    Just one mention from my side. I run UCG Max for about some weeks now. Got it as it got out. This thing gets really really hot, especially on the side, where you see those ventilation shafts. What helped me was to position this thing vertically. But i ended up placing a noctua 120mm fan on that thing. Also: if you place it vertically the mini display will also turn. Thats a nice feature.

    • @cue03
      @cue03 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      How much has the 120mm fan helped the temps? Did you perform a before/after? Are you using all the ports and multiple features such as ids/ips, firewalls and vlans or is it a relatively flat simple network? Are cameras currently in your coming figuration writing to the nvme drive?

    • @ApexOneTech
      @ApexOneTech  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes! Display auto-rotates--even upside down if needed. There's a wall plate adapter out there now for this unit as well. And thanks for the tip. Did you check what the internal temp was reading in Console > About?

    • @shortygfx
      @shortygfx 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@cue03 Hey there! Yes, i did before and after. Without the fan and device positioned horizontally the temps were around 75 - 79 Celsius. Without doing hardly anything. After i flipped the thing vertically the temps dropped to 65-66 with also doing nothing. After i configured my network (multiple vlans, VPN, IDS/IPS on 3 Networks enabled, almost 40 individual fw rules, 3 additional unifi devices) the device was sitting at around 80 Celsius again horizontally. After i put the fan on the device itself, the temps are now stable at around 58 - 60 Celsius. Sadly i dont have any camera yet, but will order shortly.

    we only need a budget 2.5gb switch

  • @NatesRandomVideo
    @NatesRandomVideo 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    Been running mine for a few weeks.
    The downside right now is the lack of low end 2.5G switches in the Ubiquiti lineup to pair with it. The enterprise 16 switch at almost $500 is way too high end for most needs this gateway will be handling. (Home 1 gig internet / fiber.)
    Additionally my particular ISP would have preferred to drop straight into a fiber SFP which is not an option here, so I had to get a media converter SFP to Ethernet.
    The USW Ultra needs a 2.5G version. It’s a great option for distributing 1G and boatloads of PoE (cameras) but it’s a swing and a miss for high internal data rate while mixing in a 1G fiber connection. For most folk if they don’t need massive PoE, the Lite 8 is a better option because it’s Layer 3 and the Ultra is only Layer 2.
    Great box. It needs the supporting switch made.

    • @ApexOneTech
      @ApexOneTech  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I do wish for a cheaper, smaller, PoE 2.5G switch. The Pro-Max-16-PoE is probably the cheapest option at about $400.

    Hey, there is a question that I have been searching but have no answer to.
    I have a small home (100sqm), connected endpoints are:
    1 laptop
    1 PS5
    1 TV
    1 U7 Pro AP (Do I need an injector or anything)
    3 G5 Turret Ultras
    My internet is giving me 3 gbps but I want to future proof in 5 years.
    There are 2 ways I can consider
    1. ISP > UCG Max > 8 PoE switch > 3 G5 Turret Ultras + 1 U7 Pro Max AP
    2. ISP > UDM Pro Special Edition > 3 G5 Turret Ultras + 1 U7 Pro Max AP
    I am not sure if this setup is deployable.
    Any help is appreciated!

    The Max sounds like a great product if it could connect directly to the new U7 pro with 2.5 and power it through POE. Lacking this feature is a huge miss, which could have been solved if there would have been an Max Switch with 2.5 and POE. However that doesn’t exist either unless you want to buy enterprise at enterprise prices. The form factor of the 16 port switch is too large to match with the UCG max. People who buy maxes want to avoid needing a rack.

    It's a cool device for smaller/home installations that want both UniFi Network + Protect, it's just unfortunate how much they're charging for storage, esp given they use relatively cheaper Kingston drives in them. It's also very disappointing that the no-storage variant does not come with a storage sled, preventing you from using your own drive without first buying one of theirs. It's a scummy up-sell tactic on Ubiquiti's part. I hope that changes in the future or they at least sell the sled at a reasonable price (it really should be included though).
    I'm waiting for some kind of UDR refresh (maybe a UDR Max) that I can easily recommend to friends/families, my home is already full UniFi but it's hard to recommend their current line-up for homes, at least if you need cameras too.

