Kenwood is the preferred brand in Europe since they're known to have much better quality than KitchenAid. You are so right. I do not know why they say the things they do in these comparisons. So many of the products they do not like they use it incorrectly or make comparisons that defy logic. The Bosch compact has been sold from 1981 to about 2022 (when they replaced it with other similar models). 43 years and incredible accessories like the continuous shredder, blender, meat grinder, grain mill (all stainless so you can mill oily products too!) kneading breads, whipping creams and meringues, making perfect cakes, those machines go on and on. I have had two Kitchenaids (one with a liftbowl) and my loved Ankarsrum, but the Bosch stands on its own as a great light weight an incredible option for many people.

I have both the KA classic and the Bosch compact and have retired the classic in favor of the Bosch. First, the splash guard does NOT have to be in place for the mixer to work. Further the opening in the splash guard is only for adding liquids. My Bosch does NOT walk around the counter - the suction cups hold, even when kneading a couple of loaves of dough. And the Bosch does a much better job of kneading dough. It really works the dough rather than just spinning it around like the KA. And I appreciate it’s small footprint and how easy it is to lift.

Despite their lack of weight, the Bosch mixers are surprisingly good at kneading dough. I think it has to do with the mixing action; the head and the attachment spin in opposite directions, meaning the hook covers the entire bowl and leaves nothing untouched. You can't do big batches in them (the bowl is just too small), but they do a great job. I've had mine for over 10 years and never had any concerns about its ability to handle a task. My only criticism is that I'd prefer it to have a more traditional paddle attachment (the one they come with is this bizzare 3-spoke wire design), as it's definitely not the quickest at incorporating ingredients. But in terms of performance to price ratio, I don't think you could do better

I've used a Bosch Compact and a Bosch Universal for YEARS now, with no strain on motors, even with whole grain doughs. Something very important to consider is the maximum volume of the bowl, which can be important when you need to mix a larger batch of cookies or dough. And some cake recipes to make 9 and 10 inch cakes won't fit in the 4.5 qt bowl. Most home bakers don't know how to scale a baking recipe down to accommodate making multiple batches. For some things it's not as simple as cutting the recipe in half or thirds. I would say outside of holiday baking or if you make a LOT of cakes, the K45 Classic is an awesome choice for most home cooks/bakers. I have a friend that makes a cheesecake every week in the K45 Classic, but keeps saying they are going to buy the larger one during the holiday baking season. Maybe someday they will.

What the what?! I have that cute little Bosch Compact with the blue splash guard, and the guard does NOT have to be on for the mixer to operate! That's a fairly major error, especially considering the "Ooooo, bad! Boo hiss!" reaction it got on camera, and the kind of purported shortcoming they should have checked out for accuracy beforing putting that error on the air. Makes you wonder what else they overlook/get wrong. MY Compact is a fabulous little machine that handles bread and cookie doughs that made my disappointing KitchenAid cry, takes up less room on the counter, can be lifted with one hand, all of the attachments can go into the dishwasher, NEVER WALKS, and costs a third of the price of a basic KA Classic.

The wonderful thing about the splash guard is it is great at keeping flour in as you are kneading your breads, but once the flour is incorporated you do not need the guard and you can easily visually check the status of the dough, and easily stop it to check for a windowpane test. use. (Didn't bat an eye to the torture.) Truly, the
Timex of mixers. Took a licking, and kept ON
      ticking.
Out of the 7 of us, six have Bosch Universal or
Universal Plus mixers. One (the holdout) brother,
has had his KA in the shop for repair, TWICE,
since all this coronavirus stuff happened. He

have a 10 inch hole to add ingredients. Only 7
inches, with the ring attached. And, NO MOTOR

Multiple have the option to adjust the height - the instructions just aren't in all of the manuals for some ridiculous reason. For example, the Cuisinart SM-50R. You can easily find videos on TH-cam on adjusting the height. The method for stand mixers with the pivot head is pretty standard.

I have the blue Cuisinart stand mixer. I use it primarily for making pizza dough and pasta dough and for grinding meat with a meat grinder attachment. It works great. It does everything a kitchenaid can do since the hub is compatible. One thing they failed to mention in the video is that some mixers, like the Cuisinart, have an adjustment screw that lets you adjust the clearance height of the attachments to the bowl. It seems they didn't do a very thorough review.

@@karenlewkowitz5858 I use my meat grinder attachment quite often, usually for making ground chicken. It works great, but cleaning it afterwards is a bit of a chore. It can't go in the dishwasher and must be hand washed. So, I'll usually buy a large family pack of boneless chicken breast and grind it all up at once. This way, I'll get multiple batches and only have to clean it once. I use the ground chicken for making chicken meatloaf and sometime chicken burgers.

