Trust me I will not buy them... I mean unless I can send you a totally messed up board and you like fixing those haha. Nothing but flux and solder everywhere... I can see it now 🔥⚡🚃
Very cool that SMA and Pine Hollow send some views (and sometimes problems) your way and you send Louis Rossmann some views for the good flux (must include NorthridgeFix also). A great bunch of teachers that not everybody knows about.
I was waiting for Keith the get out the braided copper wick thing that Louis uses to clean the contacts before soldering on the new chip. I also get here from SMA.
Sooooo I had the exact same issue. 2007 frontier bad ecu (non immobilized) I purchased a 2007 xtera ecu with an immobilizer and literally used the heat gun to lift the chip off on and put on the other.. no flux, no tape no nothing.. I know your way is the best safest method but I needed my truck back running and this video saved me at least $400. Truck runs flawless!! Thanks for this video! Subscribed!
New subscriber here, Dr. O sent me. I'm an old school, home shop on the side mechanic. However, even if I never have to do anything like this, I like learning about this kind of thing.
SMA sent me over here, I was already subscribed from New Level Auto. Very Interesting work! This stuff interests me more than doing the heavy mechanical work on vehicles.
Back in the 1970s and 1980s I used to do EPROM programming, and it was NOTHING like this. lol I had no idea how those components were changed out. What an eye opener.
Erik is very good at looking for electrical faults, and you are probably very good at stt fixing data boxes, Eric said that you were very good. sweden 8/1 12.34 👍
Thanks so much for showing a simple way of removing & installing computer chips. Great work. When Eric O. reinstalled this repaired ECM into the 2005 Nissan Frontier truck, it worked!
i watch all of south main autos videos when he uploads them an from what i seen in nissan p1705 video an you sir are the real MVP i hope you an SMA do more videos helping an teaching others your knowledge in automotive an small electronics pcms bcm tcms etc keep up the great work
Sir you did excellent... But when you were adding pin strip during the soldering soldering iron would be better to another angle. That would damage smd resistors
SMA sent me. So, @510k subs, SMA is small...lol. Thanks for helping Eric out. Poor owner of that Frontier, multiple parts cannons fired at it, who knows how much wasted cash....and it all boiled down to a wrong ecm chip. Subbed. Nice work, great explanation.
SMA to blame - now subscribed :) I've watched a lot of videos that include yourself, Eric, and Ivan. All awesome, fun, super helpful, and informative channels!! SouthMainAuto & Pinehollowautodiagnostics
Hi Keith, Came right here from S.M.A. in regards to the 05' Frontier. I've been watching Eric's channel for many years now. Up until this video, I was unaware this channel existed. I must say though, this is an awesome channel and a new subscription for me. Looking forward to going back and watching your previous vids as well as your future content as well. 👍
I did solder work for decades but they never let us do hot air soldering. So easy! Question - we always had to clean the rosin flux off, did that stuff you used need cleaning? Also it looked like one board was conformal coated and the other wasn't. Did you remove/ apply conformal coat?
Loved the colab. I was making bets that the ecm would not work because Nissan is the devil. I have delt with Nissan diagnostic in the past and opted out of getting used modules because of Eric O problems. SMA sent me. But to be fair, the truck he was working on was a hot mess from the get go and with multiple parts changed out I would have thrown in the towel.
Good to see ya Keith been awhile brother great work on this one watched Eric O and his frustration on the Nissan frontier @L1AutomotiveTraning @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
I bet the used/salvage computer came from a vehicle that had cable throttle. The vehicle and OG PCM has drive by wire. The trans module is looking for a pedal position PID that isn't present in a cable throttle PCM.
Eric O sent me too. Great channel and my first time viewing it. Hey TH-cam….Why wasn’t this channel recommended to me based on my viewing history? Maybe you should hire L1 to fix your algorithms.
I blame Eric O for adding this channel to my list of fascinating things to watch. I am genuinely confused on how no additional solder was used here to get this new component back on the board. That was some kind of voodoo wizardry... I'm hoping you have some additional videos on here discussing captains tape, and this whole process.
Hi,nice work.I'm new to your channel but i can see from the comments there is a lot of interest in what this entails.I like to watch Eric and Ivan, and also watch computer diag.and repairs with hot air stations etc as tools.I'm interested in see the code if you figured it out.Or just the number difference on the e prom chip. And how you figured that was the chip.IT'S part of my OCD issue, haha I fix or break laptops for fun,for me hardware is not and issue ,it's the software that takes brains.thanks to Eric you should now have about 2.no 10 new viewers>>oops I MEANT 10,000 VIEWERS you know cause he has such a small channel!!!haha
Is there somewhere that you have the non immo data available? Or do you know what small difference the data is. Like by marine just changing one or two of the addresses to FF or something. As an automotive locksmith that data would be golden for some of those pesky Nissans that are in lock out mode
I am interested because some shady guy over in Avoca sent me, now I am also a subscriber :) If you are his go to guy, then you certainly deserve a great deal of respect from us all as well.
I sense the Rossmann force is strong with this one. 🤣😂 Have you ever considered repairing damaged furnace/boiler/heat pump PCB's? I work in the HVAC field and keep almost* every PCB I can get through repairs or warranty work. Most times I can repair them with the help of Digikey/Mouser and make a little $$ on the side. As long as the MCU/software is ok, the boards are usually repairable (and if corrosion hasn't eaten the board to death). Relays and/or Darlington arrays are usually the culprits for your average furnace control board. Thanks for the video!
Erio O. sent me over to see how you fixed the Nissan's ECU. Very cool video 👍 It's funny you call his channel "tiny", where he's got over half a million subscribers. Maybe you both can help build each other's sub base up thru shoutouts. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work!
Coming over from SMA... Nice job. Love the camera work. Interesting that you can download the eprom from both. You must a large library of 'digitial' info.
Hi, I haven't seen your channel until now. Do you always tend to use hot air for surface-mount chip removal? Have you used stuff like Chip Quik (low-temp solder) before?
@@L1Training Thank you for replying! At my previous job I would occasionally do SMD chip replacement, but I never had access to a hot air gun. I had to blob on copious amounts of regular solder and use a tweezers-type soldering tool to keep both sides melted. I never realized one of the benefits of hot air was being able to re-use the old solder that could remain on the board.

