You saying that fans love Adam sliver is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard yet. 50 percent of fans have left, nobody in media cares to ask them what they think of Sliver. Stern cared about the fans, Sliver hates the fans. NBA use to be so cool until divisions got thrown away, superteams started getting encouraged, players stopped playing, everyone started making the playoffs and the regular season became a joke. All of these things wouldn’t have happened under Stern. A fun boss isn’t a good boss. The NBA is a joke. I wish more than anything we could have a real commissioner. I miss basketball.
1. NBA fans do not like Silver. 2. Ring culture is the direct result of the media trying to force a goat conversation when none exists 3. Build back men's college BB and you help to rebuild the NBA. See the women's game as an example
Excellent viewpoint. I'm so over everyone in the media constantly propping up this overrated league. I would rather watch a block of ice melt than boring NBA.
They need to bring back physicality, 3 pt revolution has made NBA a bad TV product. Mark Cuban selling Mavericks stake is a major indication of the direction of the NBA. I would rather watch NFL preseason over most NBA playoff games.
I used to be a huge Lakers fan going back to Magic's first year. I checked out during Kobe's last year because that was just lame. I tried watching a few games with LeBag but I found it to be unwatchable. I keep thinking that I will be able to get back into the Lakers after he's gone but the problem may be deeper than that. Basketball in general, is boring as hell now. These selfish narcissists can't even suit up every game and certainly are not giving maximum effort. Hard to watch after seeing Celtics Lakers in the 80s, Jordan, and Shaq and Kobe. Everybody played their ass off, every game, at a higher level than all but a handful of today's superstars. LeBone is NOT the goat, not even close. He's big but I'd take Kobe or Magic over him any day. Plus, Kareem spent 4 years in college, so the scoring title is skewed. Retire already!
Great episode. I agree with everything you mentioned. The part about player development is what got me though. I’m a believer that the NBA should utilize the G-League as a full-fledged minor league system similar to baseball. I think that’ll prepare players better for the highest level, and it’ll actually make the 2nd round of the draft worth watching. I’m not a fan of it being on a different night!
100%. I actually think the academy model could work out well, but, like everything else, it's all about how you incentivize the best ameateur players to commit to it at a young age.
What people don’t understand is the NBA is a global entity, whereas the NFL is a domestic love affair. For instance, the official NBA TH-cam channel has 22 million subscribers, while the NFL has 12 million. Internationally, the NBA is king and the NFL is too gimmicky for the global stage. What does this mean? The money is deep and the 2024 Summer Olympics will set the stage for which country owns basketball supremacy. If team USA fails to win gold, it will be an embarrassment. Basketball is big folks, if you don’t follow it, you’re missing out.
The all star game is for sponsors at this point. They know what they are buying and don't expect more than 4-5 million viewers. But my complaint is that it is really just a microcosm of the greater NBA today - less effort, more coasting, fans get screwed.
they could try USA vs international TEAM , whit price money for the players and charity org. for the international countrys if they win. But also could fail cause, ring coulture is to strong lol. great vid JOE . I miss the show whit your brothers
IMO, there has to be a strong incentive (home court advantage, cash prize, etc.) for the players to even considering taking it seriously. The injury risk just isn't worth it for them. But like I said, the bigger problem is how this attitude has spilled over to the regular season. I hope it gets better!
People only watch nba because of lebron...to see if he can pass michael jordan and his 6 rings. Some want him to win and some want him to lose. When lebron not in nba finals. Nobody watching... because people don't care if luka and Tatum or jaylen brown win a ring or not

You pulled those numbers out of your ass

Bring back physical defense, rebounding and post play.
NBA needs to return to NBC since ESPN is dying
It's all about 3-pointers now 🤷♂️
@@joepompshow well I hate and basketball needs to hit a reset button
We need wrestling to come back as well

Great observation Joe!
It would be great to hear your opinion about the NHL league's current state after many lockouts in the past 20 years.
I'll have to break it down on the podcast! Thanks for watching.

Weird
@@aroaris843 Not really. Many others share the same viewpoint.

@@fantasticvoyage262 to each their own. The playoff ratings were strong last year. Globally it’s a great product. MLB on the other hand is dying

The NBA is unwatchable. The games feel scripted and its a 3 point shooting contest and no defense.
Some playoff matchups can be exiting. More the second half

Have you watched the NFL Pro Bowl recently?
Please do the British Rugby league and worldwide rugby leagues.

They're putting too much attention on the All Star game. It should once every 4 years like the Olympics.

The NHL tried to make the game an international competition. And it never worked. And it won't work here.
Nba is fine. Moving on.
