- This is my favorite large welding rod for any position. It's important to Choose the right welding rod for you and your needs. 6010, 7018, 8010 are some good ones As far as traditional welding rods.
If you're just getting started and have any questions leave them in the comments. Here is the link to the best welding lens I have found Here is the link for , Tefuawe WELDING LENS 👇

It’s important to go to welding school but it is more important to learn how to weld. It doesn’t matter what you do just practice and keep practicing. Nobody can hold your hand. It’s up to you

I'm not a welding inspector, a safety man, or your mom. Do your own research. I'm not responsible for anything you do. Have an awesome, awesome day. Stay safe. - บันเทิง
hey taylor I just started practicing downhill and the root and hotpass and fill with 6010 I do great, but when I use the 5/32 pipeliner 8010 it seem to always get stuck for me on the side and bottom of the pipe. What are something than could cause that? I run it at 130 amps so I don’t believe that’s to cold.
Try moving faster. The puddles probably trying to fall on top of you. I had that same problem.
ima young guy in the game nd the best piece of advice i was ever told frm my og coworker "sometimes for a youngin you just gotta shut your mouth nd listen to the older generation to get ahead in life" nd thats why i watch these videos for tips nd tricks
You can learn a lot by doing that. There’s a lot of good tips in the comments as well.
I worked as a maintenance mechanic for many years. Like an old farmer,I got used to 6011, 1/8 inch for everything. Clean, dirty, rusty, muddy, in the field, any position.
I've mostly used 6013 , grew up unsupervised uneducated, 6013 was about all we could get rural Ireland
“Not too long….it’s a big rod” 😂 tell em bro
Actually I been tinkering with some 6011 lately and dear lord them things are like lightning rods
Fleetweld 180
Nice video, Not to long ago at work I was criticized about trying to stick weld everything. I suck at Tig , seldom Mig but 7018 well that's my thing. Thanks again
Me to i mock the guy's who cant weld stick
That arc shot is spectacular
You can thank my dad for that. He's good at many things holding the camera is one of them. Thanks for noticing
Great videos Taylor. I’ve been welding for over 30 years. I rigged up in 06 and been pressure welding since then. I’ve done a few small pipeline jobs but mostly been doing facility new construction. I started teaching welding a few years ago and I love it. So I’m in the field for half the year and teaching the other half. Thankfully it’s been the cold half. lol. You have a great style and ease of explaining what you’re doing. You’re helping a lot of people in and out of the trade. Ive had a couple of stingers like the one you have. Amazon calls them European style electrode holders. I’ve been using the Stinger V for the past 10 years now. Love that stinger. I just wanted to say hi and tell you I appreciate the work you’re doing.
Thanks, brother. I appreciate that.
I LOVE THIS CONTENT PLEASE DONT STOP
Thank you for the encouragement
I’m barely a recreational welder. Self learned, though be it not very well. I’m learning a bunch from your videos while enjoying every minute. Thanks.
I hope yo see you putting out videos again. I love your channel. Hope everything is going well. Wishing you the best.
I'm a small time mobile welder who absolutely loves stick. It's way easier to do things like "long arc" and manipulate the rod to do what you want it to... but.. self sheilded flux core makes short work of a job like that. It's definitely the rust. I'm assuming you were using e71t-11 and it is a lot like 7018 in the fact that it's way happier with a clean surface. It even gets angry when you try to weld over the slag it leaves behind whereas a 6010/8010 will eat through whatever tf. It seems to be fine with mill scale though. The beauty of e71t-11 is being able to get better penetration than a 6010 with a slightly higher tensile strength than a 7018. Granted, the 7018 has a higher yield strength at 81,000 psi with e71t-11 being 70,000 psi. Most people screw up by having the voltage too high. AWS classifies e71t-11 as a "spray type transfer", and they can achieve that with lower voltages because the wire is hollow. AWS says the optimal settings for .045 self shielded flux core is 17v and 170 wire speed. I just finished up a week long job shooting .045 flux out of a PrimeWeld Mig 180 at 18.2v and 177 wire speed with awesome results. I was rebuilding 1/4" thick i-beam columns and it was laying in smooth with a hiss. Very little spatter that were tiny bbs. The best part is time saved brother. I love stick but the flux is growing on me very quickly. Great video as always.
Over the years I've welded with a lot of different processes, oxy acet, stick, mig, dual shield, tig, subarc, yata yata. My favorite rod is probably 7018 (so long as it's kept in a hot box). Some of my co-workers used to marvel at my overhead and vertical skills, to which I'd reply, it's all about mind over matter. If you don't mind, it don't matter. No, seriously, if you are able to relax and not stress out about the position, it all becomes a lot easier, and your welds will reflect your state of mind.
Back in the day when I smoked rods on a regular basis we used 11018, they burn really well and give that extra tensile strength to hold most anything….