Eric O has a sound effect for brake clean! You need one for flux!🤣🤣
A guy from a small channel set me. I came to see you give it the full beans.
And just remember viewers, if I can do it you can do it

Cool channel, SMA sent me as well... I had a good chuckle when u called his channel small 🤣
'Well, with this channel's 11K subscribers versus Eric's 510K plus subscribers I think there's a little bit of envy creeping out.
Erico sent me here as well I love his channel and now I love yours
Possible sarcasm? Lol
Eric sent me to boost your low viewer numbers lol , Nice job on the fix.
South Main Auto to here, this reminds me of the repairs Louis Rossmann does on Apple products. You guys make SMD changeouts look easy.
I was waiting for Keith the get out the braided copper wick thing that Louis uses to clean the contacts before soldering on the new chip. I also get here from SMA.
I thought the same. I used to watch Louis religiously until I came to the conclusion that he was a complete tool and I unsubscribed from his channel.
Louis is a BOSS!!!!!
When fixing macs 👍👍
@@adambell2068 why do you think he's complete tool?
LOL I thought the same thing!
"there's your problem, lady!"
Ope
lady you have a problem but you hired the best to fix it

I'm just a Nissan guy who likes the SMA and crew channel... So of course I subscribed !
...and we segue from SMA to SMD rework. Nicely done.
Here from SMA, Excellent work sir.
SMA sent me. Takes a smart man, to know when he needs a smarter man to help!
Unsoldering that was probably the coolest thing I've seen in awhile. Never seen it done like that before
Hello, SMA sent me here as well and that was a pretty cool swap. You have a job for life.
Dis guy from Avoca told me to check this channel out, I subscribed.
Hey you are me.

Dave's not here man!
SMA sent me too. That moment when the solder melted and pulled the replacement chip into perfect alignment was the coolest thing I've seen all day.
I know right, I told hi, the same thing haha
The solder sucking it in was very satisfying
SMA sent me over, nice job Keith.
with you, eric o, jim the car guy, and ivan there is no need for tv in my house. incredible team work
Nice, you made that look easy, nice to see honest people like you and Eric team up to help someone get their vehicle back on the road.
That was badass. I never knew such a repair was even possible. Now I know two people who are smarter than a computer, you and Eric.
Eric, Very glad Keith was able to help you out! I know how annoying not being able to track down AND repair the problem part can be! Congrats!
Also just came from SMA . . . Last year I resolder a connector on my '01 Dakota ABS module and that fixed the ABS light.
Eric sent me. Wow, you guys used team work to get this one figure out. Yeah, SMA is a small channel. (ha ha)
Louis would be proud of you, you made sure the chip was perfectly lined up. He normally just throws it on with no care if its perfect. Lol
