Really feel like that computer is so good, apple had an extremely hard time justifying an upgrade even now and I could see myself using this computer another 3 years
Bro unified memory means the CPU and GPU can access the same memory pool. It isn’t anything groundbreaking. Also the ram filling up will cause macOS to use the swap memory and this will hurt the SSD health in the long run.

Just traded my m1 air for m1 14 pro with 16gb. Amazing difference. $1100 well spent. But the air was fine 95 percent if the time. If I didn’t run multiple monitors and use some super large files, I would have been fine with the air. I miss its size
For the college student, agree a refurbished (or if you can swing it for a apple certified refurbished) is well worth it. For those of us with a bit more expendable income, I would 100% recommend just skipping the m1 and just finding an m1 pro or some form of a Macbook Pro, way better long term investment and still easily able to compete with the latest variants (plus the increase on RAM and onboard storage inherent with the Pro's is just worth it too).
I bought a MacBook Pro M1 with 512 Gigs like 2 Months ago. It's perfect and has more than enough power for me. But because I resell Apple devices I have greats of offers for myself like the MBP with the M1 Pro I bought for only 730 Bucks. I consider keeping that one because it has 16gb of Ram
it's the perfect laptop for students imo. it's what they call an ol reliable. it can do anything you realistically need on a day-to-day basis and it lasts the entire day. the refurbished deals are killer too you just get so much for what you pay. if you end up selling it, you can still get a decent deal because macs hold value compared to other laptops, especially the m-series macs.
W video Andrés Im actually in the market for a laptop and was and am still in a little debate on what to get this video might’ve helped me to accomplish what to get
I have a MBA M2 with 8 Ram and never reaches 7gb of ram, mostly of the time is about 5-6. My workflow is a normal one, so at this time (1 year old), I don't regret it. In the future, who knows.
I loved my Macbook M1, but I had to sell it because of battery capacity and a little crack under the screen, I bought an M2. Still, miss the wedge design
I'm watching this on a 2017 MacBook Pro using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher with the latest Sonoma. I replaced the thermal paste with Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut, and this machine is still a beast. I also use it for full-stack JavaScript development.
I bought a higher spec 13" Intel MacBook Pro in 2020 - then like 3 weeks later, they launched the first M1 Macs. I kept that 13" thinking it would be fine and didn't want to be all "consumerist" about it. Yeah, I really wish I'd returned/sold that thing ASAP and just bought an M1 Air or Pro. I could still be using it now without issue. The M1s have held up crazy well. My Intel version is officially the worst laptop I've ever owned - entirely because of the garbage CPU in it (a battery guzzling space heater), to the point that I sold it last year.
I am running a base model m1 MacBook Pro for my music producing and it does awesome. No reason to get rid of it unless I got for an M1 Pro with 16gb ram.
I got a m2 mba with 1tb and 24gb of ram at a great price and it performs flawlessly. I was thinking about upgrading to the new m4 when it releases but I think I can wait a few more years.
Can you get it? Yes. Should you get it? No. The base M3 is selling at $899, with better spec and 4 more years of software update. You can get an Intel mac if you want to but why handicap yourself if you can stretch $200 more for an objectively better machine?
My wife is still using my old 2012 MBP. And would like to keep it alive because it is Intel based…and I have a VMWare VM collection I still access. However, for practical usage it may be time to move on to Apple Silicon.
8 GB on the M3 MacBook Pro has been perfectly fine for me. Workflow is more towards web development and graphic design, with very light video editing in the future. (dedicated rig for all the heavier stuff)
Looking at one of these with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage used. Still worth it as we approach 2025? I work in IT and would be coming from a Windows background...

I still using Macbook air M1 with the perform 16/512. It's so good in this time for Quality Control engineer
We need a cinematic course or something you guys make it look so easy 🔥🔥
This video made me buy the MacBook Air M1 base variant. Amazing video!
Got mine on amazon for 429, its worth it on amazon, just need a really reputable seller
this macbook should be the macbook SE, M1 is powerful enough for years to come
This was such a great video!!! Buying a used one and your intel was perfect!
" it lives closer to CPU, hence fast"
This statement from a tech youtuber
it's the perfect laptop for students imo. it's what they call an ol reliable. it can do anything you realistically need on a day-to-day basis and it lasts the entire day. the refurbished deals are killer too you just get so much for what you pay. if you end up selling it, you can still get a decent deal because macs hold value compared to other laptops, especially the m-series macs.
Watching on a MBA M1 as well and I fricking love it! Best thing I saved up and got in my life
W video Andrés Im actually in the market for a laptop and was and am still in a little debate on what to get this video might’ve helped me to accomplish what to get
Love my lil wedge, more than enough for anything I use it for! Great review!
I have a MBA M2 with 8 Ram and never reaches 7gb of ram, mostly of the time is about 5-6. My workflow is a normal one, so at this time (1 year old), I don't regret it. In the future, who knows.
Historically the Pro still lasts longer performance wise. But M1 for sure is still a good purchase today for the Pro and Air
13 or 15 inches?
@@dimakonstanta1868 15 inch model and I just installed sequoia rc release - still kicking
Got the new M3 Pro for uni (cs as well) and its the best decision ever made
watching this video on my M1 macbook air is a treat.🤩
Please make more macbook videos. We would love a video on m2 macbook air. Loving your videos❤
I am still using my mid 2015 MacBook Pro 13”…..and still also have a 27” iMac 2009…
I got a m2 mba with 1tb and 24gb of ram at a great price and it performs flawlessly. I was thinking about upgrading to the new m4 when it releases but I think I can wait a few more years.
Amazing review! The drilling 😅.
Can you get it? Yes. Should you get it? No. The base M3 is selling at $899, with better spec and 4 more years of software update. You can get an Intel mac if you want to but why handicap yourself if you can stretch $200 more for an objectively better machine?
The m3 is a good deal too but for some people the $300 difference isnt worth it
@@Htiy the additional years of OS update, re-design, better display and speakers, Magsafe, etc. I'd say it's 100% worth it.
An m1 pro or m2 would be a better choice
@@ArcticPrimal not the M2 because of the 128GB nan chip
In my country the base m3 is something like $1000 to $1100 😢
My wife is still using my old 2012 MBP.
(dedicated rig for all the heavier stuff)
the m1 airs from walmart are not only 650$ but also new :)
Just got it and its been 4 days W MacBook fr
Looking at one of these with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage used. Still worth it as we approach 2025? I work in IT and would be coming from a Windows background...
Hey Andrez, another great video!
Wow, this is amazing! I'm currently using an M1 MacBook Air 256GB as my main computer/laptop for work and it's still going strong. It's actually faster than my work desktop, which is an old Core i5 8th gen with dual monitors and 16GB of RAM.
If you're thinking about getting an M1 MacBook Air, I highly recommend it. You won't regret it. But if you can afford it, I'd suggest getting the latest model. It'll last you even longer than you expect.
Still using it, it's the same as day one. Don't need to upgrade,
