I take my family on a near-hour drive across the city, passing at least four closer N.O. parishes to attend the Latin Mass at a small SSPX chapel. It is beautiful and thoroughly Catholic, as opposed to what the diocesan parishes offered.
It is what I have been robbed of, by what I can only fathom is a robber council. How do I know, why make such an assertion? It took me a short time to realize what the Mass is, being confronted by the true liturgy in contrast to what I was presented as the Mass for so many years.
A stark contrast. The liturgy is humble but rich with meaning. The prayers are penetrating to the soul, focusing us on the gravity of the sacrifice of Calvary and the connection to our sins and urgent need for repentance, with a reminder of the reality of hell if we do not. It’s not the wishy washy dialogue of be nice and get along and “oh God gets me”. That’s Protestantism.

@@Hope_Boat No. Not so fast. You have to be smarter than that. We are in communion with THE OFFICE of Peter, the church, not merely the man who is currently in the office. If you’ve ever been in the military you’ll understand this better than most. Christians need to stop pretending that their particular brand of Christian church is full of perfection and you need to stop conflating principles with people.
If a country has a bad king, or a bad prime minister do you don’t just abandon your country because you don’t like the leadership. You don’t just destroy the institution because the people currently running it a bad guys, misguided etc or even set one up in opposition….thats how wars start and countries are destroyed.
I’m sure you have many counter arguments and other things you can say but if you are an anti-catholic orthodox-ist Christian you’re not going to help anyone here.
Look at your sight and not what you’ve seen.
I don’t think Jesus Christ would be very impressed with all this stuff. We should be talking about how we CAN/COULD reunify the church instead of poaching people.
Maybe when the churches can start sorting out all the doctrinal issues and teaching properly again this sideline issue will stop being treated as the main game.
How about the orthodox and catholics start pressuring their hierarchies to actually get back together and figure out what needs to be sorted so we can be ONE, holy, catholic, apostolic and Orthodox Church again.
Don’t pretend the Orthodox Church doesn’t have problems of bad leadership/bad guys in good offices or modernism creeping around because it absolutely does.
We are well aware that the current pope is a pain in the ass. He’s still in Peter’s chair.
The *healing* of the schism is the issue here.
Unfortunately that wouldn’t suit the political classes now would it….

Thank you, Fr. David, you are a very welcome voice I most needed to hear right now.
Your concerns regarding the efficacy of the mass and sacraments are consistent with the book I just read, “Work of Human Hands” written by Reverend Anthony Cekada. This book is a detail-referenced critique of the Novus Ordus mass. It explains every haunting detail of how the Novus Ordo mass was designed to adapt our worship and theology to Protestantism.
Sooo much has been hidden from us, both the laity and seminarians. While reading the book, I was overwhelmed with a soul-crushing feeling of betrayal…like being an obedient sheep being led to the edge of a cliff for most of my life.
Now my human sense of logic and reason poses a series of troubling questions. Can we ever know convincingly whether the watered-down Novus Ordus prayers of this mass and sacraments bestow the graces from the Holy Spirit that the traditional Catholic prayers have given us for centuries? Is it possible the absence of specific prayers passed down by Apostolic succession void the presence of the Holy Spirit? Spoken words do matter. Have I (and my children) been made to adapt to a Protestant mass theology without my consent? Pray for our One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.✝️

I live in Dallas, TX. Eucharistic Prayer I which is the Roman Canon is almost never prayed. I hear it maybe a handful of times throughout the year. Eucharistic Prayer II is the most offered prayer. No matter how conservative or liberal the priest, he sticks primarily to Eucharistic Prayer II. Eucharistic Prayer III is the next popular prayer which is offered on Sundays.
If I were a priest, I would offer only Eucharistic Prayer I. Then, I realize that if I did that, the bishop would probably call me into his office and sternly rebuke me. He would insist that I make Eucharistic Prayer II my regular prayer.
As a priest, I would offer confession seven days a week. Again, I am sure I would be singled out by the bishop and rebuked. He would tell me to stick to confessions only two days a week for one hour at a time.
Does anyone disagree with this? If not, then my question is what is wrong with our bishops and leadership?

