- Does your 3rd party Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows 10 having trouble installing drivers? In this video I will show you how to properly install drivers for your third party Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver so that you can connect an Xbox 360 controller to your Windows 10 computer.

Remember the hardware isn't technically by Microsoft, which is why it has trouble figuring out what it is. It is strange, though, since it operates the same way...

At 2:54 there are only 3 things for me to select.

+1nikini I did fix it! Instead of going to xbox peripherals there is another set of drivers, I think it was called the xbox 360 controller ones? Should be next to the one used in the above video, try it out.

Doesnt work anymore, it does say Driver updated succesfully, but Windows still sees it as a unkown device.

Hey buddy I sawed your video and I read all your comments and I seem to be having a rare issue no one else is having. When I go to "Bowser" and then "Let me pick from list" I don't see the driver software list that you have shown in your video. I don't even have the common hardware types box! please help I think I'm missing some drivers or something. THEY all should come pre installed yes when you convert over to windows 10?

If you're running Windows 10 they should already come pre-installed. However, if you're running anything before that, or even if it's a pirated version of windows 10 (considering it's so easy to do right now) you'll need to download the drivers manually. Definitely go over to the Microsoft store and download the drivers for free and the steps should be just about the same as this video

Awesome vid, well explained but i have an issue. when i want to select my drivers i only get 3 choices:
- xbox 360 controller for windows
- xbox 360 wireless controller via play & charge kit
- xbox 360 wireless receiver for windows
I tried all of em but they didn't work. Any idea how to get the proper drivers?

I figured it out
1. Choose the Wireless receiver one
2. Make sure the green light is on the receiver.
3. Press the Wireless button on the front of the controller while simultaneously pressing the button the receiver.
4. Then press the xbox button
(Thats what i did and now it works everytime)

I did a clean windows 10 instal and it didn't show the list of drivers. For others that got the same problem, here is the solution:
-go to
www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows
-download the windows 7 driver (32 or 64 bit, whatever you got)
-install it
-now follow the video on how to continue
Nardeag Devanarg I also did a clean install. I downloaded the driver, but they are not showing up when I select "let me pick from a list of windows drivers". Any additional advice would be appreciated.

Mine shows up as an Unknown USB Device, and wont allow me to select Xbox drivers. Anyone have a solution for this?
I Changed USB Port and it fixed that problem. Try every port.

Ben, I've been struggling for months to figure this out. My jaw hit the floor when I saw that the driver was already on my computer. By the way for anyone in the future, I had the 2019 Driver version available not 2015 which Ben showed us. And that worked. Thanks so much Ben. Cheers!
It hasn't worked for me. In Other Devices it still reads Unknown device, yes after doing the above. Oh well.
I only have three drivers there showing up and only one of them is called wireless receiver and it doesn't work even tho it says succesfully updated driver

August 2020 tested and works! You May (like me) only see 3 options, wireless controller, wireless charge and wireless receiver without any date. Just select wireless receiver. Thanks Man you are a hero

Same, just Xbox Peripherals, and in that it is just Xbox Controller, Xbox Controller DFU, Xbox elite controller and xbox gaming device.

Dude. It actually worked. Quick note, I didn't have the different drivers from different years, so I just selected the generic "Windows Reciever" and it worked all the same.

Thanks for the video, almost went out and bought a new controller because mine wasn't working at first. To anyone who finds this video in the future, a new driver was listed for me (as of 3/16/18), I used Xbox 360 Wireless Controller via Play and Charge Kit Version: 10.0.16299.15 (9/28/2017)

I actually had already followed these steps about 3 months ago, but windows had updated so I had to do it again. Only difference is after you select Xbox 360 Peripherals it only comes up with 3. Don't select any and just continue on, it works fine and connects properly now!