Favorite rod. 7/32 7024, 6010 any size, 7018 any size.
I love your style of passing on knowledge thank you and 6010 is still my favorite all sizes I even like the way it smells lol
Good choice!
Great welder, beautiful quality
Taylor's Life Lesson Episode One. "You gotta watch where you're going, but you gotta remember where you been."
Great video as always super informative.. camera work was awesome, love the puddle close up
Thank you
I don’t even weld but i find this guy very interesting, has a great voice and cadence to want you to listen in. Larry
Thanks for all your time and effort sharing your impressive knowledge and insights
Thank you TB. I appreciate you being here in the comments
@@TaylorWelding It's my pleasure good sir
My favorite welding rod is the last one of the day.😊
"Relax and go off someplace else," -- if you can get there, that's great advice for making time fly.
My first time watching this guy. Great presentation and delivery. I didn’t know Billy Bob Thornton could weld. 😂.
He’s fair.
Great job Chris! I need to stop procrastinating and get a welder.
Hi Chris! Good to see a video from you sir. My favorite rod is .045 Lincoln 71A85 Ultracore ( gas shielded flux core) but, if I have to stick weld; being a structural kinda’ weldor, it’s 7018.
Wow great video so helpful for a young guy trying to learn
7018 5/32 my favorite
Funny thing you mention that about the flux core. I have used lots of flux core, both self sheilding and dual shield. Getting porosity was seldom a problem with the right wire and settings. Sometimes the odd worm track with self shielding flux core. But the only time i recall getting porosity is when there is dirt/sand on the metal or on magnetic pipe. But its also a different technique to weld flux core as compared to mig or stick.
I don’t know what the deal is. It’s got to be the material.
@TaylorWelding it could also be the wire or the settings. It runs on DCEN polarity. Opposite of mig. For self shielding you need a further stick out on the wire. The wire can absorb moisture from the air over time too which can cause porosity. So an old roll sitting in the welder can go bad over time.
Plus not all flux core wire is created equally. Some manufacturers have good quality all the time while others have poor quality control. One roll will be good and the next 💩 and won't weld good no matter how hard you try.
GREAT VIDEO, THANKS 👍👍👍
That's great advice thanks for the info
Fantastic Video !! 🤗
Chris!!! good night brother all the way from NY, I am a season pipeliner and its still such a pleasant time watching you do what you do best, very nice, I hope you land a huge one in the oil fiald of LA I would not mind working for you brother stay safe you're good man.
Thanks brother I appreciate that. I always love hearing from the men that have been in the field doing what we do. Thanks for being here and thank you for the kind words.
Like 6011 rod for a lot of stuff..thks for sharing..Peace
Good info in this video,Little tips like this go along way in a welding career,Thank you ...............................................................Fort Worth,Tx
Damn Chris that weld looked killer. My beads never run half that smooth even when I’ve tried study’n your moves. I’ve just started stick welding in Jan and prolly burned like 100lb of rods so far, actually random I grabbed a 5lb tote of Lincoln 7014 yesterday and wow that thing runs crazy smooth, besides my 6013, 7018, I might just like the 7014 the best this far
Awesome video and very good instructor.
Great advice for any trade. Don’t stress and breath.
That's a slick tip. I wish I would have known that when I did my c ticket , it would have saved me lots of deep painful burns. Thanks Cris , you have an awesome day✌
Thank you
Nice work
I have one thing for the beginners. That muscle control/memory for reaching out and welding or any other odd position you have to use isn't something you start out with. He makes it look easy because he is a vetran welder. It takes time and practice to do it confidently. What I'm saying is don't give up if it doesn't go well even after multiple sessions and situations. It WILL get easier over time. Just keep your cool and work at it.
Great video I like 7018 🙏☮️🇺🇸
Sensational videos. I've been welding MIG to many years and now back with stick, your tips are unique and invaluable 👍
Been running some Esab 7014 for some home projects. Probably one of my favorite rods.
Awesome tips thx man kinda new at welding don't have a big machine well I just have a thunderbox Miller but like the bending your rod and turning it staying back Everytime I have to weld under something it is my downfall and your right neck hurting all bunch up so thx cool tip .....7018 my fav ...
That was a nice camera shot!! Good work!!
You can thank my dad for that.
Alright! It's been a while. Good video, thanks
6013 (farmer rod) for sheet metal. 7018 for almost everything else. 7024 for long , heavy deposit requirements.
hi my friend, been a bit since I visited.....cheers, Paul in Florida
You are the man whoop whoop
I'm a white knuckle welder ! lol...good video as always thanks
Hey FP!! Didnt know u had this channel. Was looking at other welding vids and found this channel.
What a great character . I just sub'd . :)
If I only had one machine it would be a stick welder (SMAW). It's a stick welder, TIG welder, welds most metal like steel aluminum, SS Castiron. Plus can cut, poke a hole in plates and Carbon Arc Gouge...