I was born in 1946 and I went to Catholic grade school taught by Benedictine nuns. We over 8 years had 2 really bad nuns who were mean and 1 of those was the screamer. We would all be quiet and doing our work except other kids were always asking me if they could borrow notebook paper. My parents were struggling financially, but they made sure I had notebook paper and other kids didn’t have any. My dad got tired of me saying I was out of paper but I couldn’t tell the kids no because we weren’t supposed to talk. I did tell them no that my dad told me to stop providing other kids with paper. I don’t know how the nuns could hear with the ears covered but they did and I did get punished for talking, even though I whispered. The screamer nun would just start screaming and we never knew why, finally the other nuns knew she was crazy and they pulled her out and sent her back to the convent. We expected that we had rules to follow and we were really good kids compared to now. We grew up being disciplined and punished if we didn’t behave. I made all of my sacraments including the Sacrament of Matrimony with a Latin Mass. I married a Catholic who had served Mass in his parish. I really didn’t like when they stopped the Latin Mass, I liked our traditions and I knew when the priest was told to move the Tabernacle out of the center with the priest facing it that The Eucharist was no longer the center of the worship. They elevated the priests to the center of attention. So we didn’t have any parish’s that had Latin Mass. then when I found out my parish priests where I had my children make their Sacraments except Baptism was having G*y S*x parties in the rectory with other young men, they got caught and it was all over the TV news, I thought surely the Archbishop would defrock them and remove them but he didn’t. He transferred the young one but left the older man as the pastor and a few weeks later I saw him in a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, black shoes and socks and full face makeup with red rouge circles and red lipstick trying to purchase childrens toys at a discount store and demanding a discount from the clerk, but she refused and he got really angry. We quit going because I tried to find a better parish and we couldn’t find a good and holy priest like Bishop Strickland. I know Francis is an Antipope and his purpose is to destroy the Catholic Church. I am so sad about what they are doing. I know this must be the End Times. These are sad times in my lifetime and I know longer feel good about the Catholic Church. I really think Jesus will have to come and reestablish His Church on Earth or move the good to Heaven. Catholics were never taught that there was going to be a Rapture, that is a Protestant theology. I know we have been told there will be End Times and Tribulation but I admit I don’t know what will happen. I love Jesus Christ and the Father, the Holy Spirit is a little harder to understand and how the Trinity is 3 persons in one God. I admit I don’t understand that part of Theology.

About 5 years ago I started attending a TLM in the next county and the MUSIC!!! The REVERENCE!!! The SILENCE!!! Now it's so difficult to even want to go to my parish and its CRAPPY "music" that I don't want to sing. I refuse to receive Holy Communion from any layperson and beg God to stop lay ministry. I privately pray the Leonine prayers after Mass. The TLM got moved farther away and 4 hours earlier last year. The Holy Sacrafice of the Mass was the earlier name for the TLM. The Latin was honored because Exorcists found out that the Devils hated Latin, and would usually leave when it was spoken. Latin, Greek, and Hebrew are also retained in the Sacrafice. Kyrie is Greek, Alleluiia is Hebrew. The structure is ancient poetry which is the most eloquent of languages. Jesus, at the Last Supper, changed only two words. These were the words over the bread and wine: This is MY body...and over the wine: This is" My" blood of the" NEW "testament.
It was His gift to us of His Sacrafice of His Life for us...this death was His last will and testament for us. " AS OFTEN AS YE DO THESE THINGS, DO THEM IN COMMERATION OF ME".
ITS VERY DEEP AND MYSTERIOUS, AS A DEATH ALWAYS IS.

    • @john_scott
      @john_scott หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Only the Church can declare the sacraments valid or invalid. The validity of the sacraments is not a matter of private opinion.
It has always been the rule that if in doubt (well founded) the faithful should not receive sacraments in question or the priests should not administer. But there has to be an assumption made of validity unless there is blatantly visible defect of matter, form, or there is an opposite intention to that of the Church.
In all cases it is the Church that either confirms or denies the validity of the sacraments.
EDIT: How the assumption of validity works in practice is this: a traditional priest has the right NOT to use hosts consecrated by another priest (possibly modernist), but must not disprespect the hosts or declare invalid. This is moral duty not to offend Our Lord in any way, so even if one believes the hosts are doubtful, should not declare publicly (except in testimony of visible defects) or show disrespect. But it also means that some of those hot-headed sedevacantists who routinely 'denounce' validity of i.e. holy orders that they have moral duty to respect the right of Church to declare and refrain from reckless private 'declarations'.

The FACTS speak for themselves the NOVUS ORDO is a Completely different mass as it was formed in VATICAN 2 by PROTESTANT MINISTERS and ANNIBALI BUGNINI under PAUL VI !! THE TLM is VERY OLD and goes back to ST JEROME and before that approximately 150AD an entire Version of the Bible in LATIN was assembled, called the Old ITALIA ( VETUS ITALIA ) and possibly a HIDDEN version that was formed and forgotten known as The CODEX VATICANUS . It was in general use until ST JEROME translated the BIBLE into LATIN (390-405), this latter being called the LATIN VULGATE. The MISSALE ROMANUM of POPE PIUS V was recognised as the Official MISSALE and the Language being LATIN For The ROMAN CHURCH retaining all the decrees of the CHURCH FATHERS and more and FINALLY ANATHEMAS on ALL those of whatever rank they may be who would attempt to alter any part in the said DECREES of the CHURCH FATHERS of this MISSALE and FACE the wrath of ALMIGHTY GOD and BLESSED APOSTLES PETER and PAUL in PERPETUITY ‼️ .

