It looks high quality though. I can only assume the video was originally recorded in 720p or 1080p resolution. I don't remember the early days of TH-cam support such resolutions.
The GT2 RS is the baddest Porsche on the planet in my eyes! 620 H.P. twin turbo and it just looks lethal! I guess that's why it's the widow maker. They only made 500 of them so when ever your on ebay and your lucky enough to see one for sale they want half a million for it. I also love the new 2016 GT 3 RS with the grills in the front fenders and 500 H.P.!!!!
Pham Khoi One of the scariest cars ever made ....and best!!!! A few cars over the years have been named the widow maker. But only a real few really are and the GT 2 RS is really a widow maker!!! :-)
I'm from montréal and each time we go to europe, especially Germany, we're completely amazed by the german cars, because when they come to america the performances are lowered a bit because of pollution norms. Love my 911
@danadaen No, that doesn't make sense. What does makes sense is that the 911 GT1 was created to compete in the GT1 class at Le Mans (and later, in the FIA GT championship). The GT2 was created for the same reason, as a race version of the 993 turbo. The GT3 was created later and again, named after the class it was competing in. The Carrera GT was created much later, was never intended to race (although it did have a racing engine) and doesn't have anything to do with the 911 GTx naming system.
At least Porsche still has some balls; all the other companies out there are falling to popular demand and making most of their cars with paddle shifters. I admire Porsche because they took a good product, and figured out how to make a good thing better, year after year for nearly 6 decades with the 911. No other manufacturer can say that.
Driving and using a hand held mobile phone is a definite no no, but driving with both hands free of the steering wheel whilst reading a report... that totally fine. ;-)
@Hinloopen Yup, one difference is that since the GT3 is NA, it has better engine response where as he GT2 requires the turbo to spool up for the power. Personally i prefer the GT3 for a track car.
if you're all about going to the circuit track and race...you should know that an all engine car is better, the transitions are smoother than a turbo charged car which is like a big punch to the engine and can be tricky to control taking endurance out of ur engine...in the past...formula cars were turbocharged...the engines needed to be rebuilt before everyrace...thats how damaging the turbos can be. Thats why all engine like the GT3 is the way to go for the track u can race w/ peace of mind...
Very nice car IF you know what to do when it comes! But not as exciting as the F430 Scuderia in my personal opinion! Great presentation well done Chris!
I guess you didnt get my point yet , I ve mentioned my point of the Nurburgring clearly which is :as it is a very demanding track so we can get general idea about the cars spec not like the short traks ,Tho ZR1 being cheap that is a fact but for the time on track it has almost 100 more hp and it did only around 7sec on a 7min+lap time should tell you something and you should not forget where the diffrence of price plastic on chevy/CF on Porsche , ceramic brakes ect t
the car is awesome and i love porsche....but i think the only thing i dont really like or would want in the middle, would be the timer /clock ...if im really driveing good i dont have time to pay attention to that anyway...have someone else do it u kno...but the design really is nice though....=)
also there is a huge diffrence , the car wasnt the normal security equipement while the porsche was pure stock , i m not a badge fan boy patucalary , but those what did i mean you pay for the badge aswell
@buttnut1080 the GT2 is fine and hold nicely against the car it was made to compete with, the LP560 and the F430 or even the F430 Scuderia But it isn't a mach for the 458Italia and the LP570-4 SL which are a notch higher but it is quite normal they just came out on sale so i believe the GT2 face lift would be more than enough to compete with these cars and the RS would compete with the 458 scuderia and the future gallardo LP590-2 SV
@danadaen Correction, GT3 to GT2 to Carrera GT. The 997 GT2 is actually about 75hp less and about 4 mph slower then the 980 Carrera GT. It however has at least 80 more hp and about 15mph faster then the 997 GT3.
A lot of car reviews are like personality types, the majority are very factual, or "laddish" and mucking about, this one is very intuitive as well as factual as well as a decent bit of squirrely mucking about.
This outperforms the z06 in every way, and actually has an appropriate upscale interior. Even if you get the Leather Wrapped Interior Package option on the z06 the interior is still garbage for a car of that price. Anyway, the Corvette ZR1 is the one that slighty outdoes the GT2 in every aspect, except in terms of interior quality of course.
From 0-100 km/h the turbo s is the fastest, but to 200, and on... the gt2 RS is the fastest :) so if you want to race between the lights, pick a turbo S :)
Ja ik denk het wel. Als je bijvoorbeeld ervaren hebt hoe een auto met 4wielaandrijving (gallardo) of een auto met de motor achterin (GT2) dan weet je een stuk beter waar je over praat denk ik.
it is still a puzzle why a rear wheel drive and rear eng car can be superior in the track. Well, only Porseche holds the key on this. See my GT2 on the rign: /watch?v=lr-ui_OX4fg
I was 7 when this video was published... Goes to show anything chris harris makes holds up very well. the 997 GT2 is a mega car
Chris was born to be a presentator and driver .
The best looking 997 for me!
I love the 996 and 997 GT2, can't wait to get my hands on one some day in the future :) It's just the perfect sportscar.
After watching this video I rate Harris more highly than I do the GT2!
A very nice, balanced, layman-friendly piece of journalism - thanks!
The best ever Porsche ever made.

