      @@kitchenraw Atleast they are giving an open for all app with most iconic primary functions. When compared to Subsciption model of certain apps it's still much better.
      I just bought the app last month for my personal projects and to support the dev & team making this one of a kind project independently.
      Still the one time payement has much more value to give than what it asks for in long term as the app gets better.

    I understand these were test shots but they are quite artistic and your relaxed voice and the perfect music makes for quite the mysterious short film... the plot is coming together in my head :D Is it possible to shoot 12-bit RAW, or is that something limited to the R5 and Nikon Z8?

      Haha thank you! For Samsung Galaxy s24 Ultra, I can see "RAW SENSOR 10" and "RAW SENSOR" options. The first one records 10bit definitely, I heard some people mentioned that "RAW SENSOR" option records 12bit (depending on the phone) never had a detailed test on it tho.

  • @patrickechers

    If this is true... It's insane coming out of a phone camera.
    I mean, I notice the noisy areas in the dark shadows when lifted, but heck... It's possible?
    I'm impressed...

    • @kitchenraw
      @kitchenraw  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes that is true. There are other videos online you can find, or you can download and try. Unprocessed raw images coming from the camera can be really noisy in the dark, that's why they put a feature in the app called "noise reduction by stacking" which works well. Some of the footages in my videos have this feature off and some of them are on.

    • @patrickechers
      @patrickechers ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@kitchenraw I am really impressed by the video. Well produced.
      I'm just wondering why Samsung or Google wouldn't offer this feature in their standard photos app if the phone/camera is capable?
      It looks like its the app that unlocks this feature in the camera...
      And yes, the noisy areas is due to low sensor sizes etc. It wasn't to critique. I am truly impressed of the outcome from a PHONE!
      It's truly insane.

    • @kitchenraw
      @kitchenraw  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Patrick Echers Thank you 🙏🙏. I think they are avoiding this feature because the videos take crazy amount of space. 1 minute long raw video is taking 14 to 20 gbyte of space in your hard drive, it records almost the same size as my Black Magic Cinema Camera. Another problem is that the workflow is too complicated and takes a lot of time. The best they can do is maybe producing 10bit prores videos like iPhone 14 Pros, but raw video recording can get complicated to proccess. Even recording raw videos with a dedicated cinema camera is complicated 😕

    Everyone is encouraged to purchase the pay version, both out of respect for the developers and in your own interest. The price is peanuts compared to what others charge, not to mention the growing tendency toward pay-as-you-go licenses. This still buys you the very best smartphone video app around, no holds barred - trust me, I have extensively worked with all the main ones. I do not denigrate anyone, I just say that MotionCam is unbelievable. If you do not want 10-bit raw, there are several good alternatives. But if you do, think about what you would have to dish out should MotionCam stop developing the app.

    • @kitchenraw
      @kitchenraw  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Honestly, no. I can't even tell the difference bc all the smartphones are using similar sensors. Small sensors create noise in general unless you are using a phone camera with a 1-inch or bigger sensor size like Sony or Xiaomi 12s Ultra.

    • @theclifbar

      S23 and S24 use 1/1.3 inch sensors, which is more or less similar to the so-called 1-inch sensors. They're all pretty small, but are better compared to older smartphone sensors or the ones in wide angle and telephoto phone lenses

Just wondering if you have also tried recording in a log or flat profile and how you would do that.

      Thank you so much! Finally, someone is telling me not to to use Expert Raw :) I ve been trying to explain why Expert Raw is not actually Raw. I hate the oversharpened, unrealistic look of it. Maybe good for daily use and good for people who are not good with technology :) I used the log also flat profile with prores format, which is only available for Motioncam Pro. I tried color grading with Davinci, and it looks identical to Raw recording and it is easier to handle, edit etc. I am mostly explaining the Raw video workflow bc it is available to everyone included with the free version.

    you already know motioncam results will keep getting better since phone cams will keep upgrading.
    Since motion has been out, newer phones have come out that show a difference from an earlier series model. S25 is coming that will be sharper and clearer than S24,S24 is sharper and clearer than S22 and S20,The model I have s20fe is less sharper and less clear than S22-24. Just imagine how much more detail the S40-50 will have using a monster program like Motioncam. I'm glad to witness history.

      @user-ch3iy7wm9f For Motioncam's Raw Video recording, you need to select "RAW VIDEO" at the bottom first. After recording the video, it will show you the preview in low res format bc they are not a video yet. They are single individual frames. To be able to see the full res video, you need to export it as a video. You can also use the "Motioncam Tools" app from their website to create a video from Raw footage. There are lots of tutorials about how you work on those files on TH-cam. It sounds complicated, but it is not when you start learning. These are the opposite of RAW. But between the two it depend on the processing power of your computer or if you want to save storage space. HVEC is a high-quality codec design to save space and reduce file size. The negative is that it take a lot of processing power to decode, which shouldn't be an issue with a modern mid-tier or above computer. H-264 is the legacy codec, a predecessro to HVEC.

I respected their effort bc it is a small team of individual developers. They also mentioned that some phones drops frame in certain settings, but another model is working without problem with same settings. I think you need to play around with your settings (frame rates, bit rates, etc) and find which one works the best.