Search LITURGY OF ST. DIONYSIUS, BISHOP OF THE ATHENIANS. He was a deciple of St Paul.
One of the most fascinating reads I've come across. He also wrote Treatise on "Divine Names" at the request of St. Timothy that includes the classic 3 tier hiarchy of angels.

I will no longer attend the Novus Ordo Missae because of the disrespect shown to the Blessed Sacrament by the distribution of Holy Communion in the hand and the use of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. The only men who have any right to distribute the Blessed Sacrament and even touch the Sacred vessels at public celebrations of the Mass are those who have consecrated hands. Receiving the Blessed Sacrament in the hand is a violation of Catholic practice and tradition that even Pope Paul VI was always opposed to. The practice of receiving the Blessed Sacrament in the hand is a Protestant practice that was intended by the Protestant Revolutionaries to diminish belief in the Doctrine of Transubstantiation.

Pope St Gregory the great added the names of 7 woman martyrs in the second list of saints in the Canon in the 5th C.
We were taught in Seminary that the 2nd prayer was oldest prayer in west and the Eastern canons n worship were older. I'm not sure if they honestly believed this, but they tried to pass it on to us. It is false.
The only reason we have the Roman canon in the Missal, is because several Cardinals (Siri, Ottovini, etc) demanded Paul VI to put it back. Bugnini's vision was sunday would be 3rd prayer and daily the 2nd

This priest needs to take Liturgical Theology 101. I was in the Redemptorist seminary and studied Liturgical development. The Tridentine Mass came centuries after the early Church.

Orthodox here. Indeed. Rome used to celebrate the divine liturgy in Greek in the first centuries. Also until the 13th century you find missels with passages of the Greek liturgy transcripted in Latin alphabet to be said during the liturgy, typically the creed, the hymn of the Cherubim, the doxology.
By then most western Christians still signed themselves the way we orthodox still do, with three fingers and from the right shoulder to the left.
The official narrative of the Roman Church alway was 'it was like that since the beginning '. That's a flat lie.
The practice of the early Church resembles much more to the orthodox one.
Take the iconostasis that separated the holy place from the holy of holies.
It existed in the medieval Gothic Churches such as Notre Dame de Paris.after the fire they escavated the floor and archeologists found the remains of the Jubé, the wall that was the wester version of the oriental iconostasis.

@@miracles_metanoia the same thing can be said about the structure of the Church.
Saint pope Gregory the Great wrote in a letter to saint John the Faster : _Whoever calls himself universal bishop, or desires this title, is, by his pride, the precursor to the Antichrist._
Concerning the council of Chalcedon, saint Gregory adds :
_Was it not the case, as your Fraternity knows, that the prelates of this Apostolic See which by the providence of God I serve, had the honour offered them of being called universal by the venerable Council of Chalcedon. But yet not one of them has ever wished to be called by such a title, or seized upon this ill-advised name, lest if, in virtue of the rank of the pontificate, he took to himself the glory of singularity, he might seem to have denied it to all his brethren._
He explained even further that even st Peter was not the universal bishop :
_Certainly Peter, the first of the apostles, himself a member of the holy and universal Church, Paul, Andrew, John, - what were they but heads of particular communities?_
As well as the saints :
_And yet all were members under one Head. And (to bind all together in a short girth of speech) the saints before the law, the saints under the law, the saints under grace, all these making up the Lord's Body, were constituted as members of the Church, and not one of them has wished himself to be called universal._

Fr. Nix may be overselling the notion that the Roman Canon is apostolic, but that is not the position of Trad Catholics, which is that the Roman Canon was already in a form recognizable to us by the time of St. Gregory, around the year 600. It’s true, Latin wasn’t in general use in the West until some time in the 3rd century or so. Trads accept the developments of late antiquity and the middle ages, unlike the latter day reformers, who have imposed their idea of what the liturgy of the early Church was like. Traditionalism is not archaeologism. Pius XII’s Mediator Dei, which, somewhat ironically, was issued immediately before archaeologism infected liturgical authorities, in fact condemns the notion that “older is necessarily better.” It is worth a re-read for a lot of people, if only because it’s guiding principles were not followed, starting with the horrible reforms to the liturgy of Holy Week, which he himself promulgated.
