Lake Cachuma

Join us on a lovely 5-mile out-and-back lakeside trail along Lake Cachuma in Barbara County, California. The Sweetwater Trail offers plenty of ups and downs along the way and pretty views of the pristine lake, surrounded by the Santa Ynez and San Rafael mountains. Our outing featured a bonus friendly encounter with a furry tarantula scampering along near the dam. Joining us on this beautiful day were our son, Andrew, daughter-in-law, Ali, and their little four-legged companion, Archie, who live in Santa Barbara.
We started at Lake Cachuma Recreation Area ($10 usage fee per vehicle) then hiked to the Cachuma Lake Vista Point at Bradbury Dam and back again. The hike can be done in reverse, starting at the Vista Point parking lot where there is no fee.
