Finally a 'deep sea horrors' video that actually makes Woody and Gus go "AAARGH!" and "EWW!" a few times. Usually you guys end up pretty 'unimpressed' by these collections... 😆
Lindsay’s channel is great too, she does a series called “wtf is that?” Where she identifies weird and crazy looking animals that people find and don’t know what they are

The Humboldt squid can eat each other. Depends on how hungry they are but they have been known to do that. Can’t remember his name but he’s an underwater photographer and he was filming them when a few squid grabbed onto him and dragged him down so fast he actually ruptured an eardrum. Woody’s hat choice today is on point.
Saw the footage. He might have been drowned, as his air tube was gripped.

Random fact about hagfish: When I studied marine biology at JCU in the 90's there was a HUGE grant available to anyone able and willing to study their reproductive behaviour. It was huge, because the grant had been sitting there for decades and no one had gone near it so it kept increasing...

Deep Sea Gigantism is definitely a thing. If you go to the Arctic, everything is bigger. Giant Starfish etc. I seen a Doc on this a long time ago, as well.
Just imagine travelling all the way to the bottom of the ocean just to see a purple octopus plushy.
Scientists have recently been doing large surveys of the Batypelagic zone, also called the Midnight zone (1000m to 4000m deep) while staying way above the ocean floor or Abyssal planes. An area of the ocean they believed to be essentially a desert, and void of life other than passers by, was teeming with undiscovered creature. The Lanturn fish is one of the most famous ones. Itt has a massive role in the CO2 cycle of the atmosphere, even more so than every tree on the planet. I both love and am terrified of the deep ocean. Great vid, thanks guys.

I love this guy, so fast and funny. I'm a nature nut and addicted to documentaries about nature. I particularily like the underwater ones, so have seen most of these creatures before but there's always something new being discovered in the depths of the ocean.

There is a movement to use hagfish slime as a production lubricant. It’s totally non toxic, extremely sustainable. Hagfish farms may be a thing in the future to save other natural resources.

I am not a diver. It has, well had been close to the top on my bucket list, but thanks to your informative videos, I no longer have any desire to die underwater. However, you guys are hilarious and can really lighten my mood. The thumbnail photo on this video almost made me spit my coffee 😅

I just learned about the big finned squid from a TH-camr "The Octopus lady" and this thing is adorable its basically just spaghetti- it dose not have the strength to pull you down and infact It can get tangled up in its arms with a Strong current- poor guy is just trying to chill

A whale missing half of it's tail washed up on the shores someplace in 2013, only problem with this is, that it's the same hunting patterns that Meg's used back in the day to hunt Whales as it's a common place to find Meg Teeth.
Hagfish don't even need to feed with their "mouth", they can absorb nutrients just as efficiently through their skin and gills so they can just lay on a meal.
Love these guys! You should get them on the show for a sit down!

I thought that one accidentally got caught in the wake of the ROV got thrown about. It doesn't look like they move very fast naturally, and you can see how it looks like the poor thing is being dragged around.

Hello there! Nowadays we don't go in person to the deep sea anymore, we have ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) which are lowered down the deep sea and record/collect stuff down there, just so you know!

Portuguese Man of War Jellyfish, My Father was stung by one in Kowloon Bay while he was in the British Army serving in Hong Kong. Said it was the most pain he had ever felt, luckily friends of his realised what happened and saved him.

You mentioned the idea of there being fish we've simply never seen. There's an actual example of that. William Bebee was a pioneer in the field of ecology and a respected scientist and naturalist. He commissioned a bathosphere that he then used to be lowered down off the side of a ship via cables, to observe the deep sea first hand. It was unpowered, just a metal ball with a porthole window. On one of his dives, Bebee went down over 3,000 feet, and observed a fish that had never been seen before, and strangely, has never been seen again, which he tentatively dubbed "the untouchable fish." They were over six feet long, with jaws that they kept open as they swam, with rows of bioluminescent spots running down their sides. They swam together in groups. Bebee documented these fish, described them in detail, even drew some sketches of them. And then they were never seen again. Not by him, or anyone else.
There are three possibilities. The first, and simplest, is that Bebee was lying, and the species was made up. But he was a respected naturalist, a pioneer in the field, part of the New York National Geographic Society during it's infancy. Why would he make this up? He was no fraud or charlatan. This explanation is unlikely.
The second possibility is that these fish were on the verge of extinction, and Bebee was both the first and the last man to ever observe them. At some point in the intervening time between the 1930s and today, they silently went extinct.
And the third possibility is, of course, that the untouchable fish are still out there, somewhere, lurking in the deep. Waiting for someone to rediscover them and confirm Bebee's findings in doing so.
I personally find the idea of a respected and proven naturalist like Bebee lying about a discovery for some imaginary clout to be unlikely. Which means the untouchable fish are still out there, somewhere. A large, six foot long species of fish that we've simply never caught or observed, that was only seen once by sheer chance and then never again. That is just the kind of place that the deep ocean is. The most true statement in Casual Geographic's show is that we know more about the surface of Mars and Venus than we do about our own oceans. The real extraterrestrial activity is happening right here. You want to find real aliens, trade in your telescope for a fishing rod.

They have been known to be one of the few animals to Tie themselves into Knots!
(Up to 30 variations of interlocking be it independent to in groups!)
After some wild creature shakes them and they secrete the ‘slime-which are actually microscopic spools’ the reason why it chokes out fish is because is basically a giant jelly microscopic hairball, like feeding something slimey asbestos insulation it’s not gonna be the best to eat.
they need to get that off of their body to do other things, go they’ll loop their body then go through it tying them self’s into a full knot on their own (most toddlers stuggle with their shoes this is a big deal that a fish can tie knots)
and like a snake peeling away the outer layer will slosh off all that slime when they feed themselves all the way through then they’ll be back to normal.

While laughing about how dumb Woody’s hat is, I couldn’t deny the fact that I want one. Yesterday I heard about a shark attack where a teenage girl was decapitated by an 18 foot great white. So I got out my measuring tape to have an idea of how big 18 feet is, and it was frightening to imagine an animal that big sawing through my flesh and bone.
Hey guys love the videos! Not sure if you have covered it but there's a video that been out for a couple years at least of a guy diving in a busy river probably 75 feet down is when a massive freighter comes straight over head. It's incredible and incredibly stupid and I think it would be a GREAT video for a reaction.

A lot of these species are discovered by homemade subs. Some have taken soil samples at depth and discovered 7000 different species of microorganisms in a single sample.

most people that know nothing about diving such as myself, have heard that as long as you don't Ascend faster than your bubbles do, that's all you need to do to avoid getting the bends. Which I now know is false since I watch your channel , but have you guys ever heard that ?

I lived in China for 10 years, sea cucumber is a delicacy. You have it in soup. Yes, it tastes just as disgusting as it sounds, but it's expensive so it must be good for your health, so the logic goes.
Alot of people in china seem to enjoy disgusting sea food
There's a super cool channel for an exploration vessel called the EV Nautilus. They drive the ship all over the world and send an ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) super far down and live stream what they see. That clip at the end of the scientists roasting the little squid is taken from their channel, from a few years back. Most of the time, they're only finding sand and rocks. But on occasion, they do find some remarkable things.
Giant isopods (cuddleable rolly polly bugs) and oar fish are 2 of my favourite animals. I'm looking to get the oar fish and ocean sunfish tattooed for their largest statuses 😍
I should have kept watching, frilled shark and angler fish are also faves, I got my angler fish tattoo already though. I was watching hoping the barreleye would appear. The way they pivot the eyes facinates me. My love for the underwater animals started my interest in diving content 😍
