      I wouldn't say that about "The Final Cut", which to me is close to INAUDIBLE, with Roger Waters' screaming and shrieking causing me a copious eardrum hemorrhage. (The lyrics are great, though, I love to READ them!) Yet many things in late Pink Floyd, after Waters left, are "meh", they lack any "wow" factor. But I agree that almost everything from their 1970s era is a masterpiece.

    When I saw them, this was the start of the whole show. It was like they were turning on a huge machine slowly and letting it warm up. The music was the biggest part but only a part of the whole experience. The band was on stage, movies played on them and behind them. Pigs, beds, and airplanes flew around you, and a big metallic glassy flower covered in diamonds woke, began to slowly spin, open its petals, and send pieces of light everywhere.

You listen to the entire song/video and comment after, which I think gives you the whole picture. Thank you so much for doing it this way. You rock.

      It annoys me too, when people pause too much and mess with the flow of the song. But some of them do it for safety reasons, just to ensure they don't catch a copyright strike which is understandable.

    I dropped acid on the way into the show when they were promoting the animals album. Came in on the grass got a place right up front next to the stage and then fell asleep. When I woke up the only space that wasn’t covered by people was where I was laying. They did all of animals. All of Wish You Were Here and all of Dark Side Of The Moon. Totally awesome, when the show is over I couldn’t hear a damn thing. I saw thousands of people moving around not making any noise. Fortunately, my hearing came back. Thanks for the video I like your style!

    Yes, a masterpiece. You are correct that this song was a tribute to their great friend and bandmate Syd Barrett who lost his mind and had to leave the band. David replaced him as lead guitarist. Syd was loved by all and they supported him financially until he died. I LOVE, LOVE Pink Floyd. They are so unique. Spent many stoned hours in my youth listening to them and got to see them live 2 times in the early 70's. As great as the concerts were, I think I now prefer the videos as you can see and enjoy them more than from up in the nosebleed section of a large arena!

      Same here. Plus, it was a LOT of work to go to a show. Getting parked, getting through the turnstile, getting in line for your drinks and finding your seat. Then, you gotta go to the bathroom halfway around the stadium. You know the drill. I've still had some amazing times at some amazing shows!

    Yep, “SOYCD” was the opening of the album “Wish You Were Here”, which, like a lot of Pink Floyd’s work, was initially inspired by their wrenching experience dealing with their “lost” member, Syd Barrett, and his deteriorating mental condition.
    But of course, that’s just the inspiration for the writing of the piece. In the end, like all great music, the art itself takes over, and the universal impression it leaves becomes the “message”.
    In the end, it’s all about sound (and image), and however it registers inside the back of our brains. It graduates from personal confessional tale-telling to something far more sublime. It’s no longer a bunch of talking points - it’s poetry.
    THAT is the essence of real art, and why we’re forever awed by the cosmic power of this beautiful band.

  • @mark-nm4tc
    @mark-nm4tc ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Strange but true: The Wish You Were Here album, is partly dedicated to their former band mate Syd Barrett who left in 1968 due to a mental breakdown brought on by heavy LSD use. During the recording in 1975, Syd unexpectedly turned up at the studio and they initially didn't recognise him, not having literally seen him since he left.

    • @teknotony
      @teknotony ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct , after 7yrs they did not recognize him because he ballooned in weight and shaved his hair/eyebrows ( as depicted in the film ) , only when they looked into his eyes then they recognized him . Food for thought

      @@kesleycottrell1416 I don't want to sound like I am encouraging anyone to do drugs, I AM NOT, but I must say that doing psychedelics like LSD, Mescaline and magic mushrooms back in the days of my experimental youth ('69-71) was a blast. They magnified the intensity of everything. I (and no one that i knew personally) never had a bad experience, but of course there were stories about dangers. Both Syd Barrett and Peter Green are famous for supposedly losing their minds due to too much LSD. However, from what I have heard, both these men had some emotional problems before they ever did drugs, which may have contributed to their bad experiences.
      The drugs around now days are MUCH more dangerous in my opinion -Meth, coke, fentanyl, heroin and whatever else there is are more addicting and damaging. I read in TIME mag that psychiatrists have been using LSD to successfully treat patients in a clinical setting with PTSD. Interesting...
