  • When it comes to cycling clothing there is often a big gap between low-cost recreational apparel and form-fitting premium apparel. Decathlon’s Van Rysel lineup of Racer cycling apparel is trying to close that gap by offering breathable and close-fitting pieces at affordable price points. We have two items in their Racer collection here, the Endurance Racer Road Cycling Jersey and the Racer Road Racing Bib Shorts. The Racer Road Jersey retails for $89.99 and has a pro fit with four rear pockets. The jersey is highly breathable with ventilated mesh sides and a low collar for warm weather riding. To finish the kit we have the $99.99 Racer Road Racing Bib Shorts which have an aerodynamic fit and their updated Endurance 2.5 HD Chamois.
The Endurance Racer Road Cycling Jersey is part of Van Rysel’s long-distance cycling range of products. This means the jersey is highly breathable, lightweight and has a pro-fit. Decathlon offers the Racer Road jersey in two colors currently: bordeaux and navy blue. We have the bordeaux color in this review which is an attractive dark red color with a premium looking solid color scheme. Branding is limited to Van Rysel on the chest and along the back with reflective stripes to add some additional visibility The jersey is made with a combination of polyester and elastane for breathability and stretchability.
The jersey has a full length front zipper with zipper garages on the top and bottom. As a warm weather jersey, there is a simple short collar. Visually, the jersey has a premium appearance with the solid color scheme and color matched zipper. Each panel on the jersey has a purpose, you have thin side mesh panels and a breathable rear. The sleeves are fairly long with elastic cuffs for a close fit and additional coverage that is typically found on aerodynamic jerseys. On the rear you can see the distinct fabrics that connect at the Raglan sleeves and along the side mesh. There is a vertical Van Rysel logo with the reflective stripe that is also on the bottom edge of the pocket.

Decathlon does make good quality and affordable kit. I once had the old btwin roadr500 bib shorts and i was surprised how good the quality is. Fits good too.

That's the key to Decathlon's success, almost all of their products have great quality at low price points. Most of the B'Twin product lines have been replaced with the Triban / Van Rysel options now.

I love your reviews but i am not sure why you pronounce chamois the way you do. Most cyclists in English speaking countries call it a "shamee". If you want to pronounce it in French, which is its origin, you would say "sham moa". Thanks for the review, but for entry level kit isnt this expensive vs NeoPro or similar brands?

Thanks for the clarification, I think I might have made up my own pronunciation of chamois. I'll try to remember "sham moa" moving forward. As far as price, the Van Rysel kit is Decathlon's "premium" offering, they have more affordable Triban branded clothing. Compared to other premium brands it's quite a bit more affordable with similar breathable materials and fit.