You can adjust the kitchen aid wisk or what you are using for the food your making a small screw under the mixing arm put a dime in the bowl and turn it on if it is not touching the dime turn the screw a little until it just touches 20 years ago when i first bought mine i adjusted it and never had to mess with it again this is in the instructions that come with it...I now use the Bosch Black Universal Plus got it for $400 and it is great for making 3 or 4 loafs of bread as with the kitchen aid i could only make 1 to 2 loafs at a time over the years i have striped the turning gears in the kitchen aid from to much dough and the mixer could not handle it the fix was easy not a deal breaker i still use the kitchen for lighter baking foods and the Bosch for the heavy duty work and fine its a great combination.

I am not sure if anybody has mentioned it or not; this test would have been more telling/useful if the amount of flour was mentioned as well. I assume the same amount was used for all of them, which does not make sense at all. These machines have different power and prices. The correct test would have been to use max recommended flour for each machine (optimum amount as per manufacturer) and then see any of them smoke or not. In fact we do have the Red mixer (400Watts) which has a rating of max 600 grams flour. It works fine for us with no hassle. I cannot get Kitchenaid mixer at 220V where I live, so I guess I have to get a Kenwood soon. I have to disagree with the testers on this. I have both a Kitchen Aid and the Bosch. I prefer the git'r done Bosch over any other brand. It is a workhorse and will outdo a Kitchen Aid any day of the week. I have the small model (MUM compact) that is featured (you don't have to have the lid in place to operate it) and I have the larger model that will do 9 loaves of bread dough at a time (now that's a mixer!). Kitchen Aid just isn't built like they used to. Too many plastic parts that break down and fluid that leaks out of the head. They are too heavy and cumbersome for me to move around too. They make pretty countertop decoration because that's pretty much all they are good for.

Although Kitchen Aid is probably the best pick in this group it could be improved by some modifications in the drive system...for example bearing instead of bushings, forged gears vs cast. Some improvements in this area could be made at a small expense or at least made optional for those willing to pay a bit more. I've bought these mixers that were faulty out of the box they would grind to a halt, squeal and smoke gears...this doesn't give confidence to the buyer these mixers will be reliable for the long haul and can be passed down to future generations as the older models were.

Some models that came out in the mid-1990s to the early 2000s were a shift from metal gears to plastic which caused a lot of problems and made them seem "cheap". It was an effort to keep production cost and retail price down. There has been a lot of backlash over it and I think it ended up costing them more money in the long run fixing or replacing machines. My understanding is most of those issues are resolved. It is also my understanding that (although it might void the warranty) most of the interior plastic parts can be replaced with metal parts. There is a guy called Mr. Mixer who specializes in Kitchen Aid mixers and does just that.

I took it apart and tightened the screws but it still moves. I am never going to waste my money on another Kitchen Aid

Within the past two to three years I picked up the Hamilton Beach Eclectrics All Metal for $99 and have had an amazing experience with it! It got me back into baking as I have carpal tunnel and even mixing a single batch of thick cookie dough is too strenuous and leaves my hands and wrists sore. But the most intense mixing I do is the occasional pizza dough, no bread. But for everyday baking of quick breads like banana and pumpkin bread, cookies, cakes, brownies, frostings of varying thicknesses, even whipped mashed potatoes and quick shredding chicken breast, it works GREAT. Highly recommend for the power at the price.

I didn't even bother watching the video - I just wanted to see KitchenAid as the winner. I can't recall ever seeing anyone use a different mixer - there must be a reason for that.

I have mine for 40 years and still running strong and my friend got a Chinese-made mixer which lasted 9 months.

My grandmothers Kitchenaid that she bought in the 1950's still runs beautifully. Those Hobart made kitchenaids were built to last :)

I got kitchen aid because i see all bakers content creators have one. My mom bought one and its a pro. Bought my own light blue and i just love it. My sister in law saw it and wants to compete buying another brand thinking its better than mine 😂

Is there a recommendation for the professional lift-type stand mixer?

I have the pro 500 series. It was the entry level lift. I don't think it is made anymore, but it holds up, for nearly 20 years now. I don't think most will have issue with the entry level lift models, today they have even more wattage than mine.

I actually own that Farberware mixer. It is AWESOME. I've had it for about 4 years now. Too bad they're hard to find.

I have it too but I find it can be a tad bit noisy. Very heavy & solid construction though.

We replaced an older Kitchenaid with a new Pro 600 last year. The new mixer is not useful for creaming because the paddle is not close enough to the bottom. The adjustment screw doesn't have the range to correct the problem. Any ideas?

Honestly we all know that you'd only find the kitchenaid at that price in the states and on a sale. They are rediculously expensive in most other countries and frankly there are many European/Uk companies that make just as good or even better mixers. Don't listen to comparisons when they don't match like for like features, price, power, build, etc. Lazy comparison work ATK.

_America's Test Kitchen_ is produced and aired in the United States. They would not be featuring appliances manufactured and distributed only in other countries.