    Hello, vey nice video. Please give me your advice: I currently have 2 Wifi 7 APs and a 16 port Pro Max Switch. I pretend por purchase a cloud gateway to truly take advantage of the Unifi ecosystem, and in the future probably I will get another 2/3 Wifi APs. I am currently upgrading my Internet fiber speed to 10Gb. What gateway do you recomend in order to talke advantage of the 10Gb at least for my desktop work station?

    • @ApexOneTech
      @ApexOneTech  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s some fast internet! You’ll need a Unifi gateway that supports a 10G WAN connection. Then, you’ll need a 10G network switch. A minimum, the switch would be the USW-Flex-XG. $300. This one has the regular RJ45 Ethernet ports. Or, it’s easier to just get the Aggregation switch that has 10G SFP+ ports. This one you can connect directly to your Unifi Cloud Gateway. That’s what I would do. In terms of the cloud gateway that you need: at minimum UDM-Pro. That can handle 10g internet but only without threat detection. If you turn that on, it will go down to 3.5G. A UDM-Pro-Max will get you 5G with full threat detection. But if you want full speed 10g internet without compromise, you’re looking at the EFG. It’s a pretty $2k. store.ui.com/us/en/category/cloud-gateways-enterprise-scale/products/efg?a_aid=Apex&chan=yt

      Thanks for you detailed answer. It seems that UDM Pro Max would be the way go. Just another question: I’ll just use the 10Gb in one or maximum 2 work stations. In this case I’ll still need the Aggregation Switch? Or I just can use the 10 SFP port of the UDM Pro Max directly to the workstation? Also my current USW 16 Pro Max POE has two 10Gb SFP ports, could I use one of them?

      If you only need Unifi for camera security, and not networking, you can consider the CloudKey+ or UNVR instead. The NVR is room for full size hard drives and can work with your existing, non-UniFi network. However, if you want ongoing full UniFi, this cloud gateway max would great. Just realize that if you turn on 24/7 recording on all the cameras you listed, the 1TB won’t give you much playback history. I haven’t put 7 cameras on the UCG Max yet so I can’t tell you how many days of footage you’ll get. But, if you’re okay with only recoding smart detections, then this would be a perfect solution.

      I've already read that someone just did that without an issue. I can't guarantee it though. Just buy the same type of NVMe, a quality one, and it should work.

      So the rumor is wrong that the no-storage version wouldn‘t have an ssd-latch?

      @@gregsonberlin3782 It will not come with a SSD tray but Ubiquiti will sell a tray for the no-storage variant.

    Does it support more than 2 TB?

      I haven’t personally done so but I know others that have installed third party 4TB and it worked without an issue.

    Synolgy do NOT has 2.5GB connections, yeah you can connect both 1GB of the Nas to 2 ports 1GB on the switch and use one of the 2.5GB ports on the switch to connect to yours computer 2.5GB port, you will get 2GB ( 1GB + 1GB ) from the NAS if you have Multichannel active. The other option is to pay an arm and and a leg fro the Synology 10GB network adapter.

      @ApexOneTech  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, that's one option. I meant the latter: getting the 10 gig adapter but just using it up to 2.5. Why? Because 2.5 is enough 99% of the time.

    I'm so sad and disappointed to see this device. It would have been perfect, if it wasn't for its software suite which horribly lacks modern traffic SHAPING capability that other devices such as the Mikrotik routers via RouterOS, and Netgate via pfSense+, or EdgeRouter (UISP) offer out of the box. For me, to be unable to fine tune my own network traffic other than by setting hard limits is unacceptable. So I will never buy into this underwhelming ecosystem until Ubiquiti/UniFi ups its game.

      No. You’ll need to get UniFi’s $19 tray
