Here is another trick - that I use everyday I do mostly woodworking and some welding so this trick works for both. Get a 1" flat niobium magnet and a washer (or a thin sheet metal cut to shape) and put the magnet on the inside of your shirt, with the washer on the outside. You have magnetized the washer. Strongest you can buy works best. That means that you can just slap your soap stone/pencil (wood or plastic but with metal clip) to it, take it off mark whatever and slap it back on. You can tell how high/location you need to have it by the number of times the magnet sticks to your metal project. Works equally well with screws that are always just somewhere else. (holds a lot of screws, nuts, bolts, btw).
The only thing I’ve ever used a tip drill for is drilling through my fingernail to relieve the pressure of a blood blister. Probably not medically recommended but, it works very good!!
A friend of mine that worked on a pipeline in Alaska came home with a BBQ just like the one you made. It has been outside for twenty years and it is still just like new.
Really enjoy your videos. Check out the b and d marking soap stone. They are very thin and come in a brass holder. Never have to sharpen soap stone again and it clips right on your pocket. Was a game changer for me. I bought three of four of the brass holders and a whole box of soap stone to refill
The only problem with the medal template is they take up so much room. I’m limited to space in my rig. Curve-o-mark is a must have for all welders in my opinion. Great advice your the man.
Very helpful just knowing these tool exist, would love to hang out with you for a few days of learning.......................................................Fort Worth,Tx
Ive been welding for a hundred years and havn't learned a thing from you that I didn't already know ! But !!! Still watching the vids. Good stuff my friend, keep up the good work.
The red and green quick connects are western brand. They are garbage. I took them apart and cleaned them. I replaced them. The acetylene one will leak when the torch isnt hooked up. Finally gave up and bought a set of the Koike brand. They are doing good so far.
I appreciate all the tips you put out there. Took us 20 plus yrs to learn but man it sure makes me feel good teaching young bucks that have that fire to to get er done.. keep it up brother 💪 🙏
I was watching Austin Ross and he uses 1/16 soap stone. I got some from his store and tried them. The 1/16 thick soapstone has become my favorite soapstone to date. You can get that thin line and don't need to sharpen it ever.
Another shout out for Koike quick-connects! I bought my first ones like 17 years ago. I’m still using those (both for my torches and inert gas fittings) and the only time that I’ve bought more was when I bought additional hoses, regulators, torches or equipment. They’re worth every penny.
Could you show how to properly use a "rosebud", as I am using my #5 it sometimes starts doing mini explosions, then blows it self out. I experiment with different gas pressures and still every so often it starts popping. Thank you for posting the videos.
Thanks for the tips. Got to try a few of them. My uncle gave me a curve marking tool (I don’t know what the proper name is). I used it to mark miters on the ends of 4 1/2” horizontal overhead over a cattle guard entrance. First time I ever saw one used, friend of mine marked upright pipes of a pole barn. Marked and cut them at the angle of the roof pitch then welded rectangular tubing rafters directly to the pipe uprights.
When I was in welding school about 20yrs ago my instructor told us the torch tip was like a woman, be gentle with the holes if you’re not gentle it won’t be no good 😂 and those tip drills are a joke if you even fart when in use, you’re gonna break the bit off 😂

Yes they do. I didn’t realize they’ve been in business for over 100 years making really cool stuff.
Just stumbled across your channel. I've been welding for 15 years and still learning every day. Love your videos, keep em coming!

Maybe you could translate for your father.
Been in business for 7 months now, I have about 5 years of fabrication experience and really enjoy the videos.

Those drill tip cleaners can be great for mig tips when using aluminum wire.
Great video . Can you leave links in the description box so someone new to this welding life can find it ? Thank you
Yes 👍 I’ll try to start doing that
Such awesome information! I’m a welding instructor at a career center and we watch your videos a lot. Thank you🇺🇸
That’s cool! thanks for letting me know.
Where is your career center at?
I like that angle finder would be perfect for the fullerene frame I got going together with my 80 Amp stick. Awesome channel in the pines!

Goooo Jose!!!!
Great video Chris!
That soapstone trick is slick, I normally just use the soapstone holder but that is quick and easy.👌

I remember that aluminum bar from when I was your helper lol

How did your pond/pool invention turn out?
Where do I buy the pipe templates that are solid not slotted? Anywhere online since none of the stores in my area carry the good ones?
I don’t know it seems like you could find them online
What is that specialty tool called Chris I'm interested in buying one
I’m not sure. I will see if I can find the name
Ok thanks really enjoy learning from you and your videos
What you call a saddle is known to me as a fish mouth.

Lol!!! Good one
Flange wizard make a magnetic curve o mark, works a lot better but is pricey…
