    Nice video, man!
    I now feed pumpkins to my roaches. I’ve read they’re healthy. They’re also cheap and long-lasting ~ Takes several days for it to mould/go bad. Not too much moisture to a point it “wets” the enclosure, but more than enough for them to stay hydrated. Pumpkins don’t stink either!

      That's something I'm going to have to try. It's a struggle getting them here in the UK . Only really around Halloween we can get them.

      Yeah, if you can get a hold of pumpkins, just do those.
      They stay well fairly long in the refrigerator too!

    Cucumber, watermelon, and pears. I've heard about not feeding oranges to your feeders but I've also heard people feed them oranges so the dragons are getting more vitamin c from them. But I'm paranoid so I don't feed oranges at all.
    Anyway great video. I lost a colony of probably few thousand from grain mites. I cleaned the colony and then tried starving out the rest of the mites. They ate the insides out of the dubias. At the end I had 8 adult females left and one med roach. It was a sad time for me.

      @jilliancrawford7577 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skooflefloofandfriends4557 If you get the chance to redo your dubia colony, include dermestid beetles and springtails as cleanup crew in your colony to prevent mites. It's important to have both because whatever gunk one species won't eat, the other will. If you don't want to do dermestid beetles, then a colony of isopods would work too. I personally haven't tried them yet since the dermestid and springtail duo work so well, but basically having a cleanup crew eat the waste faster than mites can get to it will help prevent an infestation.

    I've had a growing dubia colony for a while and I've found carrots the best food for my roaches. They keep moisture and don't have a smell, my dubias also wont eat anything else haha. I scrub them really well and also peel them for my dubias, and I've never run across any problems with my colony dying off. So I would recommend carrots for moisture for your colony. :)

    I’ve had my colony for almost two years now, with very minimum deaths, LOTS of breeding. I only feed my roaches the same foods my dragons eat, safe for everyone, and I don’t have to think about feeding rates. As a “water” source I actually use a product that’s a gel food for bearded dragons. Provides moisture and nutrients that are safe for both. I also use yellow squash and organic baby foods (banana, squash and green flavors only). Green leafy foods every day, “water” foods every other day. I currently have about 40 females to only 3-5 males. Again lots of breeding, very minimal stress. Dubias are easy and fun to keep, I see my adults as pets ( I don’t feed adults, just the babies). I’m no expert, but all this has worked just fine for me. Also, in the summer I don’t need a heat source, just room temps( breed just fine). Winters I use a heat source, again lots of breeding.

    Citrus fruit is fine for gut loading, beardies can eat citrus too but in moderation due to the acid. Guy loading with oranges is actually great because the beardies in essence get the vitamin C from oranges but without the acid. Also any sort of vegetable works for moisture, I especially think things like cucumber is good for moisture.

    Wish I would've seen this earlier. I actually started my first dubia colony about 6 months ago and things are going along great! The crazy thing is, I never really tried because I was pretty certain that I would do something wrong as I don't know much about bugs...I was buying dubias (25 little ones for $12.99, not so little ones for $14.99!) from a pet supply store that I like the suck thing was the count was always the same and so was the price 25=$12.99-$14.99 no matter what. And when the pandemic hit it took A LOT longer for them to come in and when they did like 1/2 of them were dead but still being sold for the same price! I'm a penny pincher...Ever heard the saying "that person will choke the head off a dollar?" Yeah well I will strangle it if I can lol. I actually bought some in frustration as there were only 19 little ones I'd counted after buying 2 cups of them!!! The rest were dead. I'd already chosen them as a staple so what was i to do? The crazy thing is I'd had so many other bugs at the time, horned worms, super worms, meal worms, crickets, beetles etc. that I'd actually forgotten about the dubias! I just tossed some mustard greens and blueberries in there and left them alone. Turns out the humidity was so high in the area they were in that they began to thrive. When I did remember I even had them they were way bigger than they were before so I dove in. I figured I don't know much about bugs but I do know science moreover biology...I called the store and just started buying whenever they came in seperated the dead ones from the not dead..Because of my being a long time customer if I came in on the days the manager was working I actually got them for a huge discount I'd gotten up to about 100 and said "there lets make it happen." I've since purchase a heat lamp and sprayer. I simply spray the veggies and fruits turns out they will demolish black berries, turnip, and collard greens!! And I'm happy to say that I think out of the hundred I lost 1. So I'm super excited! I've put a lot of your videos in a private playlist to aid my research! About the oranges and the bearded dragon thing. Beardies do need vitamin C which is in the multi vitamin powder supplement you give but I've given oranges to my superworms and fed them to Oobi with no problem however, It is sparingly!!! And when I do this trust he's getting a mix. So when he does get supers it's usually included in with other bugs...sooo...I guess if anyone tried it be careful is all I can say I've never had any problems but since the dubia project I've been experimenting with all sorts of things I find that supers AND meal worms (

  • @sarahmccoy5590

    I've found that my Dubias hardcore love carrots as a snack and water source. I'm super careful about washing any veggies with a mix of white vinegar and water for 10 minutes and then rinsing with plain water to kill any bacteria or other pests first, but I've seen even newborns going between the carrots and roach chow far more than the water crystals. Furthermore, my beardie, Smaug, has had no issues with either the Dubias nor salads I've mixed for him using this method. I don't know if this'll be helpful for anyone, but I wanted to put that out there for others as a potential option.

      @@NORTHERNEXOTICS I thoroughly wash everything and always split it between the two tubs so pesticides would most likely have affected both baby and breeder bins. Most of the adults are quite young so i dont think it was that either. I found some posts that when adults are kept too crowded and stressed during sorting/cleaning they release a defensive liquid, and can cause them to die off later. This would make sense as the last time I sorted was about a week ago. I'm trying to think of a new way to sort them without stressing the adults out too much. Sir, if we keep babies and adult at the same place like forever, is it okay? Or those adult can eat their own babies? Apologize for my bad grammar, i hope you understand my question. Thankyou very much

    I’m hoping someone can help me. I’ve had my roach colony now for about 3 months now, had a couple of random deaths but not a lot. I cleaned out the babies 2 weeks ago, everything seemed to be going well and more babies have been produced since. However, today I found a roach with blistered wings 😔 this is the first I’ve seen this so not sure what has caused it. Potentially it could be I’m not feeding organic foods all the time, also could be a molt issue, will try misting them, but concerned may be disease. I made and use the roach 2020 chow from the northern exotics video, carrot, apples and water crystals. Any advice greatly appreciated!

    Hi I have a question and I don’t really know who else to ask I am trying to start a Dubia a roach colony for my bearded dragon For some reason I’ve only had them five days and I’ve already lost four males are use water crystals for moisture and Roach chow and fruits and veggies . Do you have any idea why that could be and also I keep them in the room with my bearded dragon because it’s so hot in there do I need to get a mat for underneath the bins and if so what is a good mat to use . And also in my feeder bin I find that some of my feeder dubious die but I keep that room low humidity for the bearded dragon so I will start to spray them and see if that helps but if you have any ideas for the other stuff that would be greatly appreciated sorry for the long comment I just don’t know what to do thank you

    Mine never die! I had them in the same 12x12x18 Zilla with my praying mantis, she didn't want to eat them so I just left them in. Avery (PM) died and I noticed all 7 of the dubia roaches were still alive, they are now pets, they hadn't been fed anything for literally months! Now of course they get regular food and water.
