I watched this video a couple months ago and immediately booked my ticket from America to Scotland. I’m finishing up the route today and I gotta say it was for sure one of the most amazing times of my life. Thanks GCN 🤘
Nice! I want to do it next year. I'm not really into sleeping outside in the rain though. Did you stay at any B&Bs that you can recommend or did you go for the full outdoors experience?
GCN needs an entire backpacking series. Nothing educational, just the trip, their experiences and the locale. This has got to be my favorite type of riding and my favorite GCN show.
Not even sure these GCN videos can be classified as TH-cam videos anymore...the production quality has gotten so good they're more like short films. Keep up the awesome work!

Shame that all that lovely scenery had to be condensed down to just 3 days. Stop - or go slowly - and smell the flowers guys! Not everything is about how quickly you can do it!
I went to see Mark do a chat for Entrepreneurship week at Dundee Uni in Feb 2018, a great speaker, and very interesting. Great video, the guys made Applecross look doable 👍🙂
I think that's it hey. It's not let's see how many laps of a circuit we can do, it's let's see how wild a route we can do, and then do it in a completely bonkers time. Honestly this one is getting added to my list for routes I'd like to do in Europe next time I get a chance.
Si, you are one lucky guy getting paid to have such amazing experiences. What a bonus bumping into Jenny, you should get her on the show sometime soon.
As someone who as toured quite a bit through Europe and across the United States I can tell you that any day over 100 miles with a fully loaded bike can be absolutely brutal. You really get to know yourself and how tough you are physically and mentally.
I thought your Iceland jaunt was breathtaking but something I could never afford to do. But this... I will have to do, at a slower pace, of course. Britain has amazing countryside and thank you for showing us this fact.
I roadtripped Iceland's ring road by car back in November, which was obviously gorgeous. But watching this, I don't know why I bothered to go so far, Scotland is only a day's drive North and the scenery looks just as good.

This reminded me of the cycling tours of the highlands I've done in the past, especially the north west coast, I could almost smell the clean fresh air, wonderful.
such a good video, for the past few years i have been backpacking in mainland Europe in summer, italy, spain... but i was planning Scotland this year, and this has just solidified that. So cool. Thanks.

Epic. It just went on my bucket list....but not in three days😁. I've only visited Scotland once and loved it....great landscapes, great people, great whisky, and now I see great biking.......ohhh yeah!
Last summer (2018) I explored the NC500 for three weeks, with no expectations; now, my only expectation is that someday I return. I fancy myself as a road aficionado but nothing prepared me for the brutal beauty of The Highlands. I sat on those very chairs in Ullapool. Which reminds me, the only complaint I have is navigating the tsunami of tourists, which places me as part of the problem. However, avoiding the tourist “traps” along the NC500 reveals splendid places to find peace. Great video!
A 2nd comment from me for just having watched this really is to just say thank you for reminding me just how easy it is to just get away from it all and relax. Thank you for sharing the recording with all of us.
For more hill-friendly gearing when bike packing with a road bike, swap out the rear mech for a 9-speed MTB derailleur and a large cassette. Uses the same pull ratio. #gcntech

Watching this video brings back the memories and fuels my desire to return for more epic riding. Keep up the great content.
Long time CGN fan and I've spent all day watching the GCN content regarding bike packing. This one made a grown man weep.
This looks amazing! What a dream. Scotland is beautiful.
Great job Si and Mark. Been watching GCN for a few years and this is now my favorite vid yet. Epic
So cool. Thanks.
Super episode. Wow, great ride, great coverage by the crew and two chance encounters with epic endurance athletes. Thanks GCN.
The beautiful scenery had my eye balls glued to the screen.
It is absolutely stunning!
This two's-up series is excellent.
Scotland is beautiful.
This is what it's all about, and what GCN do best. Utterly brilliant and truly inspirational.
Great video, quite nostalgic for me did this in late May 2018 when we had those two weeks of blistering weather. Was like 25 to 30 degrees most days!
These epic ride style videos are by far my favorite feature of the channel. I watch most of them multiple times.
Sold: I'm going to do this. I don't know when yet (and will take some convincing of my wife), but I'm going to do it.
@Julius Caesar no need for a gravel bike. Just a pair of 28 gatorskin.
I have been struggling to get back out riding again but having watched this the Scotland 500 is definitely on my bucket list. A stunning production. Well done to all.
Love the YES graffiti on the fence at 6 mins 57 secs. Independence, freedom and cycling - what grouping!
Enjoyed this video, your chatter, sense of humor, grit, such a fun(grueling) adventure. 💗💗
This has to be THE BEST GCN video yet.. awesome, great job guys!!
What a cracking video, congratulations on the third place and a big thank you to Shimano for making it happen!
Ooh that was good, very inspiring! Looks like you really lucked out with the weather.
And don't worry Si, your freehub will scare off any predators!
Thank you guys, so looking forward to going home to Scotland now, and doing a lot more exploring.
Exhausted Si reverts to KMs, but Mark stays on message and remembers we're doing this one in miles. Epic vid.
This is brilliant! Excellent cinematography, story telling and feeling. I am obsessed with this video. This is the direction of development I am up for. Congratulation to the crew! Keep up the good stuff!
Incredible stuff. It's on my list so will checking your route... May be take slightly longer to do it, definitely going to factor in some faff time.
Epic. It just went on my bucket list....but not in three days😁. I've only visited Scotland once and loved it....great landscapes, great people, great whisky, and now I see great biking.......ohhh yeah!
So what was your total system weight bike+gear+water? Is wild camping legal in Scotland?
This video gets my "seal" of approval.
I scrolled all the way down for this joke and you didnt disappoint
Last summer (2018) I explored the NC500 for three weeks, with no expectations; now, my only expectation is that someday I return. I fancy myself as a road aficionado but nothing prepared me for the brutal beauty of The Highlands. I sat on those very chairs in Ullapool. Which reminds me, the only complaint I have is navigating the tsunami of tourists, which places me as part of the problem. However, avoiding the tourist “traps” along the NC500 reveals splendid places to find peace. Great video!
The best video I've seen on GCN, well done both
Amazing to watch! Stunning scenery. Well done to both of you for doing it in three days!!
Absolutely amazing, I know where my next cycling holiday is....
If this doesn’t win the #gcninspiration 1st prize there’s no justice!
This was brilliant. I've lived in Australia for 15 years and it's not often that I feel homesick. What an epic ride and film.
Thanks Lesley, Scotland is an incredible country and we were really fortunate to scratch to surface of what is has to offer
This is one of my favourite video here right now
A 2nd comment from me for just having watched this really is to just say thank you for reminding me just how easy it is to just get away from it all and relax. Thank you for sharing the recording with all of us.
For more hill-friendly gearing when bike packing with a road bike, swap out the rear mech for a 9-speed MTB derailleur and a large cassette. Uses the same pull ratio. #gcntech
Does that work if you've had 10sp road cassette? What about the chain? Thx.
