Hawks started out as the Buffalo Bisons in 1946 in Buffalo, New York, a member of the National Basketball League (NBL) owned by Ben Kerner and Leo Ferris.[9] After 38 days in Buffalo, the team moved to Moline, Illinois, where they were renamed the Tri-Cities Blackhawks.

I remember going to a "NBA in Baltimore" seminar at the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards" and Mike Rierdon said the only time the then Baltimore Civic Center was packed was when the Knicks came to town. Actually the Bullets played a couple of game a year in College Park at Cole Field House at the University of Maryland and were drawing better and that might have influenced owner Abe Pollin to build the Capital Centre and move to Landover, near DC. Baltimore had the Memphis ABA team move to that city as the Hustlers, then they became the Claws, but were underfunded and folded before the season started.

There is another story behind the Minneapolis Lakers. Everyone says the team name was derived because the state of Minnesota was known for
being the land of 10,000 lakes, but also because there was these huge
ships during WWII were going up and down the St. Lawrence Seaway known as "lakers". They were known for carrying agricultural products.

No, no, no. The Kings did not leave KC because of a lack of attendance. They left KC because ownership were corrupt incompetent pieces of sh*t that had no idea how to market or manage the team. Instead of actually making lengths to improve their public image with Kansas City, they just left for the bigger Sacramento market and tried to blame the fans for them leaving. Please try not to spoil KC's good name. The college basketball Hall of Fame is located at Sprint Center in KC and hold the annual Big 12 conference championship tournament there every year. Interest in the sport was never the problem, ownership just wanted a fresh start after permanently destroying any good faith with the fans.

Sacramento is not bigger than KC or it wasn't at the time. KC also has a larger regional market to pull from. The Kings left because the owners never even tried to make it work and KC's indoor soccer team, the Comets, wildly popular at the time as they were out drawing most NBA teams.

Seems that relocations to say this as to say Mobile Flyers or Mobile Ultras that is where Boeing’s competitor make their planes, yet doing the Alabama/Seattle rivalry or to say the Mobile basketball team have LeBron and other set of good players to play in Mobile, seems to say that Airbus outperforming Boeing.
The Mobile team will have an Arena to be called the Airbus Arena, to see how it goes.
An expansion team in Toronto will be called the Huskies as to Raptors where to relocate to Pittsburgh as where they going to stay or what not if Pittsburgh will have an NBA team or the Raptors at Pittsburgh will build another Dynasty like the Chicago Bulls with the Raptors moving to Pittsburgh.
A Raptors/6ers rivalry will be very nice.

The N.O. Pelicans ARE the old Charlotte Hornets, and the current Hornets started as the Bobcats. A team cannot "reclaim history," because history is based on fact. History is not arbitrary! The current Cleveland Browns were an NFL expansion team in 1999. Jimmy Brown, Bernie Kosar, et al, never played for them. They played for the Ravens! (when they were still in Cleveland).

Jim Brown and Bernie Kosar played for the original Cleveland Browns (1946-95). The Browns suspended play and put together a trust, keeping the team's records, history and heritage in Cleveland when a new owner

Yes. The Denver Nuggets began as the Rockets in 1967. They were named for Bill Ringsby's trucking company, Rocket Trucking System. In 1974, while the team was in the ABA, Ringsby sold the team to local investors, and the franchise was renamed the Nuggets, after an earlier franchise that played in the city (1949-50); also because the NBA had a franchise in
Houston called the Rockets, the Denver team would be sued if the Rockets name used if the merger between between the brown ball league and the ABA took place.

    • @Embargoman

@@squidMB It’s possible, for to say Vancouver getting a franchise probably Memphis either will lose their team or change the name of the team to the Memphis Blues, and the Grizzlies new team will get the old record of the Grizzlies, while the Grizzlies becomes the Blues.
The relaunch of the Huskies will also bring out another team in Pennsylvania and this time is the Raptors, yet moving the Raptors from to Toronto to Pittsburgh also have a color change in the team from Purple and Red to Black and Yellow on the colors that identify Pittsburgh, while reintroducing the Huskies in Toronto.
Las Vegas will have a team to might be called the Las Vegas Bandits or Gems or whatever they will call it.
Let’s say Bandits they will play at the same arena as the Golden Knights, well how would The Las Vegas Bandits will play and probably against the Montreal Musketeers, as to say for Quebec to get a basketball team either the Bandits play at home in Las Vegas or the Bandits play on the road in Montreal against the Musketeers.
Saint Louis will have the Spirits probably St. Louis Spirits might play in Toronto against the Huskies or in Pittsburgh against the Raptors.
So if the NBA expansion teams where to be created the roster will look like this:
      Las Vegas Bandits
      Seattle Sonics(formerly Pelicans)
      Memphis Blues(formerly Grizzlies)
      Toronto Huskies
      Pittsburgh Raptors
      Vancouver Grizzlies
      St. Louis Spirit
      Montreal Musketeers
Then two others on the list:
      Alabama Flyers
      Austin Rodeo
For say Alabama Flyers play in Mobile where Boeing’s competitor is located where they make the Airbus A320, and their home arena will be called Airbus Arena.

      Ancross Gaming
They aren't. To answer your question, the Grizzlies are in the WEST because they started out as the Vancouver Grizzlies, located only a few hours north of Seattle in Canada. After relocating the team, the Grizzlies decided to stay in the Western Conference even after moving to Memphis. They did, however, change divisions, going from the Northwest to the Southwest.

When the NBA brought a franchise to Vancouver, the owners wanted to
call the team the Mounties (ironically, the city had a minor league baseball team by that name and once was a farm club of the Baltimore
Orioles when Paul Richards was manager during the late 1950s), but the league could not receive clearance from the RCMP for permission to do
      so.
