KIA STINGER GT (2018) // She loves it but do we care?

- Our review of an important car for Kia, the Stinger GT. It is a genuine sports saloon to rival, say, the BMW 540i M-sport? What's it really like to drive. Now it's a couple of years old, should you buy one? Is it a worthy successor, as has often been suggested by others, for the V8 Commodore and Falcon? We take it on a spirited road test to find out.
If you enjoy our review, please give it a like and do subscribe. We'd love to hear from you so leave a comment, and please feel free to share on social media or with your motoring friends. Thanks for your support. It matters!

I have a 2020 GT and I love it. Best car I have ever owned and I have had some rippers.
When all things considered, price, performance, standard equipment, driving experience and warranty, there is nothing that is close to it on the road.
If you goal was to do something better and different than other videos out there, you have accomplished it with this video. Very impressed and tells we what I really care about as an enthusiast. You have done the community a great service with content like this.
Thank you!
Thanks for your comments we really appreciate them. You’re correct our aim was to do something different and I hope we’ve achieved this. I just got sick of watching reviews that focus on cup holders and phone connectivity and perhaps drive the car for 10% of their vid around a suburban street. We love driving and cars and I hope that comes across.

I placed my order for a kis stinger GT last month. Delivery date feb 2023 and I am so looking forward to it. Black with Red interior.
Fantastic video as usual guys. Have you guys considered doing a podcast where you talk about your own cars etc? I look forward to the next video!
Thanks we appreciate your comment. I’m sure Stu would be up for a podcast ! Lots of cool cars coming up, I hope you enjoy them.
If you disable all driver assist options in sport mode when using the paddles the gearbox won't up and down shift or switch back to drive.
There’s a damn good reason there’s no 7 year warranty on a 5 series. Few people know but 3, 5 and 7 are actually the number of years that it is financially viable to maintain a bmw based on average km per year.
Nah, BMW are just less reliable, that's why you don't get 7 year warranty, would send BMW broke. Just look up the JD power stats. BMW are actually going broke. Their EV department is killing them financially.
Probably would not have made a big difference in sales but would have considered one if they also made a manual.
A manual would be cool in this car.
Got one it's a great car.
Great car
You’re testing a 4 yr old car with almost 60,000km. The car has been updated several times since then and is in a different league to the old banger you drove
And no doubt that's reflected in the price. Don't hurt Claudia's feelings - she loves her Stinger! And we love the old bangers. Some of the cars we review are new but the majority are not - some are 60 years old. There are plenty of sites reviewing new cars and some doing a great job of it. We like to focus on value for money in the second hand market.
There is hardly any difference.
To tell you the truth there isnt that much difference and in my opinion as an owner of a 2018 myself, this year was the best model with the least amount of issues.
Heya Stu, interesting car option given the deletion of Falcon/FPV and traditional commodore sedans in Oz... but not quite the family allrounder I guess, a little more compromised rear passenger area?
I'm fortunate enough to still have an FPV and also a 5 series for weekends... but I think the 1550kg claim for the 540i is a typo? I'd think 1750kg and 1850kg with x drive. My 5 series is 2 tonnes! 2016 M5
Would be pretty good as a family all-rounder, unless your kids or relos in the back are over about 187cm or 6'1" - 6'2". It was pretty good in the back. Mark found it more of an issue at the sides than above.
Regarding the BMW weight, I was surprised too at the diet they must have put the G30 series cars on after the F90. But your M5 is all-wheel-drive and the 540i M-sport is rear drive, so maybe that accounts for a lot of the difference I guess. It probably is over-optimistic though. Some publications quote 1551kg and some 1595kg. (probably a confusion between Tare and Kerb weights).
Thanks for the feedback though. Stu.
There are two reasons I didn't buy one back in 2019, one is that Kia didn't introduce the AWD version into NZ and the other is that gearbox would annoy me every time I drove it. What is the point of engineering a "drivers car" you cannot actually drive?
Hi there! Did you know that you can use an computer and make the gearbox much faster? Also you can take out 700 hp with not so many work!