Chris' reviews really are fantastic, he really get's to the point of the car and doesn't mess about. Great driver too.
Spent a day with one of these on Tuesday...indescribably fast, absolutely blew my mind.
Autocar has boring presenters. I only came for the car and I got Chris too. Nobody is more perfect to review a thing with wheels on it. Wonderful
just bought one :)

How is it so far?

I just bought it to sell it again. I now have the new gt3 waiting. Gonna be on the production-line in december.
I'm interested in buying. Shoot me an email to PorscheStable@gmail.com
already sold
that car has got to be absolutely vicious
There could have been 80 guys pointing machine guns at his head when he read that list. Yet Chris’s enthusiasm and honesty cannot be stopped.
yet another clean and informative review, good job!
Oh 15 years ago video. I even didn't recognize Chris until see the comments

yeah 620hp lightwieght gt2 was a beast

Chris Harris Driving this road between Zaberfeld and Häfnerhaslach, some 10 km away from my home ...crazy story.
2014: the porsche 911 gtrs - one off chris harris manual edition- needs to happen
Chris Harris!!! one of my favorite car reviewers.

This Porsche 911 is the ONY car with TRUE character.
autocar is so much better than top gear and all the other bullshit, no showy stuff, just a guy who can drive well, and awesome cars. 5 star
Then they came out with the RS with another 100 H.P.
they need to do a gt2 RS
yes they do
At least Porsche still has some balls; all the other companies out there are falling to popular demand and making most of their cars with paddle shifters. its nice too see a Porsche 911 GT2 go sideways :) good car
All time fave car
In 2018 if I won the lottery tomorrow this 997 gt2 and not the rs is the first purchase id buy this is all the car you'd ever need for fun.
@chbrules The NEW GT2 is faster than the Carrera GT, but this vid is from 2007 and features the previous model, which wasn't as quick.

quite a big leap from this to the 991 GT2 RS
It makes you wonder how the 992 GT2 RS will be like. The 992 GT3 RS is an absolute track monster, especially that DRS wing.
997 gt2 and 991 gt2 rs are kind of similar no big difference
@@DeepStatePuppy Aerodynamics have evolved big time.
love the 993 GT2

Just driven a GT2 for about 100 miles, what a car. Much prefer it to a GT3, and theres nothing faster (well with us on that day in particular)
actually germany has two racing colors
silver - mercedes, audi
white - bmw, porsche, opel
silver is just more well known than white

Mach 7 !! Chris you're the man.
i want this car really bad
i dont have much money... Is it possible to assemble the porsche?? .. I'll start with the headlights and wheels until I finish buying each part....
whats the difference between. a 911 turbo and the gt2?
Hmm, I wonder... This or the Scuderia? I would love to see a comparison test.
@buttnut1080 i did mention it pages ago......
but first there will be a GT2 Face lift 550hp before the GT2 RS
What year is the GT2 Harris is driving?
2008
Fuckin ridiculous car, only Porsche can release something as insane and bad ass as this.
This car is awesome
what is the diff between the GT2 and the GT3????
i would argue that top gear is geared towards entertainment whereas autocar is more informational. i see your point though.
the car is awesome and i love porsche....but i think the only thing i dont really like or would want in the middle, would be the timer /clock ...if im really driveing good i dont have time to pay attention to that anyway...have someone else do it u kno...but the design really is nice though....=)

The GT2 has two turbochargers, the GT3 is naturally aspirated. But there's more differences of course.
@buttnut1080 the GT2 is fine and hold nicely against the car it was made to compete with, the LP560 and the F430 or even the F430 Scuderia

@danadaen don´t forget GT1, 9ff
not the 911 turbo s?

Porsche is the best.
wich is a part of the Turbo s' acceleration feature..

what is the fastest car from porsche actually?
The term "Widow maker" comes from the original 911 Turbo not these... facts gentlemen.
best porsche ever made
Actually I would take any of these autos in any color... A silver Audi TT please:):)

That's why Porsche made the GT2RS.
and you are not right... because when you are driving at top speed it's much about aero dynamics and weight...
Chris looks much younger here...
