a cabover Marmon that had a Cat. I fell in love with Cats at that point. It ran harder, faster, smoother & really gave him much better service than the previous truck with a Cummins. We’ve had Detroits, Cummins, Cat & IH engines and have had many good engines out of the bunch. 🥰🤩✌️

Beautiful job! I have a Deuce and a Half with a White turbo diesel multi-fueler in it and a 'C' whistler turbo. Been a while since it has been on the road due to a faulty master cylinder. One of my close friends is an independent trucker so I shared this video with him.

Any driver that can and will work on their own truck Is a winner in my book. Most drivers now a day don't know how to check the oil level much less change it. The only tool they carry is a cell phone.

I don’t know shit about Diesel engine, but in the 70s we would put big cams and carburetors on or 427,454 ,440,383 inch, and did not even think about the rest of the engine, but it sounded great and our pals were impressed !
