the drum beat here is definitely for radio friendly unit shifter, holy shit they started making this song like 3 years before it was released on In Utero
yeah, so what I mean is if they had the drum beat down for the song in 1990 and begun working on it in 1990, that was 3 years before its release in 1993 if you get me?

This is when they recorded with john peel in the peel sessions. This includes Turnaround, Molly's Lips and Son Of A Gun. The drumming at the end is not radio friendly unit shifter as that was not written and demoed until 1991. The drumming is in fact Son Of A Gun which was released 2 years later along with the other peel sessions songs on Incesticide.
Can anybody figure out what kind of kit he’s using? Looks like a 24” or 22” x 14” kick, 13”x9” tom, 18”x16” floor tom, and a 14”x6.5” snare. Major size reduction compared to Dave touring kits, and based on the lugs they don’t look like the Tama kits he usually played at the time. At the very least I can see that it’s not set up with the “terminator” snare based on the color.
Oh yes! I think in the song 'Dont Want it All' its him playing bass among other earlier songs he also played bass in. The bass sounds really good in that song in particular though. I think he came up for the bass part in Hairspray Queen as well.
While it's possible that he had some ideas as musicians and writers quite often have songs in the making for years/cut it out of certain albums and release some many years and albums later, it's also very likely that he was just playing a pretty simple beat. You usually want to do that to check audio levels etc :)
Around 0:45, you can hear the same drum pattern starting around 0:30 seconds th-cam.com/video/SBjQ9tuuTJQ/w-d-xo.html on the song Foo Fighters - The Pretender
Lol that sounds like something Howard Stern would say. ANY time he talks to Dave he's always like "that's about Kurt Cobain." "Oh you mean Kurt Cobain in that song right?" "Did you write that about Kurt? I know you're gonna say no but it's obviously about him." "When I first heard my hero I knew it was about Kurt Cobain" He seriously does that every time. Poor Dave is always like "no its about [insert explanation]" but Howard never believes him. He's determined that basically everything Dave writes is about Kurt. Even when the man himself corrects him, he just doesn't ever ever listen. Lol. Dave is a saint for never losing his cool.
Kurt can drum pretty decent. I bet he can play the bass. He has played the piano. Cobain has played the drums b4. As he's pretty good at guitar, both acoustic + electric.
