I did start whit Dream Machine Special Edition for my brothers home and for me a Dream Router (loud at nights and only 520/540 Mbps whit IDS/IPS on and whit 600 Mbps speed from internet provider) then I upgraded to Cloud Gateway Ultra and now I did order Cloud Gateway Max whit no storage because I will upgrade my IPS speeds whit fiber (will get the tray if I need to use protect). I don't have space for a rack so this small gateways are the way to go for me.
what do you reccomend for a home network setup presently capable of 1GbE. Will need a 24Port POE/POE+ Switch of which 4 dedicated to IP Cameras and 2 for Access points? Thanks in advance.
I already have the Cloud Key + and I need to get a gateway to establish a firewall and VPN, would I just get the Gateway Pro or should I just get rid of the Cloudkey+ and get the Dream Machine Pro?
Thanks for putting this together - It’s not quite easy to figure this out from Unifi’s info. I do wish there was a unit that just ran the apps. I bought a UXG when it first came out, and it’s great - but if I wanted to switch to a separate device for running the network app, instead of running a VM, there’s nothing that quite does that. I also have the UNVR, so I don’t need or want a device with drive bays that I’ll never use. It’s not quite clear if I could do that with one of the existing devices and still use the UXG.
Great video! I still don't get why Cloud Gateway Ultra has no PoE. I wanted to get 2 x U7 Pro Max, but using the current router/gateway (which has no PoE ports as well) sounds like some unnecessary cable management. The logic solution would be a gateway/router which has at least 2 PoE ports. But...that's either Dream Wall (don't need such a monster for my usage) or Dream Router, which is pointless considering I would turn its WiFi off anyway due to 2 x U7 Pro Max. I hope that a gateway without WiFi, but with PoE ports is coming...
The gateway max with 2 POE ports like you say would be perfect for lots of power home users. Couple of WAPs without a need for a POE switch, and still leave you on the hook to buy from Unifi if you need more POE for more APs or cameras. Especially when their 2.5GbE POE switches are either overpriced or underspecced if you just wanted to get one and done. Been looking at a TP link or QNAP 2.5GbE POE switch that at least has full 2.5 plus 4 10G where Unifi still has boring 1gig. But if you didn't need POE on those switches they're half the price. Unifi and other resellers know that POE bends you over a barrel and they can charge through the nose with it - on top of the premium that 2.5GbE already is.
I would have to choose the udr as I just like the features that it has but trying to find one in the uk and at the time of having money would be nice I am still using all first gen equipment so first gen ap controller and usg commented right at the start I don’t even have to think about the way I want to go
@@InsideWire yah it’s definitely a lot slower then the udr I use at my girlfriends house as we upgraded her network first because with spending more time there
Ucg ultra need cloud key sorry if I been pain just want to find the best setup for internet security cctv access point and For budget internet speed is 268 download 2 25 upload
i just got a usg pro rack and it wont adopt in to the controller i have a cloud key gen2 with a poe switch but it wont have it is this thing not supported anymore cos it was cheap ffs
@@Delijohn it's been great. I am eagerly awaiting for more features to come out for it at some point. Right now is not to different than the other gateways.
I am setting up a Unifi network for my wifes small business, summary 2 cameras 6-10 days 24 hour recording, low end wifi just for 3-5 customers mobile phones, anything important will be hardwired (work pc+atm), I was thinking CK+, Lite 8 Poe Switch, Swiss Army Knife, (2) G5 Turret Ultras. Would you say this will be fine for her needs, I was trying to stay away from a SE+HDD which would be an additional $300+ over the CK+ and POE Switch. Or would you say go SE and not get CK+ with Lite Switch? Thanks
Ahh I see my bad, I think I found this confusing because of ubiqitis naming scheme which seems to be getting more confusing by the day. You’re absolutely right there is both a cloud and non-cloud version of the gateway max.
Which Gateway are you buying?
@@InsideWire gateway ucg max
Ultra. Don't need surveillance on my networking equipment. Got a standalone device for that
Wood the unifi ucg max the 8 port poe lite model and ubiquiti cam

Great! you pictured very clearly in less than 20 minutes what I've been researching and figuring out the last two or three weeks, thanks!
Glad it helped 😊
nice summary, thank you!

The Dream Router is perfect for my basic needs apart from the throughput which is less than 1 gig :((
Thats the only down side, the throughput

does the cloud max for $199 without an SSD storage work as a router or it has to have an SSD installed?
It's fully functional. The storage is only used for NVR if you have unifi cameras installed.
What gateway do you buy? A udm because you will end up with one of those versions anyway.
Anything less is what you chuck at your parents place.
Great breakdown of the options.
Thank you ☺️

Great video!
Thanks!
My UDR which I gave to my cousin without IPS / IDS is about 750Mbps
Is there any subscriptions to add on to the gateway max ucg
No there isn’t.
@InsideWire so nvr will be free to use for cctv
Yes you can use protect for no additional cost

Clear as mud. You didn’t explain which one needed cloud key between the efg and enterprise
I dont think you looked at the chapters where the second sections says "non cloud key integrated"
I already did buy the wrong one, I got the gateway ulta not realizing the max was on the way----- aw man!
I feel your pain same here
Their lack of roadmap is shockingly bad
Woops, I got a EFG for my home!
you can send me one too if you want, ill happily run it at home haha
What's your feedback on it? Are you happy with it?

This is incorrect, the gateway max does include the cloud key functionality.
Correct, the cloud gateway max does not the gateway max, which point did I say this so I can correct?

opnsense ftw
Cloud Gateway Ultra with its 1Gb CPU Link and (Non-Cloud) Gateway Max are really weird products
The EFG can only run network
Good spot! how did i miss that one 😟
Thats a good Question
You missed CloudKey Enterprise 😊
I had it in my script, but I guess I forgot to mention it.
