The long term effect of coral farming is clear in at least one way. They are farming their own pieces and therefore even if it doesn't bring a net positive to the ocean. It is 100% in the fact that they don't have to cut into living self made coral and it can be left as it should be.

diving at night looks pretty terrifying lol. A dark abyss where you can't see. As an avid kayaker who kayaks alone in the wilderness all the time, I'm even afraid to be out there at night. @@saschaberger7201 I've had people ask me why I kayak alone. But it's not rocket science.
"I restore myself when I'm alone. A career is born in public - talent in privacy." - Marilyn Monroe
Her words here remind us that we make some of our most meaningful progress in private, when we are free of the expectations and projections of others.
There's a great book called "Whitewater Philosophy" by Doug Ammons with a section all about solo kayaking.
It can be argued that in an alone state, you are more aware of your surroundings and paying closer attention to potential obstacles and dangers.
"i learned faces of the river that I never would have seen otherwise. Or subtleties of how the boat moved and how well I could sense the current. I felt much closer to the river because my senses of touch, smell, hearing, and sight were magnified. There were no distractions. The river was the only one talking. And it told me things I would have never known if I weren't alone." -Doug Ammons

he should have gone straight to the hospital for that. their spines are supposed to dig deeper. anyway i've been diving in urchin infested waters, where about 80% of the floor is covered in them, they like to come out at night. with good buoyancy from diving, you'd have no problem staying off the floor. i've also dived in zero visibility (an area that has many commercial ship traffic, and after heavy thunderstorms) - the sea urchins that are native to the area are huge, at 45cm diameters. no problem if you move slowly through the water with your gloved hand in front of you.

i was in November at the Elphinstone Reef at Marsa Alam. I discovered nice red soft corals at the bottom at ~39 m which was 127 ft deep, then i got to figure out where my spare lamp is, because the colors looked horrible on photos of my a6400 without artificial lights. But this was also a no-compression dive according to my computer, but we made safety stop and also a little bit longer.
The second dive was max 80 ft and we saw a Longimanus. Very nice creature and also curious about us diving in a swarm of giant trevallys and suez fusiliers in moderate strong current condition. It was crazy :)
On the other hand i had dives with max 90 ft depth where my computer sad "no dude, make safety stop for 2 mins on 5m".

The compressor that is supplying air being in a small enclosed space is VERY sketchy to me. As a commercial diver, every time we set up our compressors we always make sure that we set it up to where there is almost no chance of the exhaust fumes entering the intake. Maybe they probably have some measure in place to prevent that, but based off this video it looks like bad practice.

Back in the early 80's, while diving Dry Rocks Reef in Pennekamp Park, a swell pushed me into a coral head. I put my hand out to keep from running into the coral and it found a nice big urchin that had crawled into a hole and had its spines sticking out. @#$%&*^ that really burned. When I got back in the boat, we tried to get the spines, (about a dozen) out of my hand. But they were so brittle, they just broke off. The Skipper told me the best thing to do was to knead the palm of my hand on the gunwales of the boat, to break up the spines in my hand. This would allow my body to dissolve the spines quicker. Well let me tell you, that really hurt, but after a day most of the pain from the spines was gone.
Moral of the story... When in swells stay further away from the coral, and leave the urchins in peace.

      @tigrecito48 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Loralanthalas yeah.. i think of viruses more like robots. they are programmed to take over cells & use the resources. some people think viruses evolved from parasitic creatures that gradually got smaller & smaller & needed fewer & fewer parts, becoming more efficient over time.. just like in a martial art where u get rid of all the useless stuff.. its basically just like a program, genes/dna.. software which is why they called computer viruses viruses.. there are also theories on how some species metamorphize.. the theory is that its actually the dna of 2 creatures... originally there was a parasitic relationship between 2 creatures.. one would lay eggs into the other, hatch out... say a butterfly & caterpillar so originally there might have been a fly that laid eggs into a wormlike creature (caterpillar) & that egg hatched into a flying insect (fly/wasp/ or whatever)... but over millions of years, their dna start to combine and it ends up turning them into one species which goes thru the process of metamorphosis.. it ends up being both creatures in one species... also.. if u look up what makes up most of the dna of humans for example.. you would assume its mostly animal right? but no.. its mostly (r a large percentage - i forget the amount) VIRUS... our DNA is made up in a large proportion of previous viruses our species has been infected with and survived for millions of years.. so in some way those viruses have actually reprogrammed humanity to be what it is now and without them we would have been vastly different.

This guy really needs to buy his own fins. I couldn't imagine descending into the darkness wearing socks over sandals.

I understand why local people in a subsistence economy dive like that to live, but the casualty rate is apparently horrendous. Why would you do it out of choice?

sea urchin spines are reverse barbed so you cant you pull them out. peeing on the wound does in fact work, i stepped on one when i worked in greece and my greek landlord told me to do it. i though he was joking but it worked. he shouldnt have broken them off.

Haha 😂 you guys crack me up. When that guys leg slammed into the urchin lol oh my. What was he thinking.
    Then he pees on himself😂.
I mean when I lived on Oahu for 2 years and I got a man of war stuck on my leg or arm. I peed on it lol. I can’t remember if it helped or not!!

I once went deep sea diving once, 15 whole feet down and I couldn't see the top because my face was looking down!

ngl I don't envy his urchin sting! I would just never without a wetsuit XD Loved how happy he was after the dive though!

As soon as these guys mentioned coral I knew it wasn't going to be deeper than 30 feet, at the very most. Come on, Gus and Woody. They said that just after Gus complained about falsely labeling dives as deep sea.

I don't understand why the tall guy didn't bring a wetsuit and other accessories from home instead of relying on the place you're going having your size. That's crazy!
