I am getting ready to set up a small colony in two 5 gallon buckets and one has 1/8 inch drilled holes so most of the frass falls through. Also the buckets will fit perfectly next to a hot water heater in a small closet. The room goes from 90 and up, so I will try without the heat pad at first.
I've been having 1-3 sub-adults dying every week or so. I've had my eggcrate set up horizontally though, I'll try rearranging it and see if maybe that helps at all.
I experienced a massive die-off when the first cold months kicked in. The humidity dropped a lot so I think thats the reason. I could see slow roaches and some on their back, not moving much and soon dozens started dying. I hope it was only due to humidity levels dropping, and not a bacteria or virus.
What if you put 1 egg crate horizontal on the bottom and then put the rest vertically on top of that? Do you think that would work instead of the little cardboard pieces in between?
Great video, but I have a question. I'm from Canada. So I can't feed dubia roaches to my Savannah. What could I feed him? That's like dubia roaches And I don't like to Feed crickets. Is there something else?
i just highly rate there products after going there and seeing what they put through there products, the testing is mind blowing, i did vlog my last two visits there, search inside reptile systems and youll see

Going with the totes( dark) still going to make it self cleaning and just use the bucket and redrill larger holes.
I have started successfully a small colony at the moment but will be transferring them to a bigger box to continue the colony.
keep us posted how they get on
If l needed dubias l would happily follow how you do it, really good info for those having or getting them.

Great vid
I’m going to try this!
Would you suggest a humidifier to be put in the room the roaches are in? The machine would make the room humidity go as high as 50%.
Do you have the heat mat on all day and does it get too hot for the plastic container?
Excellent... now time to do Madagascar giant hissing cockroaches
