    Hi! Fellow Malaysian in Aus here. I’m currently on my PR journey but for a not so common occupation - environmental consultant. I’m currently at 85 points and lodged my EOI in August 2020. But due to the pandemic and slow and minimal invites only catered to the critical occupations, I haven’t received one. Time is running out though, 8 months left on my 485 graduated visa. Fingers crossed I’ll get something in the new financial year!
    Great video btw! :)

    Submitted my EOI through Skilled pathway in 2012 and got my PR with my family's about a year later. The requirement then was only 70 points. My advice is always apply as early as you can as they keep raising the bar. I submitted my EOI at a time when we weren't even sure that we would eventually migrate. We only made up our mind to uproot ourselves from Malaysia after we got our PRs. Australian migration PR is one of the most coveted and difficult visas to apply and Malaysians have to compete with applicants from around the world. The requirements were set so high and well recognised enough for NZ to automatically grant NZ PR to Aussie PR, but something not reciprocated by Australia.

I chose study in regional area, just because of 5 pts. I think it's a good idea. Thank you for this video. It gave me a strong advices and more energy to go away for this achievement.

    I wouldn't dismiss a PhD in the way that you did at the end of the video. Yes, it's a big time investment but usually PhDs are funded so you are actually getting paid to study, unlike taught masters/bachelors degrees. I always wanted to live in Australia but I had never lived or studied there before, so was on a massive backfoot when competing with people who have extra points etc. for studying and working in Australia. However, I have a PhD from my home country and during that time was able to proactively engage with research in Australia and was awarded the Global Talent PR visa (as a recent PhD graduate) within 3 weeks, from offshore and during Covid. I'm now living and working in my field in Australia and was able to travel here during the pandemic as a permanent resident. Of course, I didn't do a PhD just to get into Australia and had I not come here I would be pursuing my passion elsewhere. If someone who is watching this video is prepared to spend 5+ years paying to study/be underpaid to work with zero certainty, they could consider being paid to study and build up their skills/enjoy life during the process in Australia.

    I did the ielts 5 times to clear the exam as I have to score atleast band 8 for speaking and listening (due to my occupation requirement). On top of that, i bought ielts books and signed up for E2 course, bought some additional assessments for that. Just this itself, costs me about 3k. Adding on to this, there is an exorbitant agent's fee. I submitted my EOI on feb 2021 which probably is the most insignificant time to do so bcos of covid. The daily news about migration are not helping much as they aren't going to open borders any time soon. And priority is given for tourism and healthcare workers. Ielts, unfortunately, has only 2 years of validity. If i don't receive any news by nov 2022, I have to re-do everything again. Well, this is the plight of many. So those who want to migrate, ensure you start as early as you can in terms of your age (when you're 28, start working towards it). I submitted 75 points for sec sch teacher and I'm not sure if it is enough. Considering PTE to score superior english point- so that's another cost added. Sometimes, it makes you wonder if it is all worth it.

    • @johnnychong
      @johnnychong  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I feel you! Agent fee, English tests prep and tests, they all add up to so much $$$. I agree 💯 on submitting EOI as soon as possible. In my case, if I were to submit a month later, I wouldn’t have got it.

    Australian education system is exactly same as British education system. No GRE, even Oxford and Cambridge Universities don't require GRE or SOP. The admission is purely based on your Bachelor's degree and 1 or 2 references from your professors and your course tutor. That is all.
    There are top Universities in Australia that offer admission for Masters even If your GPA is low or your Bachelor degree is without Honors. Especially, if your Bachelor degree is from UK, like me, you will definitely get admission to do Masters at top Australian Universities regardless of your Honors degree and, you can easily get Australian PR.

    I always believe you should be granted permanent residency once you have achieved 80 points. They’ve been putting too many people/applicants through too much pain. I’m wondering if they will ever feel bad about the role they have played in worsening humanity with this pretension and the evil Ponzi scheme. What a world we’re living in!

    Hi.i have a question.what is the probability of getting a PR if the skill assessment is positive

    • @johnnychong
      @johnnychong  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Positive skill assessment is a criteria for any skill migration visa application but as far as I know, it doesn’t contribute any extra points to the application. Example for ACS, in order to get a positive skill assessment, either a 1 year work experience or completion of profession year is required. Completing one or both of them will give you up to 10 points, and allow you to get positive skill assessment. But the skill assessment itself doesn’t give you any points.
      So no, positive skill assessment doesn’t increase your probability but it is still required to for PR application.

      You can view the results of each invitation round with the link on the description. Yes for EOI you do need skill assessment and IELTS score that contribute to your points. I suggest you look up the criteria to get skill assessment by ACS too. There are some requirements to meet - mainly 1 year Australian work experience or complete a professional year course.

      Hey Karam, I’m in no position to give you professional advice but I do know that English test results last for 3 years for visa applications, not 2 years. I’m not sure why it’s taking so long for you to get a skill assessment. Normally it’s very straight forward and you’d get it by meeting the criteria and submitting the documents listed on the immigration website. If you’re still struggling, my only advice is to hire a certified migration agent to help you with your application. I personally have done that.
