    Thanks, great video. Would one pro max and 7 NVRs handle 140 2k cameras ? Storage, can just be added, just wondering if the pro max can handle it

      I would look at the new ENVR coming out on Monday.. all the cameras would be handled by that and the ProMax would just be for your routing and network...

    Thank you! I already have Network via UCG Ultra and looking to add Protect. It's for my house. Max 3 cameras (G5 turret).
    I'm torn between CloudKey Gen 2 which now is only the SSD variant ($249) or UNVM which is at $299 but they're also giving a free G4 Bullet. Price-wise, they're about the same if you factor in one less camera to buy or extra HDD for UNVM. Between these 2, I'm leaning towards CloudKey just because it's a smaller footprint - I don't have a network rack and don't want to start one quite yet. Only concern as you pointed out is that it's an older hardware. But despite that, it sounds like I should be fine for the small number of cameras plus I'm only using it for Protect.
    I'm curious which one you would recommend for my use case. Thank you!

      @@shreyasdube ckg2+.. I would wait for the spinning rust version to be available. Check out my video on Discord! To get notified when they are available, they come available every a few days if you're looking for them.. we buy them for our clients and typically can find them within a few days...

    When adding additional drives in the nvr do they need to be identical?
    If i have 2 do choose if they are mirroring data or expanding storage capacity.
    Also, do you notice a difference in any of them for notifying the smartphone app of a detention on a camera?
    Thanks!

    • @DPCTechnology
      @DPCTechnology  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      they do need to be identical OR it will use the amount of space of the SMALLER drive.

    From a pure performance standpoints (dashboard snapiness and scrubbing performance of footage) would stacking two UNVRs be better or would splitting your cameras manually and running two "sites" be better?

    • @DPCTechnology
      @DPCTechnology  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Porsche7905 I would just do it in software now. There has also been leaked images of a 16 drive NVR, if u can wait for that I would.

    can the UNVR also do the doorbell? I want to move over to Unifi but in 2 stages. First the cameras (using my existing network) then the networking eqp.

    Note that there really isn’t a compatible surveillance grade 2.5” larger than 1TB. You can certainly use any but I would be very surprised if they last longer than 2 years. Heat is potentially a factor as well. While those 1TB drives are cheap ($35) they still may only last 2-4 years or less. I did put a good quality SSD in a mobile one that has worked for a year now with no issues.

    • @DPCTechnology
      @DPCTechnology  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great points. I typically feel like CKG2+ footage shouldnt be mission critical. If a drive fails a few days downtime should be tolerable. but a very solid post and thanks for taking the time!

    Does the nvr have the ability to shutdown if power is lost and ups takes over or if the ups gets low. What’s the solution?

    UniFi Protect on the UDR/Drea Wall is a "Forget It" thing. SD cards for storage, money is on it being the same tool who use a USB thumb drive in the UNVR's (used to be UNVR Pro's in those days before being renamed). You need big HDD's if you want storage.
    UCK G2 Plus, ditch the crappy laptop HDD and use a big SSD to keep heat down and have decent camera performance and up to half-dozen cameras.
    Be careful with the camera count calculators, drop 20-25% off the claims for more realistic real-world use. Maxxing out the units makes them really suck.

    Clay, thanks for another in-depth, and informative video. Watching your videos has educated me enough successfully to build an all Unifi network with 1-UDM SE, 1-UNVR, 1-USW-Aggregation, 2-Pro48 POE, 1-Pro24 POE, 11-APs, 2-4K cameras, 21-2K cameras, and much more on my 5-acre property. Unifi Access will be coming soon.

    They need to come up with a cost effective kit, 2 or 4 cameras and a unvr with Poe and compete with other brands targeting everyday people.

    You likely should have included the Cloud Gateway Ultra as well, not sure if the Cloud Gateway Max was already already released when this video was released, but that is also a good option for a small deployment and you are starting out. The Cloud Gateway Ultra and Max would suit people who may have considered the CloudKey 2 Plus.
    I've noticed that Protect has a cloud upload option to upload footage to Onedrive or similar cloud storage. This may work as a limited backup for the single drive devices.

    Nice video, really good info! Quite the crime we cant run Unifi Video/ now protect on our own hardware anymore.. In my opinion it was a Huge Middle finger to users. My experience with the CK Plus is like you say, its better not to run multiple 4k on it, its a hot and slow device, plus you cant exchange the battery when dead which makes it a waste product.. In my personal view its better to separate cloud controllers from NVR´s and maybe run the controller from AWS. For home use the CK plus is awesome but i think Dream Machine Special Edition is a bang for the Buck with the Poe ports for home /semi pro use:)

    Hi Clay. Love the content. I’m a little confused. I want to run a single G4 PTZ and that ONLY. I don’t have a Mac or PC - just iPads/iPhone , and have no real intention of expanding the protect system. Would the dreamwall be the best solution for me? Or will I need additional equipment beyond the PTZ and the dreamwall? I also know the dreamwall is a router, but plan to use my existing Amplifi alien as my home network. Thanks in advance!!

    Some feedback... it is always good to define more obscure terms. Stacking of NVR's (in UniFi terminology) is the use of two of the same model NVR devices to provide storage for one Protect deployment. Also, the jerking around of the mouse pointer is very distracting.
