I’m thankful for these weird and poorly thought out releases only to hear your humorous no BS reviews on them! Hope you and the labels keep em coming!! Cheers Robert!
That interview discussing the (deeper?) meaning of Whitesnake's Slide it In sounds great! I'd like to see other reissues like this. Who wouldn't love to hear the Doors cover of Back Door Man, followed by an immersive discussion with Willie Dixon on the spiritual nuances of that gem?
Thanks for the video Robert! Sometimes artists have to take a trip down the path less traveled to get inspired and dig out what they originally were best at. Maybe this was a cleansing the pallet moment for Andre? Im a jazz fan so I didnt mind him doing this. On the other hand the album doesn’t do much for me creatively, artistically or in an entertaining way. But kudos to Andre for doing his thang. Maybe his blank pallet will now be able to be filled with a great hip/hop rap album as a reward. Damn, I was hoping for digital wood instrumental interludes in between songs on the japanese White Snake :(. Instead we get interviews! Missed opportunity! Robert attacking Matchbox 20, next he will be saying that Rearview Mirror is not as good as Dark Side Of The Moon. Im appalled! Yeah, Atlantic has this huge catalogue…and what do they pick..?…geesh. Par for course on album selection tastes when it comes to audiophile many times. I was just listening to the new Vampire Weekend this morning. Lots of melody, yet interesting creative change ups. In places it almost sounds like ColdPlay (the few good aspects of ColdPlay) Jonesing for more records? My suggestions: William Elliot Whitmore-Silently, The Mind Breaks (very good country album) The Last Dinner Party - Prelude To Ecstasy (Really good indie pop sprinkled with modern-ish prog that is hooky) Gruff Rhys- Sadness Sets Me Free (Very good album that gives comfort at the same time misery is the topic. Love the guys voice. Reminds me a bit of Bill Callahan) Tons of new stuff to explore without being MatchBox 20’d.
Great reviews! Thanks for demystifying the Andre 3000, I had the feeling it would sound like a Paul Horn outtakes collection. The Matchbox 20 assessment is absolutely hilarious. Bravo! EDIT - really appreciate the new releases you do recommend. Ohio Players LPs are being reissued by Westbound/Org Music, btw, if you wish to (re)assess ... cheers
Funnily enough, the Japanese "American Remix Version" of Slide It In actually has only five songs off the original LP, because it includes the Japanese bonus track Need Your Love So Bad (which is a Little Willie John cover, to make things worse 😅) as the sixth track. At least, you don't have to listen to David Coverdale explaining the meaning of Spit It Out as it's not included 🤣.
A few years ago I heard the original version of Here I Go Again that said "hobo" instead of "drifter". I thought I was experiencing a Mandela Effect moment.
A few years back I found a Paul Simon Graceland in Goodwill and grabbed it, visually it was in great condition. But I didn't pay attention to the label and the "fine print" on the cover, because while it was Graceland, it had these radio interviews interspersed throughout. No wonder it was only $1, so yeah, lesson learned. Pay attention to what you're buying. I actually might like the Andre 3000 album, but not for $80. I'll pass on that, thank you! "Crystal clear shit," will become a classic tag, lol.
Matchbox 20, hmmm. Ok I had to go and listen to some of those mentioned as I didn’t recall what they sounded like. All I remember was one of my kids had this cd and I’m sure played it a lot ( yes I’m guilty of buying it I guess) . The only song I recall was back to good. I assume this is the one I heard a lot as it was familiar. Yeah not vinyl worthy.
Andre 3000 has just done his "Metal Machine Music". Or maybe a Zamfir tribute!!! Very pretentious. Prince did instrumental stuff like N.E.W.S and actually sounded great.
Hallo Robert, you love Pink Floyd, me to, but do you like Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson also, like to hear your optionion . Andre from the Netherlands
Regarding the Japanese Whitesnake album, are the interviews entirely in English? If so, my guess is it was accidentally cut from a tape for a radio show for the US market (I say US market since it is labeled as the US remix). You know radio inside and out, does it have that kind of "feel" to it? It seems weird that a Japanese pressing would have spoken passages entirely in English. They speak some, obviously, but usually not fluently enough to devote album space to interviews in it. Hilarious take on Matchbox 20. I wonder if there will be an RSD 12" of (The Grammy Award-Winning 1999 Hit) Smooth by Santana feat. Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 (Off The Multi-Platinum Album Supernatural).
The interview segments are completely separate from the songs, so it doesn't really sound like a radio show. Just another element that makes it bizarre.
No wonder you like OutKast Robert- they don't sample anything. Their beats and instrumentation are all originals. That's one of the things I respected about them. EDIT: I love how TH-cam tries to ram Domino's two topping pizzas down your throat not even a minute into your videos. Like wtf 🙄
The guy on the front of the Matchbox Twenty album, Frank Torres, sued the band. From the American Songwriter website: Torres said the band did not have his permission for the album, noting that he was just walking down the street one day when a photographer asked him to pose for a picture. He had no idea it would become a multi-platinum album cover and he wanted money. Torres added that Matchbox Twenty “knowingly, intentionally, and maliciously” took advantage of him. Torres died in 2016. The lawsuit was dismissed. Perhaps this was a case of bad faith and bad music.
I didn’t know who Andre 3000 was, I knew he was a hip hop artist, but the album is getting rave reviews and Carlos Nina plays on it with him. I adore him. Have a bunch of his recordings, but he is NOT jazz at all. I almost bought it. Then i saw the price and NOPED
"remember...it's matchbox 20.." : LMFAO!! there are better albums from the atlantic catalogue. how about a decent priced re-issue of STP's 3rd album? but naw...we get matchbox fkn twenty...
I really think the record companies are testing us on how much we would spent on new vinyl record releases... I like the new album but I won't pay that price for a newly pressed triple lp !
@@Stonecutter334 50 bucks was the price I was expecting when I heard the album back in November 23. But when I saw a price of 85 bucks for pre-order I thought that it was a mistake.... This is nothing else than greed of the record company. And the 3 lp's don't even come with poly-ethylen protected inner sleeves but just in paper or cardboard sleeves !!!

