    A bit of advice on using the hole saw - after completely drilling out the first hole, drill through plastic with the 1/4" bit only then line that up with the same hole that you just made in the wood. Then continue to drill big hole with the saw part. Basically you're using the hole and circled groove made in the wood as a template for the bit and saw to ride in as you cut through the plastic without grabbing and biting into the wood as much. Hope this helps ✌🏼

    Spraying the egg crates is asking for mold and mildew if you want a good tip use a small container with the moisture absorbing crystals they sell for plants just make sure it has no chemicals

    • @GeekyGeckoCreations
      @GeekyGeckoCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks man, my rooms are 90 degrees and the water evaporates literally in like 2 hours, I also am super careful to try and not spray food and i dont feed food that molds easily, but i get ur point, good input on the water crystals! i just started buying water crystals and am hopeful for this keeping moisture and humidity levels up to the roaches liking for max productivity. Did u used to breed in AZ? My rooms are super warm cuz of ambient heat

      Oh ok sorry didn't know your rooms were that hot thanks for the response 👍 yup I'm still breeding in AZ I have around 50 or so leo breeders (had to lower breeding since I have a new baby girl) and a bunch of dubia but my room is around 75 or so again wasn't being a troll or anything just throwing a good tip out there. Love what your doing! Would love to get some Leo's from you maybe we can trade or something I'll have some amazing morphs soon from well known breeders!

    I think it's important to note this tub with the grooves on the fllor, I see alot of baby dubias on their backs. Might not e an issue if you have lots of frass or a substrate, but a newly setup with neither might be an issue.

    Hi do you recommend feeding a constant supply of roach chow?

    • @GeekyGeckoCreations
      @GeekyGeckoCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeh dog food and roach chow is good for their survival and orange is really good for breeding. I also stopped spraying water and provide a deli tray styrofoam with water crystals on it works so much better

    Leopard gecko eggs laid on august 2 incubated between 80-85 Fahrenheit if you had to guess what day would be hatch day

    I've been running this exact setup for my discoid roaches (almost identical to dubia but legal in FL) but I've been thinking about doing an experiment and trying to make one bioactive... basically put a layer of substrate in the bottom with some springtails, isopods, buffalo beetles, etc. to basically make it self cleaning. What are your thoughts on this and do you know of anyone doing it?

    • @GeekyGeckoCreations
      @GeekyGeckoCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thats a good idea! you'll have to let me know how it goes, my first thought is "sifting" would be limited to whatever was on the card board, my 2nd thought is, will the cardboard mold or collapse as moisture sinks in from the substrate? But definitely interested to hear how this experiment goes!!

      I tried mealworms before, to me, it wasnt as efficient of a use of my time compared to buying in bulk. If I did not ahve the option to buy mealworms super cheap in bulk and refridgerate them, i'd probally consider breeding them, but the dust/smell of them and the itchyness associated with cleaning them, for me, wasnt worth it. I think its great for people who do it, but if you can keep mealworms in the fridge, they last 3 months without food or water and all you need to do is bring them out to feed to reptiles, and they cost sooooo cheap as you buy higher and higher amounts. Thanks for the question! :D

      @@Gillian708 lolll yes Rainbow Mealworms does all the heavy lifting, I simply just store them in my fridge when they get here. Rainbow mealworms also has the cleanest and purest sifting process ive seen to ensure your mealworms are pathogen and parasite-free! They are my favorite :D :D

  • @coolermaster
    @coolermaster ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I enjoyed this video because of the well done DIY stuff. I have OCD and like watching DIY videos like this that are not rushed and looks presentable unlike others who looks too ghetto for my roaches 🪳 lol only thing I won’t do is the spraying of water in the bin, I live in asia and it’s already humid where I am at :)

    • @GeekyGeckoCreations
      @GeekyGeckoCreations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeh i no longer spray in the bin anymore as well, roaches die, so what i use now is water crystals, what do you use?

    • @coolermaster
      @coolermaster ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GeekyGeckoCreations I just use vegetables for their hydration. I replace uneaten vegetables after 24 hours so they don’t spoil in the bin
