people really got to stop trying to use frame gen to get to the 60fps mark let alone 45
I might be wrong but I think if you cap the fps to 45 you get 45 real frames and the frame gen tries to match the 90Hz display. I'd rather disable it and play with a stable 30 or 45 though.
Also FSR upscaling and frame gen take a lot of memory bandwidth (or something similar). On the steam deck it makes the experience too unstable imo, and the artefacts are very noticeable. I'm definitely a FSR user on PC though.

frame gen with a 45 fps lock is crazy. amd recommend a 60fps base frame rate before using frame gen. the artifacts and input lag with fsr3 fg are crazy at a bad frame of 20-30 fps.

Input lag and latency DOES matter in single player games. Having really bad lag and latency when playing a shooter, racing game or action game or really any game that requires any sort of reaction times is unbearable and unplayable, and in the case of sub 60 fps frame gen lag it is OBJECTIVELY unplayable. Playing a game like Spider-Man where you have to do quick dodges, parries, and combos and fast swinging and having a full fucking second of input latency is UNPLAYABLE.

I continue to be amazed by how well a lot of PS5-era games look and run on these devices even on "low" settings.
games like this on PC with settings like low often have higher fidelity than PS5 on performance, specially when on a smaller screen on a handheld like the steamdeck will the image quality hold up better than many people expect, while setting like medium / high to have equal and better fidelity than PS5 on Quality, let alone steps above that like very high / ultra.

Personally I disagree. If someone only has a Steam Deck and no other console/PC to play this on I don’t see “fake frames” being a problem. Id say that it makes it playable. The only concern I’d see is latency. If someone is ok with that let them play how they please. All they have is a Steam Deck so relax.
I think people are just angry you didn’t need to buy a PS5 or $2,000 PC if you are ok with mediocre performance from a Steam Deck.
Excited for a steam deck 2. If they can fit The oled, 512gb, and a stronger APU, in maybe a slightly bigger handheld that is all I would need to buy it. Maybe going from a 8 core RDNA 2 gpu to a 8 core RDNA 4 gpu or even 10 core gpu and a Zen 5 4 core cpu would give the steam deck the little performance boost it needs.

Frame gen with a base of 26 fps is going to look and feel like shit. You really need a base frame rate of at least 60 in the majority of games for it to even be worth enabling it.

Counting frames from 0:45; from the moment the right analogue stick is slightly moved right it takes 16 frames for the in-game camera to begin turning right. Roughly 265~ milliseconds of input lag, which is extremely high even for a single player game.
Take this number with a grain of salt however as I only checked one point in the video and counting frames from 60fps camera footage isnt a precise way to measure this. I'm not saying not to play the game like this, but you should know what you are getting into with the input lag.

Framegen is simply amazing! Diablo 4 maxed out, hdr 90fps ! Path of Excile 2, 60fps. These upscalers are a must have on handhelds, and a dream come true. Lifespan expanded 👌
Might as well lower the resolution down to 480p just to get it to run smoothly on the Steam Deck lmao.

I just installed it, used your configuration works very well, now I’m stuck in a mission where in the start you have to send Robbie a picture of two guys with frees bee, the game works but after sending the photo you have to open the map, and this is not showing. Character freezes and everything else works. How to fix it idk)

