Preparing to LIVE IN THE CAR again, cleaning off the dust

- Back to back summertime housesits have dried up and today we went out the car to clean it up a bit in preparation for our eventual return.
We also don't want the car to look abandoned, so that the chance that it may be towed will be lower, now that the law in California has changed.

. A long time ago, I was reminded that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. At the time, I was heartbroken and, recovering from a traumatic family situation. So, I got busy, found a job and did my best to get my mind off my miseries. It helped. I know that it would help you both as well. You have to stay busy to not let your mind wander and hyper focus on things. I mentioned this before….I am in my 60s and my husband is almost 70. We are both still working. My job is stressful. My husband’s job is very physical. Nothing was ever handed to us. Not jobs or money or a home. We had to work hard for everything. I can’t retire because I need medical benefits. I would never qualify for MediCal. I wish I could retire because I am tired of the stress and working nights. I like you guys. You seem to be nice, young people. But, you have to hustle it up some and take the advice I was given all those years ago. Get steady jobs. Move up. Then, move up some more. Keep moving up. In ten years from now, you could look back and see how far you came and how hard you worked to get there. Being idle makes one more depressed. You both can do it! For years, we had an employee that was paraplegic. He came to work everyday in his wheelchair. If there is a will than there is a way. Find a way. I’m cheering you both on and, praying for you.
I get it. I’m in you guys era and people just go to social media and sometimes they want people to feel pity for them. And people will send them their hard earned money, where their parents where is their family?

I think social media has made this generation lazy and entitled independent on other peoples income. I like them too. They seem to be a nice couple

@@cindyfrye2581 the problem is the transportation, not everyone is close to a bus stop or can walk that far to a job. Some have limitations I have had two back surgeries which there would no way I could walk even to a bus stop which we don’t even have in my small town, not all of us can ride a bike either. So their situation is very difficult there are not always lifts or Ubers available as well and the cost adds up. It’s a sad situation for many many people out there and people don’t have family support to help them nor do I . I have a car and I work out of my home so I am blessed . But I do rent and fear the landlord will go up on my rent which would make it very hard for me to pay more , one reason I have to continue to work some on my disability to even live and buy food . I’m single and alone at 64 and it is a scary situation out there in the world, You are both in my prayers .

I'd use those blankets to put where seats dip so it's not dipping and use the back hatch to get more ventilation...u can put some blankets or anything in between the seats where they fold down it will level it out some I had that same car when I was in Ohio and slept in it. . Anyway keep headed up. Turn key to and put in neutral you can push it so your wheels are rotated and not in same spot before they rot.
We already filled the dip multiple times with multiple things. We can’t keep the back open because the arms are broken

Hey Guys I hope all is well. I am a little late watching this but I have an idea you might want to try with your car window. I had my car window get stuck one time and I was apply to push my glass up with my hands. One hand on the inside glass and one had on the outside glass ( mirror you hands ) and push up. It took awhile but I eventually got it up, may work.
I did the same with a broke window I had. And it did work😊
I know you need your car, even if it doesn't run, as a place to sleep if needed but have you ever looked into what you could get for selling it? I see people on Marketplace and Craiglist sell cars that don't run all the time, people buy them to fix or for parts. If you could make a decent amount for it then maybe you'd have enough with what you have saved, to buy a better car?

@jesandjay Respectfully, I don't think the question was answered. He seems to be able to help you with the house sitting duties. Unless he's just laying up, and you're doing all of the work. I guess you guys don't believe in God, and that's fine, but a higher power is saving you two from being completely destitute and actually sleeping on the concrete.

Housesits are safe alone! Everyone is background checked. But yes, I prefer to be together and glad we are

Why dont you take the front driver and passenger seats out since the car wont run anymore. It would give you both more room to stretch out and sleep in?
This is a good idea but disposing of them would be tricky
@alexpaulson2062 Maybe the shopping center the car is parked at has dumpsters. It doesn't seem like a patrolled or picky parking lot. Or a nearby apt complex dumpsters. Or the dump. Maybe next time they rent a flex car they could just throw the seats in the trunk or back seat area. Bc when winter comes there might be less house sitting jobs so they might be spending more time in their vehicle and if the car will never run again or cant be registered and insured etc there's no need for the front or passenger seats. All their windows are covered so they don't need the seats to make the car look normal to anyone looking inside. Unless they like sitting in the front seats. I would take them out and get a piece of plywood cut to fit that space. Level it out and get a memory foam mattress or air mattress to lay down on.
We tried but there’s a lot of power cables etc attached that we don’t have tools for + we have nowhere to put the seats after
The parking lot is patrolled 24/7 with armed security. And we already spent one winter in the car , we can unfortunately do it again

Like there are in the spring and summer. It makes me feel so bad whenever they have to sleep in the car😢

Get a box of "bug foggers" in a can [usually 3 cans to a box] at Walmart or Lowe's, places like that. You shake the can & push down a lever & close the doors...not really made for such a small space as a car. but it will help a lot. leave car closed up overnight or at least 4 hours. **hope this idea is useful (I hate bugs of any kind too~~I'm knowing your pain here!!)

I commented a really kind post but you never even replied . There is two of you, maybe you need to leave the most blue state that’s the most expensive and the most homeless people . Figure it out, you’re both young . No one is going to just give you things ..I have depression but I have worked my ass off for 47 years as a hairdresser. Maybe when someone post a kind comment you might want to acknowledge us.

They both get disability, they don't have the usual bills that even low income people have (rent, tenant insurance, car insurance, gas, utilities, cable, internet etc) so between living in their car occasionally and free housing at housesits, they should be able to save a good bit of their monthly disability income checks. plus some housesits pay them. plus they have cleaning jobs. and what they make on youtube and their other social media platforms. i think this is all just a big long slow grift. their videos are all so down and depressing and all they talk about is what they don't have or can't afford. times are tough for most people these days. and many struggle with mental health issues as well. just saying

Hope it all goes well. Why did you let your car get like that? Don’t know your story and not being disrespectful but that’s one sure way to draw attention to an abandoned car. It will get towed in 3 days if not moved. Don’t let that happen it’s so expensive to get out.
