Exactly the same boat! Base 2019 MBP which was epic when it launched and looked like a great deal. Then the M1 air came in. I upgraded in a jiffy and I can’t be happier. Soooo good!
How is this slow time on the intel one even possible to begin with?? My boot time on my i5 6300u x270 thinkpad with only two cores can boot up in less than 20 seconds running PopOS. Something aint right bout the test man
Dont know where u get this MBP i5, but my shuts down with turned on apps in - 14 sec. Turn on in - 20sec and log in in - 3.4sec.. That will be correct compare :)

It’s probably too late, but the m1 is a much, much better investment, even now. The intel should serve you just fine if you don’t plan to use it for much, but the m1 is just much better to have.

Hi, I wouldn't recommend it for heavy softwares, photoshop is fine but the other ones that you've mentioned - it won't be able to handle it. I am struggling with video rendering and other heavy usage such as photoshop, illustrator etc.. (video coming in a few days about that issue!) So I recommend you getting the MacBook Pro with 16gb ram. In terms of paying for them, depends if there free or paid ones. Photoshop you have to pay for it

Aha I've used both and the m1 has the best battery life where the Intel i5 battery drains out very quick. I would do another test but I only have the m1 macbook air now lol

I had a late 2019 base model Intel MBP and I sold it for a base model M1 MBA. Couldn't been happier. No fan, no heat! What a beast this machine is.

The hard drive size, (256GB or 512GB), and information saved on it will have affect on booting time. Booting after clean install will affect it too.

i have the 2020 i5 and its lack of cooling is what kills the cpu performance
