      @@SuperDave30 while it is not NBA-related, if the Oakland A's had to move, I would rather have the team in Portland/Vancouver, WA area, NOT Vegas (despite the presence of the NHL's Golden Knights, and the NFL's Raiders there, although personally, I would have rather seen the Chargers stay in San Diego and the Raiders move back to Los Angeles). Having the A's in the Portland/Vancouver, WA area would have made a great Pacific Northwest (and American League) version of the historic Dodgers-Giants rivalry (which goes back to their days in New York City - Giants at the Polo Grounds in Upper Manhattan across the Harlem River from Yankee Stadium; Dodgers at Ebbet's Field in Brooklyn near the Atlantic Yards where the Nets play today) between them and the Mariners. It would have also made traveling easier and balanced out the differences in distances between each AL and NL team on the "Left Coast".

      You are correct in that Washington Sports Teams have always made claims to the Virginia market given the location and population of Northern Virginia. With any Virginia team you have also have to consider the population of some sections of North Carolina, who are much closer to Virginia than some of the major cities in North Carolina (part of Hampton Roads get its water from NC out of lake gaston and the main hospital in Norfolk has control of the hospital in Elizabeth City, NC where there is a coast guard base). If you are going to put a team in Virginia the best bet would Norfolk or Hampton, which means the only sports that would make sense would be basketball and possibly hockey given you can use the Norfolk Scope or the Hampton Coliseum.

People in Lexington, Ashland and Owensboro generally ignore U of L basketball. The rest of the state centers around Lexington, in terms of basketball and overall state identity. That's fine; the state has much to be proud of. But it is a different mindset and different place from Louisville. Besides, major league sports are city-rooted. Montreal has up to 5 million in it's metro area (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_census_metropolitan_areas_and_agglomerations_in_Canada) and it wouldn't just be Montreal's team, but Quebec's team and maybe even Eastern Canada's team considering the Maritimes. Yes, French is the official language in Quebec, but in Montreal, you can speak English as well. Also, Montreal is arguably the most cosmopolitan city in Canada, with Arabs, Latinos, Caribbeans, and Italians as well as those French Canadians scattered all throughout Quebec.
      Lastly, Canada is just too big (38 million and counting), just to have one basketball team. California has up to 4 basketball teams and Cali has about the same number of people as Canada.

As it would likely require a brand new arena (without the Molson's involvement) and Quebec's notorious history with any Public/Private construction contracts and a potential $1billion+ cost to build, it just doesn't seem likely. Considering the city only just paid off the Big O I think Quebec & its business community has bigger priorities than attracting an NBA team at the cost of likely over $5billion.

    I would only *fully endorse* these 4 areas for an NBA team:
    *Seattle* (historical purposes; teams in other leagues; *would complete 4/4 in major sports*) {Northwest Division}
    *St. Louis* (historical purposes; teams in other leagues; would be 3/4 in major sports and would have been 4 if the Rams didn’t move) {Southwest division}
    *Pittsburgh* (historical purposes; teams in other leagues; *would complete 4/4 in major sports*) {Central Division}
    *Vegas* (because it’s inevitable; would be 3/4 in major sports)
    {Pacific division}
    The following would complete +1 team per geographical area for each division:
    *Tampa* (up-and-coming economy; successful sports teams; can they be profitable right now? I don’t know how I feel about 3 Floridian teams but *would complete 4/4 in major sports*) {Southeast Division}
    *Buffalo* (there’s historical value, 2 other successful professional team but Toronto has a basketball team and is close in proximity vice versa for Buffalo Bills games for fans in Toronto. It might only make sense for Hockey; both are cold climates and hockey is extremely popular. Would be 3/4 in major sports). {Atlantic Division}
    On the fence:
    San Diego (there’s historical value; an MLB team but is losing traction in the sports world. Just lost the Chargers. Only 1 major professional team left)
    Kansas City (there’s historical value; teams in other leagues. I don’t know if it is wise to give Missouri 2 teams right off the bat).
    Cincinnati: (there’s historical value; an NFL team; I don’t know if another Ohioan team is a great idea for business).
    Columbus: (there’s historical value; the highest populated city in Ohio; teams in lesser leagues; I don’t know if another Ohioan team is a great idea for business).
    Honorable mentions:
    Louisville, Kentucky (historical value having won a championship in the ABA as the Kentucky Colonels; obviously a big basketball state but doesn’t have any professional teams).
    Virginia (historical value, though there was a new piece regarding the relocation of both Wizards and Captials to the state; currently zero professional teams. Has the population to be successful).
    Baltimore (in the cross-hairs between Washington DC and Virginia looking to assume the DC market in relocation bids; has 2 professional teams. It’s former NBA team became the Washington team.)

    I wonder why St. Louis is never in the conversation for possible NBA team. They have a great dedicated fanbase for the Cardinals and Blues and are geographically far enough away from another market (unlike the Virginia and Anaheim proposals). And also, I understand Vancouver is a huge, bustling city but they failed horribly with the Grizzlies. What would change this time with a new expansion?
    Also, not to get political here but I wonder how long Portland, OR will be a viable city for the Trail Blazers? Will the decline of the city as a whole with crime, constant political unrest, declining population, etc eventually impact the economics of the team? Maybe they'd be a candidate for relocation someday. The Blazers have a long, storied history in that city but so did the Supersonics in Seattle.

      @Adam McAllister agreed. They already have the Lakers and Clippers in LA alone (near Anaheim) and the Warriors in San Francisco, and the Kings in Sacramento. They do not need a 5th Team in California or a 3rd one near LA.

      @@adammcallister5773 Western cities have a real advantage with the conference setup because there are far fewer large cities in the western half of the USA than the eastern half, and when they try to get one western and one eastern, it is getting to the point where every western metro of a significant size has a team or is up for a team, while a lot of deserving markets in the east get passed over.
      That said, I do think Seattle, San Diego, St. Louis make good sense, and that Cincinnati, Louisville, Norfolk, Kansas City, Baltimore, Vancouver, Raleigh-Durham, and Jacksonville make sense.