So my business is named after my grandfather “Tookie”. He always would say exactly what you did, “you gotta watch where you’re going, and remember where you’ve been”. 6:31
Thanks for unlocking that memory of him! Happy welding! 🇺🇸
I never asked because I knew you had most of your experience and knowledge developed on 6010, 7018, and 8010. Doesn't take long to get that if you're old-school and know how to "study a channel" (see/search videos on a channel with good content). But I'll listen and see what you say again. I've got a stack of 6010 (haven't burned it since high school) because this machine will run it, but right now there's an HF start issue on the TIG side and I'm not done sorting that out yet. Glad I have a 3-year warranty.
Okay, I'll get some fat 8010. I have a project in mind for that.
Watch where you're going remember where you've been... Good words.
I love all your welding videos, soo wholesome and fun to learn, you need a welder let me know, I'll be happy to work with you. #ALWAYSLEARNING😁
I'm running outta coat hangers from the closet, need to learn how to use these coated rods someday soon.
Hey man I've been watching your channel for a couple years now. Long story short I'm from Arkansas as well. I always thought you were because of your accent. I'm a welder and I'm currently about to graduate out of a well known "Elite" welding school. I know you probably have heard of it. I would love to reach out to you and just get some advice. I don't know if you'll see my comment. I know you're busy take care
Have you Ever Tried RockMount Tartan AAA Rod? Its a Fast Freeze that will burn through Anything!
Hey if u get a chance, I dont know if you have mentioned it in any of your videos, but you should make some merch for sale, "Taylor Welding" hoodie. I'd buy it to represent, ur a good dude.
Awesome Welder and Teacher Mr. Taylor. Thanks for the tips!
I havent touched a stinger in almost a decade. All spray transfer, t-1 & t-8 currently.
I like your easy going style. Not a welder other than for hobby now and then but I'm sure the industry could use a lot more mentors like yourself.
Thank you
All I use is 6011
Its strange that you cant git flux core to work right Ive run it for about 30 years W/ no problems = sae 400 - LN25- with lincoln MP NR 211 5/64” wire - Puts out beautiful welds
never any holes
And thats with big heat 250-275 Anyway i really enjoy your videos
I keep lookin and i am subscribed. But haven’t seen ya lately-- Larry
What’s a good welder for a DIY’r for around the house or maybe a neighbor needs something done.
TIA
What is the difference in stepping and whipping?
that stinger you got is it similar to the LENCO LT-400? looking for a new one
When I get new rod, I feel like I can weld.
Can you do a 6010 video all the way to cap please
Do you still have extra stubby’s? Would love to buy one off you.
7018 all day, no stepping, no whipping, no 5mm. especially on anything over 1/4"
Have you ever used the millermatic 250x? Did you get good results?
No I haven’t… if I did, I don’t remember it
I got my favorite rod here too.. It's kinda hot, my rod... Hot rod🔥😳
i have seen a few people that like 7014
do you tig??
Good video. My girl got all hot and bothered about you talking "big Rod" and I am in heaven! Thank you!
Rock on!
How can I buy a stringer likes yours
when's the next video coming?
💪
6013. 5 /32
What amperage do you run 5M on your vantage?
I don’t really know a little bit hotter than a 5/32
@@TaylorWelding ok what do you run 5/32 at
I just started using this 500 vantage with digital read out and I can’t seem to find the right amperage
Why don’t you use mig ?
You’re lucky because you can see better than I.
Try some 212 mp on your wire next time
Ok thank you
If I had to make a weld where my life depended on its strength.. I’d say pass me the stinger.
LaGrange 70 is the easiest rod I ever burnt.
flux core will out perform stick 10 to one. We dont use stick anymore. How many weld inspectors I've talked too would like to see stick.."GONE"...FOREVER...all of them...
What is your favorite welding rod?
As far as cattle gaps and such. I know every job Has its own applications and procedures. But I'm just talking about a simple well built cattle gap
My favorite rod is 6011. It gets a bad rap as a "farm rod" because farmers aren't welders.😂
6010 for sure, feels way more forgiving than 7018
I"ve enjoyed 7018 as much as any, but I've never had a REAL welding machine before and had to compromise. Looking fwd to burning some 6010 for that awesome punch and fast freeze. Ask me again in 2 years. But really it's all about the rod that gets the job done properly, that's all that matters.
HYP. Hippies bro.
Anyone else wondering where he’s at haven’t seen a video in a while hope everything is ok
Sorry but did you say 8mm?
5mm
@@wadepatton2433 5mm, got it thanks
Seems like Alota guys ain’t welding much pipe, Soon as Biden goes pipe will come back.
Hey ravioli there's more work for real pipe fitter weldors now than there ever was under trump. If you don't think so maybe you ain't qualified to be welding.
Too Cold
best rod is a fishin rod 🤣