Thanks! It's a dirty job, but....
"People it's Matchbox 20" Robert Fithen You are a HOOT..........my new catch phrase for the month "People it's Matchbox 20!" And thats agood thin!
The Matchbox 20 release is for the same people waiting for the Hoobastank boxset
As always Robert, appreciate the direct (and humerous) take on your channel. Might be time for a 'Buyer Beware' series? Kudos!
"Crystal clear shit"....what a GREAT truth about the Matchbox 20 Analogue Productions release.
😂🤣
That made my wife cry with laughter. So glad I married a indie/punk rock girl

I wasn’t expecting the matchbox 20 slander but that’s so funny
Best review of matchbox 20 ever, crystal clear shit!
The matchbox 20 warning is so crucial
Thanks for the video Robert!

Solid use of the word esoteric
Plane-arium jams🤘 thanks for the heads up. At least folks are being creative i guess.except Coverdale..
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day Robert also how is the family ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I don't know much about Andre 3000 but Key & Peele did a funny sketch about him...
Man, you are brutal 🤣😂 Also, a Shadowfax reference? I don't even know who you are anymore. lol Charles
I like Matchbox 20, especially when it it is 3 AM.
At least the art on the cover of Andre 3000's record is nice. Did he make it? I couldn't find the artist's name on line.

Great fun and honest- appreciated!!
I gave the Andre 10/10 when the digital came out. 85 for vinyl is crazy
I almost bought it cuz i love Carlos Nina who plays on it with him, but $80??? Nope
@hubtunes9607 I may end up with a 24 dollar CD
A few years ago I heard the original version of Here I Go Again that said "hobo" instead of "drifter". I thought I was experiencing a Mandela Effect moment.
Well if the Andre 3000 tanks he can always make a country album
😂😂😂
The description of that new pussy record. Made me think of oretty much every album i had from Crypt and Estrus records.

The Whitesnake album is odd because it doesn't mention the interviews anywhere. I'm hoping at least the Paul Simon was the full album.
LOL thanks for the warning on the Matchbox 20
I see 10 hours ago Disney just released the official trailer The Beach Boys. I thought you would like to know that, Robert.
Thanks for the warning. lol
lol, Another masterful review that is also entertaining. I am now a little unwell.
Thanks!! Hopefully you'll be Back 2 Good soon.

Was it my facial expression? lol
Andre album sounds up my alley
Thabk you for letting us know that the Matchbox 20 album sounds like a Matchbox 20 album and saving me $75 😅
I have that Matchbox 20 on cd and i like it, i would play it now of course 😁😉😉
Andre 3000 has just done his "Metal Machine Music". Or maybe a Zamfir tribute!!! Very pretentious. Prince did instrumental stuff like N.E.W.S and actually sounded great.
I avoided that Andre 3000 crap like the plague 🤣
Hallo Robert, you love Pink Floyd, me to, but do you like Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson also, like to hear your optionion . Andre from the Netherlands
I'm more familiar with Steven Wilson and have a couple of his albums I've talked about in earlier videos. Not a fan of the artwork, though.
Man I always hated crapbox 20 and that stupid album cover.
I always hated that album cover too.

Im sure people get paid for favorable reviews by record companys .so the dark side of the music grift comes foward.
Another reason that I just stick with everyday people on TH-cam.
What record player do you use Robert? Have any favorites? Do you own more than one?
I only use one now and it's the best-sounding one I've ever owned. Rega P3. The only thing I don't like is that it is cumbersome to.change speeds.
@@RobertFithen cool, always curious as to what everyone uses. I buy turntables and fix them for fun

A bad album made even worse by this information.
I'm getting the impression you don't like Matchbox 20. Lol. I get it. I'm not a fan either.
You can't turn a Matchbox 20 into a Matchbox 40 just because it gets released on vinyl.
Crystal Clear Shit, too good!
Matchbox 20/ you can't polish a turd 😂 edit: they couldve done Back in Black...
So basically the Matchbox 20 is a polished turd.
Maybe Great White was sorting Angel Dust.
The Great Whitesnake
Maroon 5 made me forget how much I disliked Matchbox 20. 😂
I still had to play both on the radio for years. At least Maron had the decency to stay in the cd era lol

Andre 3000 - Music For Greenhouses .. No Thanks 👎
the old 97s, black keys and vampire weekend suck. i rather have the matchbox 20.
lol
New Blue Sun is mediocre. Andre 3000 is an amateur on this record. A lot of better records out there with this sound.
