The reason that the Gen 5 is quieter than the 4 is because they've replaced a metal cog with a plastic one in the 5. I wonder how long this plastic cog will last and if spares are readily available when the motor is out of warranty?
The gen4 motor has considerable 'drag' after the assistance turns off at 25km/h, that is not present on other motors like Siemens. It makes pedaling so much more cumbersome. Unless Bosch is getting rid of that drag, the motor of my next bike will be from some other manufacturer...
Your frustration is totally understandable, and you're not alone in feeling this! That drag on the gen 4 motor can be a real downside, especially when it feels like you're fighting the bike past the 25 kmph limit. ...

Good point! The plastic cog makes it quieter, but durability is a concern. Hopefully, replacements are easy to find after the warranty ends.
i have shimano E6000, all gears are made of plastic, 7000km and its OK, but today i got CX4 ebike and its much better haha