After playing and beating it on PS5 running in performance I'd do all I could to hit 60 fps - I covet that above all else.
I'm getting sick of seeing everyone and there mother throw frame gen at poor performance. All you're doing is swapping one problem for another. Sure it looks good now, but it's input lag is in the mid 20's since you locked it to 45fps. Like I get it, wanting to play the newest stuff on the Deck, I have a Deck too, but game requirements are getting higher, and when you try and make Frame gen the solution you're misleading people as to the actual capabilities of the device, but my biggest pet peeve, is that he starts the video with frame gen already enabled. Show how it runs without it, THEN show the frame gen, at least then the viewer knows what they are getting into rather than them buy it and find it plays like crap.
I somehow managed to get up to 60s to low 70s with the same settings and keeping steam fps setting at 90. I also have a bunch other mods, undervolting and overclocking going on too.
It looks like the game works better than Jedi survivor on deck and I have finished it 3 times already and it’s definitely playable. I wonder if I should buy it now or wait for discount
I have the Deck and a 7840U device, I didn't think they'd be capable of running this.
Frame gen under 60fps should be made illegal. What is playable about flickery, pixel slideshow artificially boosted to 45 ? Not "very playable" at all. That input lag is so huge , u can clearly see him first flick the analog stick and like a half a second later translate that movement in the game
And this is why Nvidia Reflex is needed for framegen to reduce the input lag. It's tough that the Steam Deck doesn't have this feature.
@@LynxxLancer I get it, but considering that steamdeck is running the game with framegen at 40 FPS , I wonder what the native FPS is, but I doubt It would save that input lag. Don’t get me wrong, I think steamdeck is a cool device and when you are fine with its limits, great. I just don’t like when someone promotes anything that has to run framegen to reach anything at 60fps or lower. Same as when Black Myth Wukong on consoles runs framegen to try reach 60fps and Nvidia claims 4090 performance with 5070. Would be cool for boosting frames of a movie or storytelling games where you only choose your decisions, but not anything interactive.
@@LynxxLancer plus framegen that is generated by an algorithm and not an AI creates mistakes and imperfections in produced frames. Those are more visible with lower fps. He runs it with fsr as well. So you are running a game, with imperfections and artifacts that are getting exaggerated and more visibly exposed with framegen in lower FPS, as framegen is trying to guesss where even those imperfections will be on the next frame. The second the spiderman starts moving, you see red pixels flying around him. Its like red glitter everywhere.

Im trying other setting because it seems to mess up my deck completely. It keeps going slow, and almost crashing mode.

@lyndongaming we are looking at a 2nd gen strix halo kinda chip... Some 4080 or 4090 mobile level power chip, unified memory 32gb or 40gb , silicon carbon battery 80wh or 90wh, full size ssd PCI gen 5, 8inches oled 1080p screen... Next year ending or 2027... Around when next gen would be launching

Downloading the game on my STEAM OLED as we speak. Play at home on my Desktop, and playing the game at work when we have down time :)
I am also going to download it on my ROG Ally X just to see how well it runs there.

Love your videos, but a game can not be steam deck verified for text size... so I really wouldn't put too much stock into that.
From somebody thay hasn't played a Spiderman game since the original PlayStation, which one do people recommend? Is Spiderman 2 better than Spiderman 1? And can I play Spiderman 2 without context from any other previous stories? I'm not really a huge Spiderman fan, just wanted to try one out for a spin.
@@skycloud4802 There's an optional recap custscene that covers the events of Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which predates the events of this game.
The web-swinging is faster in 2, including options to make it more manual like the Playstation 2 games. Otherwise, a lot of the combat and stealth elements have been refined.
It might be worth your while to try it.

Yeah, no thank you. Playing anything with frame generation when the base FPS is below a stable 45 FPS is a complete waste of time. It will feel terrible at all times, which is clearly evident in your video-the input latency is far too high. I highly doubt you’ll continue playing this way once you turn the camera off.

It doesn't run well on SteamOS so probably not. This video is hiding how poorly it runs because he is using frame gen. The real FPS is probably in the mid 20's.

The only small question I have is that when I use these settings, the small yellow objective indicator or the red triangles indicating an ongoing crime behave strangely and flicker slightly when I navigate the world. Is there a way to fix this?

How is the controller latency when docked? I was playing it on my laptop hooked up to my tv and the controller latency is horrible unless i turn off Vsync and even then i get horrible screen tears with Vsync off.

Its not unoptimized, the steam deck is too weak. The steam deck struggles even with a lot of last gen titles. You can't blame a next gen game for running bad on steam deck as it uses hardware that was practically considered low end by the PC community midway through that generation. People need to keep their expectations for what the steam deck can run in check and stop expecting it to run games that were built for literally a whole generation newer of hardware well and stop acting like the steam is this ultra powerful high end gaming device. It was impressive for a HANDHELD when it came out, but even when it came out it was essentially outdated low end PC hardware. Almost every new major game running on a next gen engine runs like crap on steam deck. And that's not the games fault.
